My back isn’t what it used to be and after a recent trip through Europe I decided it was time to replace my very sturdy Eagle Creek two-wheeled luggage with something four-wheeled. My Eagle Creek luggage was a significant investment for me and remains in near perfect shape after several years but this time around I was looking for something less utilitarian. I purchased the espresso color and it is a deep, rich brown but not quite as dark as espresso, which usually strikes me as almost black. I was delighted with this suitcase right out of the box. It’s light, even lighter than my Eagle Creek, which was a huge improvement over other luggage at the time. The large pocket on the front of the bag opens up folder style just as it should, since I typically rummage through it while I’m standing at the airport or hotel lobby. It spins and moves like a dream, if that isn’t obvious. The hardware is well integrated into the design; with the deep color and leather trim, this is a formal looking suitcase. The interior is both thoughtful and attractive. This is a bag I will check. I’m not short (5’6”) but I personally would not want work to shove this into a crowded overhead compartment in economy; nor would it have been allowed as a carry-on on my recent trip to London on New Zealand Air, it weighs too much. I’ve got a smaller 16-inch spinner for carry-on and short trips. I’m a light packer, this is the bag I will use for five- to seven-day trips, longer with laundry access. I won’t be using the charging port. I can see it being useful for international flights where you are not sure you will find an outlet to fit your charger. Frequent flyers using economy with tight connections might find it valuable; that is a situation where outlet access can be limited. The pocket is in a handy location on the top side panel of the bag so I’ll definitely find a use for it. The attached toiletries bag is really nice but I’m not sure how practical it is as you have to fully unzip the bag to get at it, which means it needs to be on the table or floor. Where will I do this? In a fast moving security line? As I approach the conveyor belt? I’d be more likely to keep mine in the front pocket until after security and then stow it in the bag when I have access to a table or bench. The interior doesn’t fit my existing packing cubes, which I believe to be standard. The 17-inch large won’t zip into the pocket on the top inside of the bag and the medium to small cubes don’t seem to fit well. I don’t normally use the large bag outside of lengthy trips so I can work around it. My garment folder fits perfectly and is what I use most for work trips. I’ll figure out organizing with the smaller bags as I go along. The small mesh pockets on the top of the tie down may seem a little oddly sized (small and thin) but I always travel with some odds and ends that can’t all be tossed into one bag/cube so they are going to be very useful to me. All in all, different than the layout I’m used to but it’s going to be a wonderful travel companion. ... show more

Very durable and high quality. The zippers are very sturdy. It glides well. The navy color looks really nice (just get a unique bag tag so it doesn't blend in with all of the other suitcases). I've never had a 4 wheel suitcase before, so I'm a little worried about wheel durability, but so far so good. ... show more

Bought earlier 2024 and took it on a 21 day trip to SE Asia. Utilized a clear luggage cover over the bag and there is no damage of any kind on this Travelpro medium check in, dark brown or expresso color. It's very roomy and easy to utilize since it opens like a trunk. In checking the specs, it states a 97L volume, which compared to many trunk style luggage, is a larger capacity. When abroad, I saw a few trunk style pieces at the luggage area, and speculated that they were roomier, but if the specs listed on Amazon are correct, this Travelpro beats them outright for space. The trunks I'm comparing are not XL sizes but comparable in outer dimensions to this medium check in. The outer material is a premium soft sided material and is expandable. The only minor con I have has to do with the design of the handle which sticks out from the rail at the top due to padding. If the smaller bag you want to piggyback on this piece doesn't have a wide enough trolley strap, then it gets a little difficult to slip over the handle. By no means a dealbreaker but just something to consider if you plan on placing a personal item backpack or similar on top.     • FANTASTIC BAG!! This is the last carry on bag you will ever own!

This is the best carry on bag I have ever owned and used. The dimensions are PERFECT for a carry on, and it fits within current carry on regulations. I like this even more than the Away hard shell luggage I tried. I found the Away luggage much harder to use. You have to place the Away luggage on a large flat surface so you can open the whole thing. The Away luggage hard shell also makes zipping up the luggage a bit more awkward. I love that you can place the Travelpro on a chair, desk, etc. and open it up easily. I also purchased this to replace a previous Samsonite carry on spinner. Samsonite is the worst, they do not back up or stand behind their products at all. A wheel broke (this luggage was only used as a carry on), and Samsonite refused to fix it. They claimed we abused the luggage. We will NEVER purchase Samsonite again, I refuse to support companies who don't stand behind their products. Upside * The smoothest rolling I have ever felt - the magnetic wheels help you luggage glide gracefully and straight across ay path * LIFETIME Warranty!! (this applies even if it's the airline's fault) - note warranty policies change, it was lifetime for me, but triple check before you purchase * Zippers are smooth as SILK! * Great construction quality, I don't expect this to ever break * The handle is solid, yet not too large, and travels up and down the side of the suitcase very easily * Lots of various compartments that are thoughtfully placed * Option to use your own power bank if you choose to * Lots of room inside to pack various items - space is not wasted with this bag! * Waterproof toiletry bag that you can remove if you want to save space * Integrated garment bag to help keep clothes wrinkle free; you can remove if you want to save space Downside * Cost - this will cost more than a lot of luggage you see out there; on the order of 2x - 4x what you may pay for something else * While this is technically the legal carry one size, I've seen people take larger bags onto airplanes (I find this rude and annoying as they take up all the overhead space, but don't get me started) Save yourself the headache of broken luggage.
