Mine is .035 inch thick non magnetic stainless that is coated black. Should be very corrosion resistant, definitely tough, but it is not very stiff. I mounted mine on a rear trailer door, so it is not exposed to wind. If you bolt it on with a fender light and it is subjected to wind drag, I don't know if it would be subject to cracking from repeated flex. Definitely better than plastic for the cost. Comes with reflective stickers which added to the value. It's exactly what I needed.

Boat trailer had plastic plate holder. If you flipped it with your finger , it vibrates like crazy. Can only imagine what it looks like rolling down the highway. Decided to replace it with a metal plate holder. This one has good reviews. Plate holder is not magnetic, but that doesn't mean it is made of stainless. One of the illustrations indicate the thickness of plate is 0.050". The measurement of the plate I received is 0.032" ( 1/32 of an inch ) or ten pieces of papaer thick. After mounting, if you flipped the plate with your finger, it vibrates like crazy, just like it was made of pladtic.
