  • Good violin to fool around
Pros: - This is an actual (plastic) violin that you could actually play and make music with if you (or your child) know how to play. - It's very durable and perfect for a toddler or preschooler to beat and throw around. - My kid does enjoy holding it more or less like a violin and playing some notes on it. Cons: - The sound is not exactly great (which you probably don't care if you are buying a toy violin). - This thing is night impossible to tune correctly, which again it probably doesn't matter. - It says in the details that it's for 3 year old kids or older, however this seems to me too large for and average 3 year old. My kid doesn't care but just remember that this might not be the right size to actually learn how to play violin. Neither here nor there: - The bow it comes with does work, but like any new bow, it needs about 10 minutes of vigorous rosining before your can use it for the first time, otherwise it won't produce any sound. ... show more

  • Can work
I was originally disappointed, as it seemed impossible to make the violin make any noise whatsoever (other than by plucking the strings), and the bow was of poor quality and broke (inside the frog) nearly right away. However, one of my girls got a hold of my (real) bow, and I realised the toy violin has a pretty good sound quality. We purchased a real 1/4 size bow to replace the broken bow and the violin is an amazing little instrument for tiny fingers which cannot be trusted with a 'real' violin, but who desperately want to try. The rosin that came with it seemed inferior, but this could just be that we did not have enough patience with it considering I had rosin already broken in in my violin. I am giving it it 4 stars overall, because the violin itself actually works, but the bow is crappy. Purchasing a real violin bow nearly doubles the price, but makes it a true instrument, for still less than1/2 the cost of buying a real 1/4 size violin. ... show more

  • Not great for destructive boys
This is a very toy like instrument. Probably good for kids that are a little older and take care of their toys better than mine. Its very hard to produce any sound with as well. Please invite me to Amazon Vine

  • Great little violin terrible cheap bow
I actually am surprised how much I like the violin for my kids. It was a great purchase for us. The only thing I don't like is the bow is so incredibly cheap. It broke within the first couple hours of use and there was no reason for that to have happened.

  • Not perfect, but it works for a baby!
Professional violinist here with a baby nephew - I got him a very, very nice violin. It’s scary because you really have to watch him. I got him this so that he can play with it on his own without supervision. This is great because it allows them to really explore the instrument without you freaking out about it breaking. Is it an incredible sound? No…. Does the bow work great for various bow strokes…no…it doesn’t have many hairs. BUT, it’s a plastic fiddle. Don’t expect it to be more than that and you’ll be happy. ... show more

  • Definitely a toy
The violin is ok, but it is very hard to tune and to keep in tune. Even relative fifths is hard. The tuning pegs slip too easily. And the bow is horrible. Not even worthy of the name. The toy comes with rosin, but it hardly helps the plastic bow strings. The bow itself does not keep tension unless it is tightened to the point where it looks like it is about to break. ... show more

  • Just What I Wanted
This toy violin works like a real violin. It plays sounds when you rub the strings with the bow. It does not play preprogrammed songs. This is exactly what I was looking for! I found it to be important to use a key to really dig into the surface of the rosin before using the rosin on the bow. I also found it to be important to rosin the bow a lot before it worked well. But, after rubbing the bow on the rosin block for several minutes, it played the music beautifully on the violin. My only complaint is I wish this site included a video to show how to stick on the labels of notes because I couldn’t figure out where to put the label. Now, I know nothing about violins. I have no idea where the notes are on a violin. Other than that, I am pleased with this product. It works just like I hoped and my daughter is enjoying playing it (even if it’s not trying to play it for real). ... show more

  • The customer service is incredible
I got this violin for my 2 year old, after she took an interest in my own violin. As she's 2, she's not quite ready for a real violin, and I felt this would be a decent compromise. Honestly, this violin can take a beating. It's gone up and down the stairs, it's been sat on, it's been dropped, it's been carried by the strings, and it is still going strong. She loves it. And the strings are actually tunable, which is incredible. The best part, though, is the customer service. My daughter broke the bow. She was *devastated.* We managed to glue it back together, but I wasn't sure how durable the glue would be. I took a chance and contacted the company to see if I could buy a replacement. In the mail today, I received a new bow. I didn't have to pay for it. They looked through their returns, managed to find a bow, and just sent it to us. I'm absolutely floored. I think every toddler in my life is going to be getting one of these. ... show more
