  • Better Than Earbuds Costing 3X $$$ - Very Good Audio Quality - Not A 5-star Product, Though
==UPDATE== I have now purchased two other earbuds costing $160 & $230: Jabra 75t & Sony WF-1000XM3. These Taotronics earbuds are superior to the Jabras in virtually EVERY way. They are also better than the Sony. [More detailed comparison (& original review) follows:] Taotronic's Liberty 94 (TL94) earbuds sound MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than the Jabras. I can't emphasize this enough. The Jabra earbuds, while small, are still larger than the TL94. The Jabras look cool, and have some customization features for the earbuds controls, & they also fit a tiny bit better, but not $160 better. According to a person I called the Jabra microphone sounds better than the TL94's mic. Compared to the Jabra earbuds, the TL94s sound better, are smaller, have a smaller case. Except for Jabra's capability to modify the earbuds controls, the TL94's have the same feature set: TWS Bluetooth 5, ANC, PNC, and the ability to hear ambient sounds, using the earbud's microphone to by-pass the passive noise cancelling (PNC). ANC can be turned on or off, with or without the ambient sound feature. Essentially, the TL94 sound a lot better, have the same feature set as the Jabra earbuds for less than 1/3 the price. The Sony earbuds are much larger than both the Jabra & Toatronics. I guess they feel that for $230 you should get something substantial, i.e. big. The Sony charging case is also MUCH larger. The Sony earbuds also have an impressive customization capability and they do sound better. Not a lot better, maybe 20-25% better. The Sony earbuds are the best sounding earbuds I've ever used. I will not be keeping either the Jabra or Sony earbuds. The Jabra ones because of the crap sound & high price. The Sony earbuds because they kept falling out of my ears. The large size of the Sony earbuds doesn't bother me, they aren't heavy & don't look weird, but they just wouldn't stay put. Add in the nearly 5X cost, & I've got what I affectionately call a "non-keeper." ==Original Review Below== I've tried many totally wireless bluetooth earbuds. Where these earbuds really shine is the audio sound quality. They sound as good., better than bluetooth earbuds costing 2X or 3X more. I know because I've owned those more expensive earbuds. The audio is well-balanced throughout the audio frequency range. Highs are clear & clean. Lows are substantial, but not overly boomy. The whole sound is clean, without distortion, and has plenty of definition. The earbuds are also louder at the same volume level setting as the J-Labs earbuds they replace. Battery life is quite good, especially considering their small size, which is half the size of the J-Lab earbuds. They start up quickly when removed from their charging case and pair to my phone quickly & easily. They have passive & active noise cancelling. Both work well, but aren't perfect. Some external noise gets through, but it is dramatically diminished in volume. So they're small, have ANC, great sound, good battery life, why not 5 stars? Two important things. Firstly, they aren't the most comfortable earbuds around. They aren't prone to falling out, but after an hour or so of wearing them they hurt my ears. Maybe that'll change with time, but for now the pain is there. Secondly, the operating controls are counter-intuitive to the point of being just plain stupid. Oh, sure, you can change volume, advance tracks, pause & play, but what number of button-presses on which earbud isn't readily discernible. Why go to all the trouble of making a fine earbud, only to fail completely at the user interface? It's because the engineers don't understand ergonomics. Just as the earbuds hurt, their interface isn't right. Sure, on paper the engineering is great. In practice it falls one-star short of being a 5-star product. For reference, the other earbuds I'm comparing them to are JBL ($99), Jabra 65t ($169), Airpods ($139), J-Lab ($49), Plantronics ($79), and a slew of non-name brand TW earbuds costing from $19 to $79. ===UPDATE=== I added the $160 Jabra 75t & $230 Sony 1000MX3 to the list of compared earbuds. ... show more

  • Everyday use full review - may have to send them back
I wanted to review this product based on my everyday use of it, and talk about every aspect of the earbuds. Each area deserves a rating. My rating really is closer to a 3.5. 1. Sound Quality - 5 - Very good sound both in the treble and bass ranges. Coupled with the Noise cancellation, they are even better than my Bose earbuds. 2. Noise Cancellation - 5 - Again, some of the best. This bore out in a "test", which consisted of me turning on the NC while I was cutting the grass on my riding lawn mower. I could actually hear the music quite well, in both the bass and treble ranges. I also didn't have to turn up the volume 'all the way', and actually turned it a notch down at one point. Comfort - 2 - Even with the smallest ear buds, the very width of the earbuds are starting to hurt my ear. I may actually have to send them back because of this, which is a shame really. Signal Drop - 4 - I'm experiencing a "blip" signal lose around 15-20% of the time. This isn't really that bad, and it is when I'm literally sitting right next to the phone. Touch or Tap Controls - 2 - Actually, might even be a 1.5. The tap control just don't work well - AT ALL. I've tried longer taps. Shorter Taps. quick and light. Slow and easy. None of these get it right no more than 30-40% of the time. I'll tap three times to switch tracks, and the volume will go up (or down depending on which ear I've tapped). I'll tap to pause and get either volume or switch tracks. Many times, I tap to change volume and get nothing. Ambient mode and NC are pretty hard to control period as the taps just aren't recognized. This so far has been the most frustrating part of owning these. Instant Connection - 4 - Works like a charm, every single time. Both buds connect, and they connect to my phone without fail. There is one flaw. Several times, when I put the buds back in their recharging case, they didn't connect from my phone. This of course makes any sounds trying to come out of the phone go silent (they are actually still coming out of the earbuds that are in the case). They are supposed to disconnect when you put them in the case. Ambient Mode - 4 - This feature works almost like a hearing aid. It appears to use the two speakers to amplify sounds around you, and thus makes hearing with the earbuds in very easy. I REALLY do like these earbuds, but the pain the ear and this tap thing are probably going to cause me to send them back. For the price however, it's almost work putting up with this based on sound quality. Update after some two weeks of use. The tap is not getting any better. Matter of fact, it seems to be getting worse. I actually thought today that the left earbud has just stopped working with the tap period, but finally got it to respond again. Probably will send this back next week. ... show more
