  • Works great, plug 'n play Ethernet!
My rule of thumb is that you should always wire your stationary devices to Ethernet, whenever possible. I've spent way too much time in my life troubleshooting issues that were the result of how limited WiFi can be. If you live in an apartment, townhouse, etc. then this adapter is probably for you. If you care about your TV streaming stick/box to "just work", then this adapter is probably for you. So far, I've now used this Ethernet adapter on my Roku Express 4K+ and now on my Walmart brand "onn. Google TV 4K Streaming Box" (2023). The latter proved to be tricky due to how sensitive the onn. box is with micro USB cables, OTG power cable splitters, and USB Ethernet adapters. While the onn. is a fantastic value, it will boot loop and/or crash (distorted screen and loud audio feedback) if you aren't careful with your cabling. I was almost ready to just return the onn. box back to Walmart until I decided to try out this adapter since it worked out so well on my Roku. The adapter did not disappoint again and played nicely with the onn. box and no extra setup was needed outside of plugging everything in. The unfortunate thing is cost, this adapter costs about $5 less than what I paid for the onn. box itself and you can only get 100Mbps maximum throughout (no fault of the manufacturer). That said, the reliability and consistency you get with Ethernet is worth it making this a great purchase. Also, the 100Mbps limit hasn't prevented me from watching any 4K (w/HDR) content either nor any other issues whatsoever. ... show more

  • Had to make a compact ethernet installation on our 18" kitchen TV
I ordered this --- Fire TV stick streaming media player, with Alexa Voice Remote (2nd Gen, released 2019) --- to add ethernet streaming to an old 19" LCD TV that has coax, component, composite, VGA and 2 HDMI inputs. This TV lives in the kitchen and is attached to via coax, and sits upon, an older cable TV box. Space is tight where the TV and cable box sit at the end of the counter. I wanted an installation as compact as possible, and, use ethernet. I didn't like the looks of the VERY short Amazon brand ethernet adapter for the Fire stick, and, since it has to be purchased separately anyway, I ordered this one at the same time, --- Price: $13.89 --- UGREEN Ethernet Adapter for Fire TV Stick (2nd GEN), All-New Fire TV (2017). It has a 3.3ft USB power cable & micro USB cable. I used the USB power supply that shipped with the Fire stick. I couldn`t have the Fire stick hanging out of one of the two HDMI ports on the TV, so I included one each of the following M x F ( 2 pcs ) extension/adapter cable sets, with my order ; * Price: $9.99 -- HDMI 2.0 Extension Cable, Cable Creation [2PCS] 1.5 Feet Upward Angle HDMI 2.0 Male to Female Cable + 1.5 Feet Downward Angle HDMI 2.0 Male to Female Cable, 4K Ultra HD, Black. ---- And ---- * Price: $9.99 -- HDMI 2.0 Extension Cable, Cable Creation [2PCS] 1.5 Feet Right Angle HDMI 2.0 Male to Female Cable + 1.5 Feet Left Angle HDMI 2.0 Male to Female Cable, 4K Ultra HD, Black. I figured one of these four ext./ adapter cables would give me the correct direction from the side or rear HDMI port to remote mount the Fire stick. The male end of the angled ext./ adapter cable is plugged into the side HDMI port, goes up the side and over the top. The 18" length was ideal for a Fire stick location on top of the TV, the Fire stick male end is plugged into the female end of the ext./ adapter cable. I attached the cables and the Fire stick to the top of the TV with some homemade twist ties, fished through the heat vent slots. I plugged the Cat5e cable into the modem and the other end into the Ugreen ethernet adapter, chose HDMI-2 on the TV input and plugged in the USB power supply. After the yellow and green lights came on at the Cat5e end of the ethernet adapter, the Fire stick powered up to the setup screen. The setup was straight forward and the Fire stick works very quickly, probably because of the ethernet connection. We have an early Fire TV box ( the flat one ), attached to our big TV via ethernet and it works quickly also. We subscribe to Amazon Prime and I enjoy listening to Amazon Music through a Creative sound card in the PC, then into a good mini amp, a pair of nice small speakers, along with a sub. This old kitchen TV has very poor speakers. t has a coaxial digital audio out connector that I hooked into a DAC then into an old pair of powered PC speakers, sound was much better, but I`d need to find a place in the kitchen for more equipment ! ... show more

  • Works Great With My 1st Generation Chromecast! Works on Chromecast Audio Too!
I got this to provide my 1st generation Chromecast with faster, more reliable ethernet access given that the Chromecast is installed just above my router. I wanted to power both this adapter and the Chromecast from the USB port on the TV. I was worried that the USB port might not deliver adequate power to run either or both devices. I used a USB power meter to see how much power I could pull from the TV's USB port while charging my phone and was able to see about 1.4 amps being delivered. I hoped that would be adequate and tried it all out. It works fine! Your mileage may vary. Easy to install and use. I know that some people complain that the cable length isn't enough but in my case it is too long, if anything and I have to coil up the extra cable to keep the rat's nest in my entertainment area orderly. Added -> I like the one I got for my video Chromecast so much, I got one for my audio Chromecast as well. ... show more

  • Surprisingly works well. Plug and play. Surprisingly works well. Plug and play.
Was very skeptical about buying this product because I have had bad luck with this specific brand before but to my surprise it works flawlessly. I was originally going to get an OTG usb-a to micro usb cable and a gig usb Ethernet adapter but I took a gamble on this instead. Yes it’s only 100mbps but I was barely getting 20mbps via WiFi and it would cut in and out. It’s all sturdy plastic and it’s a sufficient length for my use case. I also appreciate the link/status lights on it so you know you’re getting signal. Not all adapters have this. Now I have a permanent hardwired connection to my Firestick and no more connection issues. I don’t really need the gig adapter for just streaming as I don’t run a plex server or anything that would demand a higher bit rate so the 100mbps (actually caps out at about 90-95) is just fine and I don’t eat up unnecessary bandwidth needed for my laptop or PS5, both of which are hardwired via a gig switch. I did have a couple minutes when I first connected it that I didn’t think it was going to work at all but I just restarted the Firestick and bing bang boom it was recognized. I would recommend this if you don’t need the extra bandwidth (kodi, plex, bluray rips, etc) and even then you will be limited to 480mbps due to the usb2.0 transfer rate limitation on the Firesticks micro USB port. I always hardwire my devices when possible and I’m glad this worked out. ... show more

  • Connectors on device are not HDMI; USB only. Needs HDMI connector on Ugreen
Well, it works. There are no instructions, so let me provide some. I have a Fire TV, not the stick. I don't know the version but the Fire TV box says "4k ultra HD & HDR". The Ugreen is that shown on the first page of the advertisement and not the subsequent pages. The two cables emitted from the UGreen are installed on the unit and not removable and there are no other cables: you won't need other cables or adapters. The large USB is the power cable. Plug it in to the power source. The small USB connector plugs into the Fire TV. Plug in your Ethernet cable. Plug the Fire TV HDMI cable into your TV or your AV receiver. It works! I verified that I was not connected to the Fire TV wirelessly by going to my router and it showed a Ethernet connection and not a wireless connection. The TV started up instantly, no advertising, no issues. It was so quick to come on, I suspected it was wireless, but it was not. So, I unplugged the Ethernet cable at my router. The TV still showed a picture. I looked at the Router and it now showed it was connected wirelessly. Hmmm. So, I blocked the wireless signal from the Router and the TV signal shut off. I plugged the ethernet cable into the router, with wireless blocked and the TV came back on. Obviously, the Fire TV switches to wireless automatically if you unplug the ethernet cable. I unblocked the wireless signal from the router, just because. Pretty cool. ... show more

  • Power works, ethernet does not, broken device maybe?
I can only assume mine arrive broken as the ethernet does not work at all, when the cable is connected the transfer lights on the switch or the adapter do not indicate any activity, cable is good as it works with another device with no issue. It does provide power so it has to be just the RJ-45 port or the connection to the board that is failing, will need to get another device to fully test but for now I'll give it 3/5 stars ... show more

  • Works like a charm with Chromecast, no extra setup needed.
I bought two of these, one to use with a Chromecast Audio, another with a Chromecast video (Gen 3, I think). In both cases this gizmo worked flawlessly: all I did was plug the USB-A end into a charger, an ethernet cable (from a switch) into that port, and finally the micro-usb end into the Chromecast. In both cases the connection just took a few seconds (the Chromcast light went white), and the Chromecast worked as it had been working before on wifi, but with a wired connection. (I verified on my wifi controller and my router that the connection was now wired.) The price was just a tad higher than for some competing products, but I've bought Ugreen devices before, and they've been reliable. So I paid slightly more for peace of mind, and I'm quite happy with the product and the decision. If you're looking to connect your Chromecast to your wired network, I can recommend this product without hesitation. Update March 2025: Still the best such product available IMO; I needed another one, it worked perfectly with no fuss. ... show more
