  • My second one of these + assembly tip
Style: Insulated
I've just bought the single, one-story cat house for the second time. The first time was in Jan 2024, to put outside for a stray. I added styrofoam and straw for extra insulation because it's extremely cold here in the winter. It sat under my neighbor's back porch (with permission!) and was well away from precipitation, so I can't really speak to the rain and snow resistance, but it worked for the cat, and later for an opossum. This time (Dec 2025), I bought one for my indoor cats. It's a really sturdy house, though yes, it does have some imperfections. If it's for outdoor use, you may want to add to the insulation or cover all the seams from the inside, etc. But for indoor use, it's fine. For the money, honestly, it's a steal, because if you bought a solid wood cat house from an independent maker on Etsy or something, it would cost a fortune (rightly so). So if you're looking for absolute perfection, then expect to pay $300, not $70. For what it's worth, one of the product images shows the house outside with a cat standing at the doorway. I'm not sure why they use that image, because it makes the house look tiny, but it's not. The cat-house ratio is way off in that photo. My cats are 12 and 14 pounds, and the house is plenty big for one inside and one on the roof. There is an off-gassing period to contend with, which I probably didn't notice the first time since I promptly put the house outside. It's not a toxic smell per se, more like an incredibly strong cedar smell, so strong that it smells almost chemical -- which it may or may not be, but at least smell-wise, it's not a total assault to the senses. I did put the house on the back porch for a few days, and the smell eventually wore off. TIP: Assemble the front, back and side pieces together with the pieces UPSIDE DOWN, and use painter's tape to hold pieces in place before drilling. It's 100x easier to line things up, and the drilling much more accurate. I assembled it alone and it took me 30min start to finish, including unboxing and reading the instructions. Also, if you're thinking about painting the house, it would probably be slightly easier to do it before assembly. I'm thinking about painting it now, but wonder if I should have done so beforehand. It'll still be easy to do, but could probably have been even easier. I highly recommend this house. Like I said, all things considered, it's a steal. ... show more

  • Very cute, easy to put together with basic tools
Style: Cat's Condo
The product is a bluish gray, not just light gray like the one posted by the seller. It was easy enough to put together, but it doesn't come with any tools. You'll need a pair of wrench to hold the nuts on tight enough to get the bolts secured. I tried my socket wrench, but I think the hardware provided is in metric, and my tools aren't metric. There is a little bit of a smell when unboxing, but I just let it off-gas outside for a few hours, and it went away. It is as indicated, for cats under about 12lbs, but if you're getting this for stray kitties like I did, they're small enough to fit inside. There is no insulation, so if you live in a really cold climate, this won't provide much protection for full time outdoor animals. I added a small cat bed inside for a bit of extra warmth, but I live in coastal CA which is adequate for where I live. I can't tell if any of the cats have been actually spending time in the shelter, but something has been crawling inside of it, because I can see the cat bed has been moved, and there is dirt on the inside. Overall, I'd say it's a reasonably priced kit that is easy to put together. I don't know if the cats in the neighborhood will ever call it home, but I know some kind of critter has been using it, and my intention with buying this thing was to make myself, and hopefully an animal feel better, and it's doing that. ... show more

  • A good cat box
Style: Cat's Condo
I bought this for our stray cat that hangs out around our house. My plan was mainly for the winter and when it rains way too much. I have it set up under a gazebo. I cut off the door flap, and it still stays dry inside. It's well made and not flimsy. It was easy to put together, just make sure you have your tools. It has lasted through 3 hurricanes and a winter storm under the gazebo. The cat sure does appreciate it! ... show more

  • Here are extra instructions
Style: Insulated
The house is great, especially at the price point. But the insulated version doesn't have pre drilled holes on the side walls. There are holes on the front and back panels, and you really don't need pre drilled holes on the side walls because the wood is soft and the screws are sharp. They aren't hard to screw in by hand without a lot of pressure. But you do need to know how to get the panels lined up properly. And for that, they put useful little square pieces just above the legs. I incl a picture of that. If you set the bottom of your panel on that, it will be lined up properly. Also keep in mind that the front is higher than the back so that water will run off the roof. See my picture that the side has straight lines that help you determine which end is taller and goes facing front. I also attached pictures of the hinges because they didn't explain that you just need to slide the slender pegs into the bottom part of the hinge. Also remember to put the ledge on each side wall at the bottom because that's where the floor will sit. I included a picture. Finally, there is a place inside the roof to attach the folding arm. But they don't tell you where on the side wall to put it. I included a picture of where we put ours and it opens and closes easily. ... show more

  • Nice product overall but wood is flimsy
Style: Shade
The overall construction of the product is nice, the cats like it and looks nice but the wood is very thin, flimsy and easily breakable. Within the first five minutes of assembly a part of the rain cape broke off, with little pressure. Also some of the screws that were included were not the right size, too big and drilled through the thin walls. The sharp tips stuck through the other side and had to file them down so the cats would not get injured when inside the box. Manufacturers need to verify the right size screws, and the wood should be thicker, not so easily shattered. Also, predrilled holes made it more difficult to assemble, had to make some of our own holes to keep the two cape from coming loose. Not a bad product, but it could definitely be improved. ... show more
