    • Solid and Reliable – A Few Quirks, But Still Worth It

This is my second Ulanzi tripod phone holder, and for good reason—it's solid, made of metal, and does exactly what I need it to do. Because of my phone’s width, I had to open it all the way, and over time, it came apart several times in my camera bag. Eventually, I lost the springs that hold it in place. That said, I still used it for years before replacing it. Most phone clamps aren’t deep enough to accommodate an iPhone with a battery case, but this one has the perfect amount of space. A couple of small downsides: The pads on the top and bottom are great, but in hot conditions, the glue can start to slide. I’ve had to re-glue them a few times. I wish it had a built-in tilt adjustment, but I added another piece of equipment to handle that. The new version now has a 1/4-20 hole on the side, which would be great—except that it's useless with a phone in the holder. The cold shoe mount on top is a smart addition, but if you're mounting something like a Rode mic receiver, the screw that holds the phone gets in the way. I found a workaround, but it’s something to note. No vertical shooting option, which is a bit limiting. Despite these quirks, I bought it again, and I’d still recommend it. Although I already have several tripods, I needed something more compact to stabilize recording/photography with my phone. This is perfect! I’m mainly going to use it for light vlogging and selfies and it’s the perfect size. Easy to hold in the hands and not so bulky and noticeable Iike full sized tripods. Phones can be positioned in multiple ways.. more ways than I expected. It feels pretty durable while playing with the adjustments but I’m not so sure if it’d be suitable for larger projects. It is however perfect for things like recording a makeup tutorial on a vanity or taking selfies at lunch/dinner. And it’s small enough to fit in a pocket and/or small purse. This is probably going to be the most useful tool I will have when doing content on the go!! I love this thing! When folded up in camera grip form it fits in the palm of your hand. It’s incredibly compact but it also has a great feel to it with well placed pads to keep my phone from getting scratched if I use it without the case. The spring holder for the phone is strong and easy to use. This thing also has incredible versatility!! It works as a simple hand grip but also unfolds to give a bit of a gimbal feel. No stabilization of course but that handle grip is really perfect. It holds the phone both ways and can flip horizontal or vertical. Then it extends for a selfie stick!!! Now it’s not a very long selfie stick but it’s a sturdy one! I love that. It’s got great range on the tilt when extended too. Forwards and backwards tilt! And THEN it got the nerve to have a tripod stand!!! And it’s got the little removable Bluetooth camera shutter button that’s perfectly placed in grip mode! I absolutely cannot believe how useful and versatile this thing is. It’s worth double the price but don’t tell them that! 😂😂😂 ... show more

Light and portable. I love the many positions I can utilize. Best bang for your buck if you don’t want to buy a gimbal or tripod that’s bulky or takes up space. I do have to pay attention to what angles I use or my phone will topple over. But it works out pretty great.

I did some research to pick the right one because there are so many of them on amazon available. Now that I had it for 2 months, I felt I made the right choice... for my use case. This is used mainly for recording dancing classes in the basement. Ulanzi was perfect for this, it's opening has a good range to cover Google Pixel, iPhone Xs Max. The mount adapter is all metal (aluminum), light weight but very sturdy. I used to have a plastic one, which worked well on small phones but was too tight to hold larger phones like Xs Max and eventually broken. The mount adapter has 1/4 screw holes to allow portrait and landscape mounting positions. I did not have to switch between those two positions as I have a ballhead on my tripod, which is much easier to switch between portrait and landscape mode. I also like the fact that the holding of the phone is by the thumb screw, not by a spring - the spring design on other models (especially plastic ones ) are convenient but will have trouble with smaller or larger phones as inevitably it will be too loose for smaller ones and too tight for larger ones. Overall, I am very happy about this purchase. This should last many years. I will definitely buy again if another one is needed in the future. ... show more

This phone mount feels solid to me as it is a metal piece, not a plastic one. I like it even though it is not that easy to use. There is a screw/knob on the top to adjust the mount. It takes more than a few seconds to fix the phone on the mount, but it would very secured. I put it on a portable tripod and the phone is in horizontal/landscape position. Good for me to set up video conference on the phone as well as taking landscape orientation pictures. However, if I need to change the phone to vertical/portrait position, I need to unscrew the phone mount and change to the screw hole on the side (see picture). Found out this mount is not good for fixing the phone in vertical position on my tripod because the panning knob of my tripod is in the way of the phone. So, I think this phone mount is good for those who use the phone mostly in 1 orientation and have a tripod with a low profile panning knob. ... show more
