Description

The Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light is the smallest, lightest full-scale acoustic/electric travel guitar on the market. The proprietary In-Body Tuning System uses standard tuning machines relocated into the body, eliminating the need for a headstock. As a result, you’ll have the same full-scale playing experience you’re used to on an instrument that’s 31% shorter and 43% lighter than a typical full size acoustic. You can plug the Ultra-Light into your favorite amp or recording device thanks to its piezo pickup and standard 1/4 inch output. The lap rest is detachable for easy transport, so guitar and bag fit easily in an airline overhead compartment. And, since the guitar weighs less than three pounds and is only 28 inches long, you can take it anywhere. The Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light is the perfect solution for traveling players who want a full-scale experience in the smallest, lightest package possible.

  • Mixed bag
Style: Black Walnut Fretboard Size: Guitar Color: Vintage Red Configuration: Right-Handed
Pros: - It's cute and convenient - It holds its tune well - I liked the stock strings - I didn't have the issues with the leg rest and holding up the neck that others have commented on. It doesn't come with a strap, so you have to use your own, but with a strap it's easy enough to get it so your fretting hand isn't holding the weight of the neck, with or without the leg rest. The leg rest makes it even easier and is comfortable enough for me. However, I ended up returning it because of a few issues. I'm a beginner, so apologies if I don't have all the right words for some of the things I noticed: - The fingerboard (rosewood, on the vintage red model) is clearly dyed and the dye comes off on my fingers when playing for not very long. It's hard to get off my fingers. - The tone is very treble-y and tinny. I have to turn the tune knob on my amp all the way down to get what I think is a reasonable sound, and even then it's not great. - There's a lot of fret buzz. I don't know how much of this is just the nature of piezo pickups, but it's noticeably more than I get with my full size electric guitar, it sounds through the amp, and it's distracting. - The combined output jack/strap knob keeps loosening and I had to keep taking off the plate on the back to screw it back. I think this is a side effect of having those two functions combined rather than a defect with my specific model. Overall, it's a brilliant form factor with mediocre construction. My full size guitar cost about the same amount ($240 used) and it is nicer in every way except for compactness. $150-$200 would be a more appropriate price point for the quality of this product, and if you can get it used in that range it's worth giving it a try. It's not worth $300 though. ... show more

  • I wanted to like it. No customer service.
Style: Black Walnut Fretboard Size: Guitar Color: Antique Brown Configuration: Right-Handed
I got this just to have something small to practice with while relaxing and sitting back in the recliner. (My back bothers me so sitting up straight for too long hurts). It works really good for that. After a few weeks I kept hearing what I thought was loud and persistent fret buzz. It was driving me nuts and I was pretty much ready to put this in the trash. Then I realized it was the audio jack that was loose and vibrating. I took the back cover off to tighten it (I later discovered you can also tighten it up from the outside without removing that cover) and found that the wires inside were damaged. There is a kind of spring/lock washer on it but it still keeps coming loose every couple weeks. These have a 3 year warranty for electronic parts and per Traveller’s webpage the way to contact them is via email. I’ve emailed Traveller 2 times and have not received a response in a month. I sent a 3rd email just now but am not expecting a response again. I will update the review if they ever do respond back to me. ... show more

  • Good but needs improvement
Style: Black Walnut Fretboard Size: Guitar Color: Antique Brown Configuration: Right-Handed
I purchased this because I travel quite bit for work and this was the only way to keep up any sort of daily practice schedule. It's nice and small and I can generally sneak it onto a plane tucked under my backpack, I also have a roll aboard, which would be my third bag. It's so small it tucks next to the seat when at the window or easily fits in the overhead on top of my roll aboard. It's also hit the floor once when another passenger didn't realize it was also on top of their bag, no damage though, so that's a plus. Improvements I've made: the tuners are the worst on this, you have no finite adjustment so I purchase a pair Taylor tuners and replaced them. Fairly straightforward process if you're handy. I also put on a set of Ernie Ball Lights. It's much better now and I can tune it correctly with the Taylor tuners, which are super smooth. Made in China if you were wondering, which I hate but really didn't have any choice in this case. Pretty solid otherwise. ... show more

  • Great TRAVEL Guitar
Style: Black Walnut Fretboard Size: Guitar Color: Vintage Red Configuration: Right-Handed
Few years ago, I wanted to start to learn how to play the guitar. Then work hit me with a lot of travel. I was missing about 25% of my lessons because being on the road and didn't want to spend the money or deal with the hassle of dragging my acoustic through airport and onto flights. I had looked at backpacking guitars, and a friend recommended this one. It is about as condensed as you can go and still have six full strings. It has been easy to take through the airport and easily fits in the last few remaining inches of overhead space. It sounds okay when plugged into an amp. I wouldn't use this to perform. But for hotel practice, it's been great. The employees, I'm working with on the road, had me bring it in several times so they could see it (and they are far better musicians than me) and they were impressed and could do some really cool stuff with it. ... show more

  • Outstanding workmanship and design
Style: Maple Fretboard Size: Guitar Color: Black Gloss Configuration: Right-Handed
If you're considering this guitar, it has to be solely because you want something that doesn't take up a lot of space. In that respect it is ideal. Full size scale (24-3/4" nut to bridge), but still the most compact guitar ever. You do have to realize, though, that there are some compromises you have to make. So here they are: 1) Like most compacts, it is neck heavy. Even using a strap on the buttons provided, it will point down. I manage this by tying the top end of the strap above the nut. You can also use the thigh rest, but again, it will tend to tilt down. 2) There is no place to rest your right arm. You can kind of rest your forearm on the corner, right above the output jack, but it's not as comfortable as most full size guitars. If you strum, his will probably cramp your style a bit. 3) There is no sound box, so to play you need a small amp. You can practice with just the sound the strings make (which is kind of a feature, since you can practice very quietly, if you are concerned about bothering others), but you're not going to want anyone else to hear it without an amp. And that is literally ALL. Everything else is perfect. It is very nicely built and finished, and I can't wait to pick it up every day to practice. The strings are extra light D'Addario EJ15s, which are perfect for me. My last guitar, long ago, was a Squier Strat, and this guitar is superior to it in every way. My best Amazon purchase ever. ... show more
