Very heavy weight. This saddle pad will not be good for hot climates or summer riding. It is very heavy felt. If you need to go out in the winter or have a horse with a very narrow top line, this would be a good go to for you. It would be difficult for a child to get up onto the back of a horse without assistance as it is pretty weighty. The quality is good and it should hold up well over time. I would store it in the barn int eh winter - your mice will have a good time stealing fabric for their winter homes. :-) ... show more

    • Thick and heavy but my horse reacted positively to this pad ~ and that’s what matters most to me!
I was hesitant when I realized how heavy/thick this pad is but it actually is perfect for my hard-to-fit older thoroughbred. It looks great on him and it cushions his shoulders/back very nicely. He seemed comfortable on our ride ~ more cooperative than usual! I’m taking from his behavior that he likes it too! Well worth the price! ... show more

Don’t do it. Bits of white plastic sewn on the underside, and full of wiry plastic pokey fibers that shed off of it. Definitely not going on my horse’s back. Smells like chemicals and armpit. One star because the burgundy color is pretty. Seriously, get something else.
