Frequently asked questions

Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) is a system designed to provide improved control on slippery surfaces by making it easier to maintain the vehicle’s line and to control slides and spins. TSM works by adjusting the Slash 4X4's steering and throttle output in real time, based on the vehicle's motion and the driver's inputs, to help keep the truck heading in the desired direction.

The Slash 4X4 comes equipped with the TQi Link Enabled 2.4GHz Radio System, which is a high-performance system specifically designed for this vehicle. While it is possible to use a different radio system, it requires compatible receivers and may result in the loss of certain features like Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) and telemetry that the TQi system provides.

Yes, the Slash 4X4 has waterproof electronics which allow it to be driven in wet conditions, including mud, snow, and puddles. However, it is recommended to clean and dry the truck after use in such conditions to prevent damage and to maintain its performance.

The Slash 4X4 can be powered by either NiMH or LiPo batteries, but the specific runtime will depend on several factors including the type and capacity of the battery used, driving conditions, and the driving style. Generally, a high-capacity LiPo battery can provide around 20-30 minutes of runtime under normal driving conditions.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The RC car in question has received mixed reviews, with many customers appreciating its speed and durability, particularly as an energetic toy for pets or a durable hobby car. However, others have expressed concerns over its long-term durability, noting that parts such as the gears and drive shafts can break or wear out unexpectedly early. The need for upgrades and replacements for certain parts has been highlighted as both a pro and a con, signaling that while the car can be maintained and improved, this comes at an additional cost.

Pros

  • 🏎️ High speed and good maneuverability for fun or competition
  • 🛠️ Durable and repairable, allowing for long-term use
  • 🔋 Can be a great energy outlet, especially for pets
  • 🔧 Upgradable for improved performance

Cons

  • ⚙️ Parts like gears and drive shafts may break or require upgrades
  • 🔄 Frequent need for repairs or replacements, adding extra cost
  • 👎 Some materials (e.g., plastic threads on shock caps) are of poor quality
  • 💵 Initial affordability may be offset by the cost of maintenance and upgrades

Should I Buy It?

If you're seeking a high-speed, fun, and energizing toy that can be customized and repaired, this RC car might be a good investment, especially if you have the patience and budget for potential repairs and upgrades. However, if you're looking for a low-maintenance or budget-friendly option, you might want to consider other options that require less maintenance out of the box.

  • Fast and durable
The media could not be loaded. This rc car was suggested to me as a more durable and repairable rc car to purchase as an exercise toy for my Australian Shepherd. It has been a wonderful energy release for our rowdy boy! We actually must be careful about saying the word car around our pup. Waiting on a few parts to get up and running again but my fault as I have not yet gotten to the point of driving well enough yet to keep him from getting hold of the car. He has been very ruff when he gets hold of it but since I can repair, it has been well worth the money and our sanity! Thinking of getting an upgrade so we have a backup car during repairs! Need a longer lasting battery because always has enough energy left to grab the car when battery dies. ... show more

  • Lasted about 30 minutes
I took this slash 4x4 out and it was awesome, initially thought this was going to be my favorite RC. Thirty minutes later, I thought what a piece of crap. It quickly went from ripping up the track to a crawl. At first I thought it was the battery the closer I got to it I could hear the gears. Seamed like the transmission gears were grinding and the transmission was smoked, you could smell it. I am aware that parts fail, but within a 30 minute period, ridiculous. I have to say my Arrma’s are way better than this, they are tough, reliable, and no matter what you throw at them they keep on going. I looked at the reviews on this, I should’ve listened to a lot of the ones I read but I didn’t. I would not recommend this, but maybe you’ll have better luck than I did. I will say, I was able to return this without any issues, JEGS refunded my money right away. JEGS 5 stars, Traxxas Slash 1 star, 0 stars if it was an option. ... show more

  • Not durable
Broke after we ran it for 10 minutes. Not worth the money. Reordered replacement parts and broke again in 15 min

  • Breaks easily
Be prepared to spend a lot more money upgrading, there aren’t any good drive shafts either, they all snap easily. The shock caps pop off on the stock shocks, their plastic threads! Wtf… anyway, it’s really fast, too fast for the crappy material it’s made from. Definitely regret the purchase. I didn’t even bash it, just raced on a dirt track. Go with a cheap Chinese rc car. Traxxas are designed to break. (Spend more money on “upgrades”) ... show more
