I. Love. This. I had a Turtle Beach headset for my PS3 but when I upgraded to a PS4 I could no longer use them. Since Turtle Beach have a tendency to be rather pricey I started purchasing off brand headsets to just get by. Overall I purchased 4 headsets that were between $20-$30 and they all had their flaws that were not acceptable. I additionally have a rather small head and it is very difficult to find a headset that doesn't actually cover my jaw when on the smallest size. I waited for a long time to finally take the plunge and get another Turtle Beach headset. I came across the Recon 200 because it was "on sale." Still rather pricey, but honestly very much worth it. This headset can easily be used for the XBox One or the PS4(Pro). There is a switch on the side of the headset that can be flipped up for PS4 option, middle for off, and down for XBox One option. The headset does need to charge, but I haven't experienced a moment where it ran out of juice while I was playing. I typically play 4-5 hours at a time (I have a hard time stopping once I start, RDRII though amirite?) and usually just charge my headset after a couple times playing. I just put my PS4 into sleep mode to charge my headset if I am not watching something and it charges just fine. It is crucial to remember to switch the headset OFF when not in use otherwise the battery will continue to drain. Pros: - It fits my small head (I do not know the max size so I cannot speak on that) - The sound quality is outstanding There are many games that I haven't gotten the full sound effects developers have put into the game because TVs and some headsets just don't pick up or full express the sounds. Mosquitoes, bird calls, shouts in a distance, footsteps; this headset picks them all up. - Comfortable Like I said earlier, I play usually 4-5 hours and do not get tired of wearing them. - Good quality Mic I especially like the flip up to mute option - One of the more light weight headsets Cons: - The Mic, while good, picks up pretty much everything; from distance background sounds to my cat purring while in my lap. - Not noise canceling or blocking or isolation, or anything like that. The only blocking it is has simply that there is something covering the ears themselves. Additionally, the mic plays back through the headset. This means any background noise the mic picks up is played right into the headset. DISCLOSURE: I haven't messed with the system settings so this could might be able to be fixed by some adjustments. - Price Honestly, it's isn't that bad of a price for someone really into getting the full experience of a game. It's completely worth the money.

Since there are already hundreds of reviews covering this headset here already, I'll just skip over to my personal favorite feature: mic monitoring / sidetone! I'm coming from an old PX21 headset from over a decade ago. It's held up well for 10+ years, but it was time to move on to a newer (and comfier) headset. So, here I am with the Recon 200. I am glad to see that Turtle Beach has maintained their signature mic monitoring feature with the new Recon 200 headset. The monitoring volume is adjustable, clear, and can go loud enough to really keep your own voice level in check while playing even the loudest of games. My only complaint (compared to the PX21) is that the mic appears to be far more sensitive and has a tendency to pick up noises away from your mouth. The old PX21's mic was designed to sit closer to your mouth and did not pick up much (if any) noise that was more than a couple inches away from the actual microphone itself. Not a biggest fan of this change with the new, shorter microphone design. Anyhow, since there aren't many options for gaming headsets with good mic monitoring / sidetone for console players, this is likely the best one you can get for <$50 USD. I'm highly satisfied and would recommend it to anyone looking for a headset in this price range. (If you want in-depth info about the audio quality of the Recon 200, I'd suggest reading the SoundGuys review. They did a superb job. In short, this headset has a fairly neutral audio profile, which is common among Turtle Beach headsets. The mic is clear and easily audible to others, but does filter out much of the bass in your voice.) (Yes, mic monitoring / sidetone can be completely turned off if you don't like this feature. There is an adjustable dial controlling the volume for this specifically (separate from game volume) on the left ear cup.) (No, there is no delay or lag with mic monitoring / sidetone whatsoever, just like with my old PX21. That's why I like this headset. I use it with my PS4, and plan to use it with the PS5 eventually.)

Update 9/29/2020 **Headset still sounds decent but the microphone has completely stopped working which makes the headset useless for any kind of game or app requiring communication. This actually occurred months ago and I’m only now bothered to update the review (probably happened around the holidays 2019). I’m guessing my nephew broke it after a fort nite battle went south but I’ll never know for sure as there’s no visible damage to the headset anywhere and I never saw him do anything that might have damaged it. I like the headset, but the feature that mentions bass boost feels misleading to me as in earlier Turtle Beaches I've had with the same listed feature, one could adjust the amount of bass boost. This headset does not variable bass boost, it's just boosted sound in general (though it does sound good). I find the mic monitoring to be mixed quality. While it's a nice feature, it's hard to find a good balance with it because you either get not benefit from it (you cannot hear yourself talk) or you get waaay too much of it (your mic picks up every little sound in the room.. button presses... creaky chairs.. background conversation, etc). The headset would have greatly benefited from a battery saving feature that automatically turns the headset off after receiving no input for several minutes. I've found myself with a dead battery plenty of times because I've forgotten to turn it off after I finished playing. **I'll update this as I continue to use this headset. So far, it's a good buy for the price.

Alright, so I have seen good and bad things about this headset. I bought them to use on my ps4. Lots of positive things to say about them. The sound quality is pretty outstanding. Lots of bass and very clear loud audio. The mic works very well, and there are little scroll buttons on the headset to adjust volumes of mic and sound. The mic is not adjustable type though like others, it's stiff so you just flip up to mute and flip it down to talk. It fits nicely, the ear pieces are comfy and I almost can't hear anything else when I put them on. Now, there are some negatives. You do have to charge them when not using them. This can be a problem if you forget to charge them after you play, but I always remember so its no big deal for me. Also, they are not wireless so you plug them into your controller. Some people like wireless, again not a problem for me. Another thing, I got them on PS4 but I think I read if you get them on xbox, you have to buy a separate adapter for your controller. For PS4 you do not need one you just plug it right into controller. Overall, it is a great choice for a decent cheaper price.

I bought this headset as a gift to my husband. His last pair of Turtle Beach headsets that he had for years finally gave out and he was using a cheap, off-brand headset because our local stores didn't have any Turtle Beach in stock. I can't say too much as far as use but I know that my husband has been completely satisfied with them, and recommends them to everyone he comes across that's looking for gaming headsets (which is more than I could've ever imagined). I like that they are very lightweight, which I imagine that would be important if you're wearing them for hours on end. The surround sound in the ear pieces is great and I've joked about stealing them so I could watch them while watching my movies. The swivel motion on their ear piece is cool. I absolutely love the fact that muting is as easy as flipping up your mic. Overall, this is a great product. I see why my husband loves the Turtle Beach brand so much. Highly recommended, definitely worth the money!

turtle beach makes good headphones but this, this just makes me ask why.... context: I broke a pair of Turtle Beach Recon 70's and needed some new headphones, naturally, I saw these and thought wow it's $30+/- more so it much be so much better. I ordered them and it did not take to much time to get here but when they did I regretted my purchase instantly ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *PROS* (compared to the cheaper Turtle Beach Recon 70's): - nice color scheme - plastic feels nicer and sturdier/better quality - better mic - noise cancelation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *CONS* (compared to the cheaper Turtle Beach Recon 70's): - it does not have surround sound despite it being advertised... I tested both headphone's surround sound capabilities in multiple titles including Apex legends, GTA 5 and dirt 5. --> while the Turtle Beach Recon 70's did have crisp and defined surround sound for both ear cups --> the Recon 200's only had sound in the left ear cup and nothing in the other compete let down - when plugged into PC (custom built), ps4 (slim), and Xbox one (s) [tested on all multiple times] when the game is silent you can hear a static/white noises coming from the headphones that really starts to bug you especially if you have good enough hearing to pick it up in-game which is not the case with the cheaper Turtle Beach Recon 70's - the material of the ear and top cushioning gets greasy very easily and is very uncomfortable compared to the CHEAPER Turtle Beach Recon 70's another big issue with the cushioning is on the top a wire runs through the top cushioning part and you can feel right on your head which is very uncomfortable which is not a problem in you guessed it the cheaper Turtle Beach Recon 70's - another huge problem with the Recon 200's ear cups for me personally is for example in the Turtle Beach Recon 70's the ear cups are built way bigger to accommodate bigger ears because it is an around-ear headphone and they feel roomy and let me emphasize this very breathable. which is the complete opposite of the Recon 200's which despite also being around-ear headphones are extremely cramped and sweaty around the ears, at one point one of my ears was folded at the top when trying to fit inside during a long game sesh. honestly, I could go on and on with problems which really disappoints me because I truly do like turtle beach and have been using them for many years but I must put this out there! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- at this point... **Just get the Turtle Beach Recon 70's** it's not only cheaper but better in every way and will last you years with fun gaming moments in hand if you made it this far thanks for reading and I really hope this helped you! -romu PS: I got like 2 pairs of Turtle Beach Recon 70's after returning the Recon 200's lmao

Update Christmas 2020 - I ordered 2 sets of steel series 9x. After about a year of use I've really grown to dislike these and finally decided to buy a better set. I even got my gf a set to match. The slide wheels for both volume and mic monitoring give static and cutting out at the slightest bit of movement and need to be played with in order to get correct audio output on both channels, much like the cheapest of cheap stereos and CD players from the 90s would do. Other players in the x-box party can hear the plasticky creaking in the hinges of the ear cups when I move, grab a drink, etc. "Oh, Tarz is getting restless again!" Annoying... These headphones seem to cause an issue with X-box party chat where the "on-screen" indicators that show who is talking will randomly always show my name as speaking, even when muted. This issue comes and goes at times, and apparently, while happening, other party members have reported hearing a slight echo, also still when muted, until the headset is unplugged and reconnected to the controller. I've used other headsets with the same controller without having this issue. My biggest gripe with this headset is the simple fact that I can't even count how many times I've forgotten and left them turned on after a game session and the battery dies in a couple hours. Extremely frustrating when you get an invite to the party later or the next day and you throw the 'phones on only to realize you now need to either charge them while playing (making not one but two cords if you can manage a charge cable, which is my driving factor for going wireless) or charge them for at least an hour to get enough battery life to last a decent session, and while you're deciding what to do or fiddling with your cables and getting situated your party members are wondering why you're so silent. I honestly am saddened by the fact that I've tormented myself using such an inferior product for so long, but.. A budget is a budget, and while mine has grown over the past year, I will not be helping Turtle Beach's, likely ever again. Oh one last note, I have seen up to the advertised 12 hours (although non-consecutive) battery life on some of the charges I didn't forget to turn them off. Original review - These headphones have great clarity of sound, and if clarity is your top priority these are a good option to consider. Voices, footsteps, distant gunfire/explosions, and especially ambient noise can not only be heard but pinpointed easily. Your game will improve over typical 5.1 surround sound setups. You just don't hear things the same without headphones. That's about the only pro I've been able to find really. Except the flip to mute Mic option, that's pretty cool until it stops working. (Edit) Not that cool as the boom is pivot only not adjustable in any other way. I'm naturally soft spoken and literally had to teach myself to talk louder because party members kept saying "you sound so far away/quiet/I can't hear you/you're cutting out"... So I guess I have Turtle Beach to thank for that. For an "amplified" headset they have a disappointingly weak overall performance and seriously lack that boom in the bass department. I use mine with the new style Xbox controller with the 3.5mm jack built in. Sound seems louder when the switch is on PS4 but sound is clearer on Xbox which is odd, and the switch is sometimes difficult to not only get back into the center "off" position but also to remember to turn off after I'm done playing. It's also, for me, difficult to differentiate between the two volume wheels when the headphones are on my head without putting a finger on each wheel. They claim up to 12 hours charge on the battery and I've seen an average of about 8 hours with zero microphone use, and then about a 2 hour wait before the charge light indicates a full charge. They arrived with no charge and took about 3.5 hours to fully charge the "first" time. Comfort must have gotten thrown out the window in engineering. Initially they feel great, but 45-60 minutes later the average adult head will start to really feel fatigued by the pressure the cushion puts on the very top of the head and the squeeze the band puts on the sides of the head via the ear cups. Really makes me feel like they are only meant to feel great for the first few moments you try them in the store before you buy them kind of thing. Prescription glasses wearers beware, these will irritate you immensely, refer to band tension comment above. You've been warned. I have a pair of generic brand of on-ear Bluetooth headphones that outperform these by far in terms of both volume and deep boomy bass when wired to a controller, and when wired they do not require a charge therefore they do not get any amplification, and the kicker there is that you can't forget to turn them off! A mini-nuke going off in the distance tickles a bit with my other set, the turtle beach's just.. sound. I can hear clearly, but I'm just not.. Immersed. Ya feel me? Would I buy another set if these got broken or lost? Absolutely not. I'll pony up a few more dollars for something better, probably from a different brand. Turtle Beach just didn't deliver with these headphones.

I’m a little confused why the average rating for these are low, they are the best gaming headphones I’ve found under $100, hands down. After trying near a dozen on amazon, and having near a dozen break quickly and have shallow sound, these are a miracle. Incredibly comfortable, streamlined design looks sharp when you wear it, sounds is superb, and they do a decent job at keeping the sound within the headphone and your ears if being quiet at night next to your partner is a concern. This (the white pair) was my second pair purchase, I accidentally stepped on my first pair (black) and broke one headphone off, but it was purely my fault for leaving them on the floor under clothes. I felt lost going back to my backup pair.
