I’ve been using this diaper pail for over 6 months and at first was using regular 13 gal kitchen trash bags. We empty it every trash day, which is 2x/week and there was always so much room left in there but since it was stinky when we opened to put another diaper in, we preferred to empty. After a while I eventually decided to experiment with smaller bags and the 8 gal bags work just fine. The picture is an 8 gal bag that is being emptied for trash day, still room leftover! If I were to use one bag for a full week I would try a 10 gal, the 13 is just too big. Great product overall, no smell leakage except when my husband forgets to close the lid! Much better than diaper genie, which I’ve used for years for my dogs’ potty pads. ... show more

Love this trash can! You can use just regular trash bags which is a huge money saver so you don’t have to buy special trash bags! It is really odor containing, I can’t smell anything coming out if it! A good feature I like is that you can lock the lid so that it won’t open if your children or pets like to get into trash cans. We used a diaper genie for my first, in 4 years, we had to replace it 3 times, and that's even with decreased use once he was potty trained. Pull ups at nap and night, so twice a day, and the lid broke. This is sturdy, I do miss the foot pedal, but the slide is easy to use. It can get stinky, but the metal doesn't hold odor, let it air out for a while and it's fine. I keep a charcoal pack on a command strip beside it, but you could just as easily throw one in under the bag. The lock keeps my older son out, he's curious about everything. Best part is it uses any bag and the bag is easy to lock in and remove. On the downside, the top slides open only when using both hands. One to stabilize the can and one to slide open the top. Worked ok for about a year or so. Keeps the smell from the rest of the room, just hits you in the face with a horrific stink bomb every time you open it to add a diaper or change the bag. There is no good way to clean out the bin/reduce the smell. Love the metal design however it rusts. When you leave dirty diapers/human waste in a tight warm space it creates moisture which will rust parts of the can even if you clean it regularly and dry it out. After about a year and a half the smell isn't as contained in the pail as it used to be. Our nursery smells even with only 1 or 2 poop diapers in it. Overall disappointed. Friends have much better diaper bins from other brands that we will be looking to purchase for the next baby. ... show more
