  • Makes the Mint mattress MUCH softer
Size: Queen
I purchased the Tuft and Needle Mint mattress directly from the company. It is supposed to be their step-up, more medium mattress. It was hard. There's no two ways about it - so firm, I couldn't lie on my back (I cannot lie on a floor without lifting my knees due to lower back problems). Side sleeping was working, but I'm an all around sleeper, so it wasn't cutting it. So, I read reviews and decided to throw more money towards Tuft and Needle and buy the topper. The topper made a LOT of difference. I can lie on my back, side or stomach comfortably with the same support underneath the topper. It seems to cradle my body more, fill in the gaps, and add that "pillowtop" effect to the mattress. Both the mattress and the topper are well made. The topper has a very nice cover - which most toppers don't have. There are little silicone nubs on the bottom of it - but they aren't all that sticky. Don't expect to use this without putting a bed pad on top to keep it all from sliding around. I'd recommend strips of silicone that are 1" wide instead - if the manufacturer is listening. I always use a bed pad over a mattress and before the sheets, so it wasn't a problem for me - but it really isn't an "option" for this topper. You'll lose it - and it'll slide off. It's very lightweight, actually. I bought a cooling bedpad from overstock (my go-to place for nice bedding for a good deal and thorough reviews) since I felt like the mattress was a little warm. I figured the topper might be just as warm. So far, so good with the set and my Spa Luxe bedpad. My only complaint is that when I bought the mattress through T&N, it came within 3-4 days. I bought the topper through Amazon, because I wanted to use my Amazon card and get 5% back. It took 10, yes 10, days to get to me. It was being shipped from T&N, so no idea if the holdup was because I bought it through Amazon or if that's just how slow they are to send their toppers... but I was suffering on a hard mattress and 10 days was too long. Overall, I know without the topper, the mattress would be returned. I've slept with the topper for 3 nights and I'm seeing an improvement. I'll update the review if needed, but it has made the difference between returning the mattress now and seeing the 100 night trial to the end. If you have a firm mattress, I would recommend this! ... show more

  • Best for Softening a Firm Mattress
Size: Queen
Bought this topper based on a single review here. Have used this topper for over a month now. Purchased it to top a medium firm NEW Beautyrest mattress that hadn't softened up in the years since purchase. Upon opening it does have a smell but that went away after a few days. I was skeptical it would do the trick. For reference, I am 5'9", 130lb, side sleeper. I had tried a cheaper memory foam topper from Home Depot before buying this but I just sank into it and had trouble rolling from side to side. That "stuck in the mud" feeling. That type of topper is good for old mattresses that have zero support. This topper fit the queen dimensions of my bed. It fits under the mattress pad and a deep pocket fitted sheet. This topper is perfection! Haven't slept like this in years. No longer feel like my shoulders are sore from side sleeping. Easy to maneuver on, no sinking. This topper is definitely the best thing out there for making a firm new mattress tolerable. I do not feel hot sleeping on it. 100% recommend! ... show more

  • Good Topper. Mattress Protector Necessary to Reduce Frustration
Size: King
I would say that a mattress protector is necessary for this topper. It slides quite a bit on my T&N standard model King size mattress. The tendency to slip may be from lack of surface area of non-slip nibs or from the topper case enclosing the memory foam will actually shift around. After purchasing a T&N mattress protector, the topper feels and looks more like a part of the mattress. It also provides a slip barrier between the top sheet and topper do reduce slipping for people that crocodile roll in their sleep like me. The product made an immediate difference in my quality of sleep. I would recommend purchasing for anyone that has an existing mattress and is even partially a side or stomach sleeper. The core foam and case are high quality construction and very low/no odor. However, due to the cost of the topper and the protector to make this serviceable, I would not purchase this with a new T&N standard model and would purchase the model with the 2" memory foam fully integrated. ... show more

  • Absolutely worth it!!
Size: King
Had a friend rave about Tuft & Needle brand and recommend this topper. So I helped my Grandma order a new topper and she absolutely loves it. She has pain relief with less pain in her hips & back, says it’s super comfy & it helps keep her body temperature regulated! She’s 84 & for her to sleep more comfortable to where she gets more sleep is the best thing for her body and mind! Super easy to open and let rise and there was no bad smell at all when opening the box or plastic! Grateful for this company and I wish I would have ordered one myself! ... show more

  • Has helped with joint pain, no lingering odors.
Size: Twin XL
I bought this because I started finding my very firm Beautyrest mattress that worked well for me when I bought it a couple years ago much too firm because I have had an increase in joint pain with age. My spouse still likes the mattress as it is so I bought a twin xl topper just for my side of the bed. I was skeptical about spending this much, but I really wanted it to have a cover and was concerned about strong odors from off gassing. This topper did have some odor when I initially unpackaged it, but I left it in a less-used room in our home for a few days and the odor pretty much disappeared and has not been an issue. The cover is ok, but the non-slip bottom is just a synthetic no woven material which would definitely be damaged if it were put through a washing machine. The listing and packaging do say to only spot clean as needed, though, so I wasn’t terribly disappointed by that. It might be ok to dunk the cover in a bathtub full of oxyclean if spot cleaning just wasn’t enough, but I am hoping that won’t be an issue for me. I do take some issue with the nonslip claim, as the first week it was in use it migrated about a foot down the bed. My initial fix for this was to put a piece of that grippy carpet pad material underneath it at the head of the bed and this did resolve the issue. Because this topper is so thick I was not experiencing the full benefits of the chillpad we have in our bed, and it even felt just a little too soft, so I ended up putting it under my side of the chillpad. This has worked quite well for me in terms of adjusting the firmness just enough and still getting the benefits from the chillpad. It also keeps it in place better. An extra deep fitted sheet fits over it just fine even with the additional bulk from the chillpad. It might be more of a stretch if the topper were on both sides, though. I have been falling asleep much more easily without so much pressure on my joints. The elderly cats gravitate to lounging on my side of the bed now as well. Eventually I will throw the box into the recycling, but for now the cats are enjoying that, too. ... show more

  • Perfect thickness and cushion for picky sleepers: thin/thick couple
Size: King
I am a well-cushioned 190 lbs at 5'4" and my partner is a skinny 150 lbs at 6'2". We are both side sleepers, but being very different body types, it's been hard to find a mattress that makes us both comfortable at night. When we were replacing our mattress, my partner (naturally) wanted a very plush mattress, but a plush hurts my back since my heavier weight causes me to sink too deeply into the mattress and puts me out of alignment. My partner also has scoliosis, so I felt that a mattress that was too soft would not be helpful for him from an orthopedic standpoint over the long-term, regardless of how comfortable a plush initially seemed for him. We finally agreed to let me buy an extra firm mattress to get the support that I thought we both needed, but then I also agreed to get a suitable mattress topper to help my partner get relief, as he would experience pressure points in his shoulders and hips from such a firm sleeping surface. I figured it was better to get a replaceable plush-style mattress topper than to get an actual plush-top mattress, have that start to sag in a few years, and then be forced to replace the entire mattress again. I read and watched tons of mattress topper review articles and videos, and discovered that a) the same few mostly-online-only brands basically dominate the reviews, which makes it seem like they're the only game in town, and b) it's actually important to make sure you're getting a mattress topper that suits the issue you're trying to solve: many people seem to want a topper that is firmer to help even out an aged, sagging mattress, whereas a fewer number of people, such as myself, need to soften/cushion a brand-new, very firm mattress. I initially wanted to avoid memory foam due to the off-gassing and apparent relatively short lifespan, so first, I chose a lovely Pacific Coast Feather baffle box featherbed with a cover ($$), but my partner didn't think that was enough pressure relief, and I agreed--it was so heavenly puffy to touch, but once I laid my heavy weight on the featherbed, I sank right down to the mattress. It was almost like laying on top of a down comforter, which we did already have and had tried already as a stopgap measure once the new mattress had arrived, but we both had found the loft to be insufficient to sleep on top of. So we returned that and tried a Sleep On Latex 2" natural latex topper in their softest model with a cover ($$$), which I absolutely loved and thought was amazing quality, but my partner unfortunately still thought that it wasn't insulating him enough from the mattress and he was still experiencing pressure points. (I still would highly recommend the SOL topper for anyone who is a bit heavier who wants to be well-supported by a topper. Their return policy is extremely generous and they even send you a new, larger box to return the topper since it's impossible to get the topper back into the original box). So then I read tons more reviews, and had basically resigned myself to trying a memory foam topper, when I actually saw a review on Amazon for this Tuft & Needle mattress topper where a couple seemed to have a situation similar to ours and had even tried similar other toppers (featherbed, then natural latex) as we did before settling on, and loving, the Tuft & Needle. Indeed, this thing is AWESOME. Even I have to admit that for our needs, it is superior to the latex--it is the perfect combination of plush and supportive. Our mattress is EXTREMELY firm, but this basically makes the sleeping surface feel resilient and spongy. I can flop down onto the bed from any angle (back, stomach, side) and it is so soft, but it somehow still feels springy and still transfers the supportiveness of the firm mattress underneath. My back is definitely in perfect alignment whether i sleep on my side or lay on back. My partner adored this topper from the minute we got it--he just curled up into a cozy ball and all pressure points were gone--it's that soft. Further, the topper is light, doesn't smell, comes with a cover (which i prefer so the foam doesn't crumble or break off all over the bed), is easy to reposition, and is honestly very reasonably priced so if this should start to sag in a couple years, I won't be too fussed about ordering another one. We've had this now for nearly three months and it still feels amazing to both of us. I see how this would definitely not be the right topper for someone who was looking to firm up a sagging mattress, but for us, it is perfect. Gotta hand it to this brand: well done. • My first mattress topper
Size: King
Wonderful pick me up for a mattress that is causing me hip pain. This will extend the life of my mattress. I bought the medium firmness and it has enough give to sink down a little bit but still be supportive. Very comfortable temperature wise. Very little smell. Good price for a king size.

  • Sleeps hot, horrible for lower back
Size: Queen
I purchased the mattress topper in hopes of providing some additional comfort for my shoulders & neck. I own a Nectar mattress which is great for back sleeping but can be too firm for my shoulders & neck when sleeping on my side. The Tuft and Needle mattress pad had fantastic reviews - all of which I found to be untrue. 1) The mattress pad sleeps SO HOT! I slept on top of my quilt with 2 layers of sheets and blankets between me and the pad & woke up in a sweat during the middle of winter with subzero temperatures outside. 2) There's no "sleeping on top" feel with this mattress pad. You sink in quick! I felt like a hotdog laying in a bun....with absolutely no support on my lower back and hips. 3) I woke up after 4 hours of sleeping with the most horrific lower back pain of my life because of how unsupportive the foam was. However, I will say it provided some nice cushioning for my neck and shoulders - those did not hurt this morning. 4) The one gripe everyone had in reviews was "the pad moved around while sleeping" I found to be untrue because I used a tight-fitting mattress cover, plus a fitted sheet. 5) It does have a strong small. I aired out the mattress pad for 48 hours and still could smell it while trying to sleep. I really don't know who would enjoy this mattress pad. it's way over-priced and just plain horrible. Idk, maybe they shipped me a reject or returned pad.... ... show more
