    • Good base, bad mesh
I'm giving 2 stars because although the base is good quality the mesh is not. A product meant for soldering should be able to handle the heat. First of all there seems to be a coating of some sort that caught fire immediately. I removed my jewelry piece and got my ventilation set up right over it cause some nasty smoke was coming off the screen. I was a little shocked but decided to just burn of the "coating" from the entire surface into my ventilation. As I went about this the screen melted in more than one place from my mini jewelers torch using a feathery flame. I am not impressed with this material as clearly the manufacturer does not care for the health of the customers. Do not attempt to use this without proper ventilation for the first time. Outside is better. And good luck doing any "sweat soldering" on this thing as the product description claims it is meant for. I will be keeping the base and searching for some proper mesh. ... show more

    • Great Little Soldering Tripod
I already have a tripod but the screen is just burned up. I was trying to buy a new screen and the jewelry vendor that I usually use had one for $9.25 plus shipping and I didn't want to pay that much so I looked on Amazon and found this tripod and screen for less that the other screen cost. The screen so far has been great and it has been used and used and no holes have burned through it. I teach jewelry making classes and one of my students was making a box and we had to use two torches to get the solder to flow and the screen held up great. I am very pleased with it. I would love to be able to buy another screen but I don't think they sell it without the tripod. It came very well packaged and I can recommend it. ... show more

    • Warning! Dangerous! I suffered 2nd degree burns when it tipped over
This is very unstable and dangerous to use. If you barely bump into it, it can fall over. Not what you want to happen when you have glowing hot metal and a torch in your hands. After three accidents I asked a welder friend to make me a new version that has a sturdy weighted base. If nothing else, be really careful so you don't get hurt. ... show more

I use hard solder that requires a fair bit of heat...this mesh melted to my piece during soldering.

The tripod itself is sturdy but the mesh is way too thin. I had to buy a thicker mesh to be used with this tripod. The legs gave me some issues when I tried to assemble them. They go in at an angle and are not a perfect match for the drilled holes. Overall the tripod itself is okay but not the mesh.

    • Not ideal mesh for soldering
The tripod itself is fabulous but the mesh screen included is not able to withstand torch temperatures from sweat soldering. I had to order a separate heavy mesh. If you have any trouble screwing in the legs, they go in at an angle. Otherwise it's great, sturdy, and I love it!

I haven't used this yet, to solder jewelry but it's the perfect size, only had to screw on 3 legs. It's exactly what I needed to get started. Solid product.

Had to order twice because came without a leg. Reordered, came without a screen so I just gave up. Pathetic
