This was a gamble, given the incredible amount of negative reviews regarding strength, size, and quality control. I was fortunate enough to get one of the good batches, and while I haven't selected bags from the middle of the box, those on the top and bottom appear to be uniform. As far as thickness, they feel like they're right on the cusp of being strong - this is the minimum thickness I would purchase. I certainly ripped some bags after filling with wood and metal pieces, and when forcing in folded cardboard, but I don't get the impression that with medium use they would be too frustrating. I'm using them primarily to cover items in storage, and not as garbage bags, aside from my anecdote above. They come with wire twist ties, which I have not even deigned to use. The bags themselves have no tabs at the opening to assist in tying together, and I have just duct taped over folded ends. This makes them difficult to carry when they are full of misshapen contents. So, for garbage, probably not the ideal product on the market, unless you're literally tossing them into a giant dumpster and making it someone else's problem. For protecting goods from water damage in a stationary shipping container, it meets my needs well. ... show more

I have been ordering the Ultrasac 42 gallon 3mil bags for six years and they were a great product for a great price. With the past 2 boxes I've bought the bags are splitting at the seam with little to no stress on the seam. At first i thought it was because of the cold weather, storing them filled in the garage till garbage day but the last 2 bags that split were kept indoors. Today it split while I was putting the kitchen trash in, getting ready to take it out to the curb. I had to transfer it all to a new bag and double-bagged it to avoid another split. I've moved everything from bedding, trash, construction debris, and the contents of a few fridges/freezers in these things and they are just solid, I was particular when shopping around for a big pack of contractor bags to make note of the thickness and these are just as thick as some of the more conventional "name brand" contractor bags, it takes considerable effort to tear these. Conversely the thickness makes them hard to tie on themselves using just the mouth of the bag, you will need to either leave a considerable amount of headroom, use the included ties, or my preference; a bit of twine They are quite large and will fit most contractor trash bins from my experience. ... show more
