  • Switched from iPhone XS Max to This. Not Disappointed (Seriously).
Since I've only had the phone for about 3 days I'm going to start with a basic assessment and I'll try to remember to come back as time goes on to re-review, because I plan to use this phone for awhile. Because there are not many reviews out there online for the One Max yet, I'll add pictures, as well. Unboxing, Looks, Packaging: If you've never seen Umidigi's packaging for phones, just know it's fairly minimalist but also handsome and "mature." The box has a textured cover on it, all in matte black, and the whole thing looks great (but feels slightly less premium than, say, Apple's packaging). On the inside you're greeted with Umidigi's standard "thanks" card, which is actually very nice and explains something simple but accurate about what they do re: making affordable devices. It's nice! Under that is a nice matte black folio with the sim tray eject tool and product manual. Underneath is the wall charger and usb-c cable. All in all, simple, to the point, and well put together! Also, I took all the packing pictures with the One Max itself (in a pretty dimly lit room) so you can get a sense of its camera quality. I'll add a couple outdoor example shots, as well. The One Max as a Phone: Now, to the phone itself: I have owned (and currently own) many, many smartphones, and it's truly shocking what Umidigi is putting together for the price point. While it can't match up speed wise or camera wise with my iPhone Xs Max or my Galaxy S8, it combines many of their best qualities and adds a few tricks - all for 1/6 what I paid for the Xs Max. If you look at the pictures I submitted with this review, you'll see the device looks great in person. That massive front screen is truly a joy to look at (color reproduction is decent - no dead pixels or issues - strong backlight that is relatively visible in direct sun). The side-mounted fingerprint sensor is accurate and fast - nothing more to say here - it works perfectly for me. It's taken a couple days to get used to the right-side mounted volume keys, but they work great and it's no big deal. The "carbon" colored back panel is honestly great looking and a nice change from most other phones out there. Everything feels solid - no creaking or flexing and weight distribution is great. Keep in mind this is a pretty big device! It's only maybe 5-10% smaller than the iPhone Xs Max, which is massive. It's also noticeably heavier than a phone like the Galaxy S8, but it packs a fairly massive 4150mah battery compared to the 3000mah one in the S8. I actually like the weight and it adds to the device's premium feel (yes, I said "premium"). As mentioned, unlocking the phone is easy and fast with the side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It's much more convenient for right-handed people (which I am) - but lefties can still manage. Once unlocked, the device is a joy to use. The Helio P23 is a decent processor unit. Again, it will never match up with modern processing power put out by Apple or Qualcomm, but it's fast enough for multitasking and light gaming with almost no lag and energy efficient enough to easily last the whole day with such a big battery (some people can likely get 2 days out of this). 4GB of ram is the minimum needed for Android in my opinion, so luckily this thing is all set. And 128 GB of internal storage is awesome (you have the option to add a MicroSD but I will not be doing so as I'm actually using this as a proper dual sim device - more on that below). Connectivity: As you can see in a couple of the images I added, I am using this as a proper dual-sim device on both Xfinity Mobile (MVNO through Verizon) and AT&T. The phone immediately recognized both sims and worked perfectly, although I manually added a APN profile for Xfinity Mobile (the phone auto reads it as Verizon, which might have been fine but I figured I'd add the APN profile just in case). Everything works just fine, including VoLTE, texts, etc. WiFi has been solid and works pretty far from our router - very happy there. Bluetooth syncs quickly with my smartwatch but seemed to have some issues staying connected to my car's U-Connect system (although U-Connect is notoriously problematic so it might not be the phone). I had no issue adding my credit card to Android Pay on the One Max but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Finally - WIRELESS CHARGING! Hooray! Between the newer iPhones and Galaxy phones, this feels like a must-have feature to me and, incredibly, Umidigi has managed to squeeze fast wireless charging into the One Max! Even better - it charges at a good speed without getting too warm (something I can't say for the Galaxy S8). Conclusion (for now): All in all, I am EXTREMELY pleased with this phone. I pre-ordered it here but it's an even better deal now because there is a 5% coupon as of 1/21/19 (hey Umidigi - where's the discount for the early-adopters! ;) One final side note - the phone comes with a thin screen protector, pre-applied (very well, I might add) and a CLEAR TPU case. While the clear case is fine (especially if you want to see that pretty carbon backplate), I asked Umidigi which case it would come with before buying and they had responded that it would come with their matte black textured TPU case (which is nice and my preference). Umidigi - will there be a black textured case for the One Max like there is for the One Pro, etc? Feel free to send me one! :D TL;DR - this phone is absolutely fantastic, and would be so at $300. At $180 (or less with occasional discounts), I don't think you can beat it. Take it from someone who *actually* bought it (and isn't paid or compensated for reviews, good or bad) - this thing is awesome. ... show more

  • Beautiful phone.................serious problems.. But wait.. Update! Read below.
I had really high hopes for this phone.. I have an A3 UMIDIGI and although its not stellar, its never had any problems other than it being slow. The ONE MAX i received is a beautiful phone. its very snappy and can run a dozen or more apps at once with no problem.. The picture quality is awesome.. the feel is great.. the materials look and feel like a high end phone... All that combined make for an awesome value and a really nice experience.......Until.... It shuts down abruptly... restarts unexpectedly... vibrates constantly when texting then freezes, shuts down, starts, stops,, turns back off again...restarts... vibrates for 20 seconds until it restarts again.. Im seriously disappointed.. I researched this phone for a week before buying.. never read or watched any negative reviews.. so im pretty bummed. Im sending it back.. maybe getting another hoping this one just got a bad processor of rom or something.. For now Im going back to using my sluggish but solid A3. Ok. update. I received a replacement today. And Man.. what a great phone for the money! It's fast.. responsive.. has a beautiful screen quality. And takes great pictures. It feels like a high end Galaxy..! The finger print reader is fast too! So far I'm really loving it! Hopefully this will be the last time I update the review.. if I have any serious or even minor problems.. I'll update. Update. The phone started acting funny so I restarted it.. on bootup it went to a recovery boot menu where it stayed.. I couldn't do anything but restart using the power button. Just to return to the same boot up menu. Womp womp.. man I really liked the phone too. ... show more

  • A really great phone with decent specs at the price point
Color: Frost Grey Size: A11 Pro Max 4+128G
The media could not be loaded. Construction-wise, the phone feels solid. This means both well-made and kind of heavy. The sides remind me of an iPhone 5S except that this Umidigi's heft is due in large part to the huge battery contained inside. The phone comes with a USB-C charging cable, charging brick, plastic case, and pre-installed plastic screen protector, the standard accompaniments for Umidigi phones. The power button does not stick out like it does in some phones so there is little risk that you turn your phone or screen off or on when you adjust your grip or when the phone is in your pocket. The current Android 11 operating system takes up 14 of the 128 GB of ROM in the phone. After getting the phone set up and downloading the same 120 apps that I have on my 64 GB Umidigi F1 Play, I had 99 GB free, a lot of space so maybe I will not bother with an SD card, for now at least. 4 GB of RAM is definitely enough for me and the processor is decently fast with only a little stutter here and there when scrolling down web pages or switching between apps. I found the display is bright and easy to read at 40% or so in all but bright sunlight, when I needed to turn the brightness to the maximum to see what was on the screen. Battery life is incredible. I am not a heavy user. I typically make several calls and spend four or so hours browsing the web and watching YouTube videos on my phone. I got nearly 3 days of this usage from a full charge. The LTE signal on Mint Mobile was good, comparable to the reception on my iPhone. No 5G, but I knew that this phone was LTE so that is not a disappointment. Wifi seems reliable. Other reviews might be better regarding the camera since I tend to take only outdoor and food pictures. Outdoor daytime shots were nice, as expected. But just about any smartphone will deliver pretty good daytime shots. Inside and in dim light, the exposure gets cranked up quite a bit (see the cotton swabs and Halloween mug shots). Close up shots (like the battery and USB-C adapter) came out well but it took a few efforts at focusing before a picture could be taken. For my usage pattern, this phone works really well and I am really glad to have purchased it. My only regret is not getting the 8 GB RAM model since I might be able to use the extra RAM down the line. ... show more
