As an electrician I see a lot of junk. This is definitely not junk. It is made of high quality materials. I needed a swing arm light, and thought I would take a chance on this. I was pleasantly surprised when I put it together and felt the weight. I actually checked my order to see what I paid for it. It is worth every penny. Even the little cardboard insulator. You just don't see this on cheaper lights. If you want to hard wire it, they give you all the necessary hardware and wire nuts for the job. After trying to install this sconce to the wall and having it fall out and nearly break, I was ready to return it. I found the instructions to be too general and quite unhelpful. Something that should’ve taken a good 15 minutes took me 45. Now I have never installed a wall sconce before, so I am accepting some personal fault. However, I did not think the instructions were very good. After I was able to tighten it and install the plate to the wall, I inserted my lightbulb. I’ve had the lamp for a few days next to my bed, using it as a night time reading light. It has quite a bit of mobility and is quite flexible. There are numerous ways to bring the light closer or push it further back. Overall, it was a good purchase. For someone who would consider themselves a handy man or woman or is good at mounting/installing things, this is a pretty simple installation. If not, I was able to find videos on YouTube that explained it to me. ... show more

Anyone who has priced lighting of any type knows, beyond a candle and a match, prices vary widely from not-too-bad to "you want HOW MUCH!?" And along with that the quality can vary as well. I bought this lamp to illuminate my wife's retirement clock for which I restored an old treadle sewing machine to use as a table. The lamp was quite easy to install for anyone with basic hand tool knowledge. If mounting to drywall where there are no studs I would recommend not using the included push-in anchors. The self-drilling plastic inserts are far superior. The brass parts look a bit more antiqued than in the photos of the sales page, and you can see that it is evidently not necessary to use the shade mount with the three screws to hold the shade. There is a brass ring that you can unscrew from the socket mount, slip the included metal shade onto the socket base, then replace the brass ring. It creates a nice clean look. As you can see, I used the included, attached wall cord instead of a wall box. How did I get the cord so straight? I used "Reusable Washable Gel Grip Tape" (search for it here on Amazon). I cut three or four narrow, 30mm long, and about 7mm wide strips (about 1" x 1/4"). They stick to the wall and the cord securely enough that I was able to pull the cord tight between each strip as I placed them along the length of the cord! The stuff is removable and I have found it does not affect painted surfaces. HINT: This stuff can actually hold items to a wall like a wireless hotspot. But do not use too much! It can be difficult to remove the item. ... show more

Instructions could be better but theyre fairly easy to follow. I got the plug in set so I didnt have to worry about wiring. Unlike alot of stuff I've purchased online the hanging hardware was decent. I do have a couple complaints though. These lights definitely need to be packaged better. They were bagged and the bags were placed in foam wrap, but the problem is, the while length of the lamp shouldve been protected because all the pieces rubbed together causing scratches. One of the lamps is also crooked. Bent, just slightly, so that if the wall plate is level, the rest of the lamp is not. Im super picky about that kind of stuff so that kinda sucks. Otherwise these seem to be pretty good quality. The various ranges/direction of movement is super nice to have. I cant comment on the dimming function as I have to get better quality bulbs, I dont believe mine are meant to be dimmable. ... show more

These swing-arm lamps replaced an old pair with the bulbs pointing up. Now that we use LEDs instead of incandescents, almost none of the light came DOWN onto our books/knitting. These lamps give great illumination to the work at hand, and move out of the way when not in use. The printed instructions were almost adequate! Those little pads with the double-edged tape are important for stability, even though they weren't mentioned--but i figured it out, and so will you. ... show more

Love these lamps and so do my employees. They're great in our old building, where the ceilings are super high and even super bright led ceiling lights aren't cutting it. These are easy to install and come ready to plug in. All accessories are included to hardwire them, as well. You do not need to use a dimmable bulb - when you turn the knob it'll either be on or off - no in between. The kit comes with black plastic cord clamps that have peel and stick tape - to guide the cord and keep it from looking like the ones in our office ;) I've purchased a total of 5 sets of the double arm and 2 sets of the single arm and am super happy with all! ... show more

They look great! The brass fittings add elegance and a realistic retro appearance. Easy to adjust arms. The entire arm assembly also swings left or right from the base. The smooth rotary dial dimmer is perfect. A little touch up paint (PPG's Black Magic flat) fixed factory scratches. This pair of retro wall sconces has plug in or hardwired option and were easy to install using basic home tools. The instructions are very clear. I do wish they had longer cords, 6 foot isn't quite enough for an off center wall outlet. A simple surge protector cord resolved that issue.
