  • There is a bit of unfairness on some reviews of this pad
Mine by itself was 29.56 ounces, another ounce and small change for the bag (but I hold it together with two hair scrunchies anyways). This is what is unfair; apples to apples you have to compare this pad with pads north of R7 _AND_ of similar dimensions. i want a wide pad, I hate feeling like I'm about to fall off narrow pads. The Trekology R7 is 25" by 71". When you read the weight of say the Therm-a-rest NeoAir XTherm NXT MAX, R7.3, the most often cited weight is for the narrow, 20-inch wide. Their 25" by 72" is 24 ounces, a mere 5.5 ounce difference. A cup of water is 8 ounces by weight so a bit more than half a cup. The NXT MAX is also $140 more. The Sea to summit Ether Light XT Extreme, R7.4, in 25" wide, is 25.4 ounces. 4 ounces less (half a cup of water). It is also $170 more. The king of the hill is the NEMO Tensor Extreme UL Reg-wide, R8.5, 25" x 72", coming in at 22 ounces or 7.5 ounces more, almost a cup of water more. It is also $200 more. For what is worth, all of them are certified by the same American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), so if the R7.2 on the Trekology is wrong, the rest are equaly wrong. Bottom line is that you will not find a warmer pad for over 3 times the price, at the cost of less than a cup of water weight. And I do like it a lot! I can't wait to test it in the snow but so far in extreme warm conditions (50f is balmy weather here in Alaska) it is relatively quiet, super comfy, and with the extra width that makes a huge difference for me. Yes, the inner heat reflector gets in the way of deflating it, easily addressed by the technique of sticking a finger in the air hole. It is a fat one so it takes a bit of huffing and puffing to get it to full size. Unlike the Therm-a-Rest pads that are comfier slightly deflated, this one seems to be at its finest inflated to a higher degree. I can bottom it out with a knee on it (unfair, I know) but on my side and with an elbow propping my head i'm floating on air and I'm definitely not a skinny dude. ... show more

  • Very comfortable, warm, and light.
Money well spent. I used this for four nights in a row on a Boundary Waters canoe trip. It is the best backpacking air mattress I have used. It was very comfortable and did not make an extreme amount of noise when moving around on it. I weighed 238 lbs at that time and was not touching ground. It is insulated so that I did not get cold while sleeping in Northern Minnesota in early June. I am glad that someone brought a battery-operated pump, or it might have only gotten 4 stars 😉 ... show more

  • Good insulation, packs lightly, collects moisture inside
Good isolation, haven’t used it in below freezing temperatures though. I used it to camp in the fall in Iceland, as well as VT and NH, with temp at night about 35-40 degrees Fahrenheit (1-4 Celsius). The tent I used with this mattress is technically meant for warm months camping, as it’s not really insulated and offers a lot of ventilation. Sleeping pad 550 down fill, comfort range 30 Fahrenheit (gender not specified, so assumingely it’s a comfort range for men). Slept in mid-warmth thermal pajamas. I’m a female in my 30’s and that set up kept me warm through the nights. I’m taking a star out since it’s nearly impossible to dry it out entirely from the inside, after using your own lungs to blow it up. Not gonna be an issue if you use a pump (not included). ... show more

  • This mattress is a miracle at the price
I've used it half a dozen times now. Can't speak to the long term longevity, but I'm wondering how I lived without it. Not just for camping. I have severe arthritis in my back, and I HAVE to sleep on a super soft mattress, or risk my back muscles going into spasm. As a guest, I've learned not to trust that the "guest bed" will be soft enough for me. For years I've hauled around a $20 air mattress, which saves my back. But air mattresses are so cold that I can feel freezing sometimes even in many people's nighttime "room temperature". And they are hella bulky to pack, especially with all the extra bedding I might feel the need to bring. I discovered there was such a thing as an insulated air mattress, and I might have been willing to spring for the $300ish these usually cost. But then I found this one and decided to try it. It's GREAT! Its WARM! It packs beautifully in a suitcase! No extra bedding needed! Yes it's narrow compared to a twin, but I don't roll off it. Even directly on the floor, its just thick enough to prevent pressure points, even with how soft I keep it. It's a godsend for me, whether tent camping, car camping, or even "camping" on a friend's guest bed. I will say, because it achieves the insulation by having layers of mylar sandwiched inside, that it can be a little crinkly and noisy if you are a restless sleeper. This is trivial to me, but it may bother you more. Just be aware. ... show more

  • Solid
The sleeping pad is solid. It’s comfortable and easy to pack and travel with. I am using this as something to sleep on when I visit friends, not for camping so I can’t speak on that front. I slept on it for 3 nights and it held up well. I think the air retention was decent, I was never close to the floor when I woke up. I would recommend putting a cushy blanket to sleep on top of to make it even more comfortable and to make it less noisy when moving around on it. This is a good alternative if there’s no guest bed or if there’s a uncomfy couch ... show more

  • Great all season
Really warm 4 season pad. Hold air great with a one way valve if you need to inflate with a bag style inflator or your breath. Also opens completely for an electric one. Some complain about the reflective material inside causing issues packing but I've had none.
