  • Works as intended at a great price
I bought this tool to enlarge tuning machine holes on a guitar based on a recommendation from a reviewer of a different product and it worked beautifully for me. Prior to this project, I had zero experience repairing guitars and this was great for a novice like myself. It's also great for reaming pickguard pot holes to accommodate CTS pots (if they didn't before). The only con I can think of is that while reaming the hole, sawdust kept getting packed in the grooves between the blades and I had to keep taking the tool out to clean out the sawdust before completing the enlargement of the hole. I'm going to assume this is common for this type of tool so not the biggest deal. Overall, can't say enough about how easy this was to use and that it served it's purpose beautifully. Also a great price compared to typical luthier supply prices. ... show more

  • convenient for 10mm tuners ... but dull
Mine arrived with dull areas along the taper and had to be sharpened with a stone to get anywhere. Additionally the pin that holds the handle in had been driven through hastily and splintered a portion of the handle. Functional, if you don't mind that and can sharpen it, but not high-quality by any means. Still, it's affordable, and might be better than far more expensive options if you only have a few holes to ream. ... show more

  • Unlike most inexpensive reamers, this will work for a guitar BUT doesn't quite get to 10MM
I do a lot of work on guitars and a professional post hole reamer costs 2X-4X more. I used this to slightly increase vintage Kluson-sized post holes. I measured the largest diameter as 9.90 MM. I suspect that is large enough to accept a 10MM tuner (they are slightly under-sized ) but did not confirm. This is not a finely machined tool and expect it will last like one. But it worked fine for me. This is not like the steeply angled 'plumbers' reamers you sometimes see marketed as acceptable for lutherie - they are not acceptable. This item, IMO, is acceptable but you'll get what you paid for. Which is OK ... show more

  • Perfect for a hobbyist, professionals should buy a professional reamer.
Several people in these reviews have complained that this reamer was not sharp, which made me reticent to purchase it. I went through with it anyway and found the one I received to be decently sharp. It was sharp enough to do the job, which was to ream the peg holes and tail gut button on the Zemo Violin Kit I received for the holidays. It was admittedly slow to cut, however I prefer that to a super sharp one that removes a lot of material with each turn. I was able to accurately fit the tuning pegs in my violin. The only real complaint I have is the handle was not very comfortable and I ended up with a blister where it rubbed against my thumb with each turn. If I ever have to fit another peg box, I will probably wrap the handle with tape to try to prevent this. ... show more

  • Fantastic tool.
Product is sharp and does what it is supposed to. Bought to ream peg holes on a guitar headstock(turns out I didn't need it for that), but also worked for the potentiometer holes that needed it for upgrading an Epiphone and Squier Bullet Strat. Excellent value.

  • Perfect for use to install Gotoh UPT tuners!
This was the perfect size reamer with taper (10mm) for installing the Gotoh UPT tuners on an ukulele. The reamer itself isn't terrible sharp but oscillating between both sides of the headstock did the trick. It took some elbow grease in less than an hour to make the perfect fit for the Gotoh UPT tuners. ... show more

  • Good handiman's tool
Adequate for occasional use. I will probably lose it before I use it again. It is not particularly sharp but that might be a good thing if you are not a skilled craftsman. If you are going into violin making, spend a few more bucks and get a professional reamer. Otherwise, just take your time and enjoy. ... show more

  • Nicely done!
Great price! I needed to enlarge the holes for replacement tuners and this did it perfectly without chipping any of the original paint on the guitar. Much better than a drill for this type of task
