Recently, I have been doing a boatload of my work from remote video calls, and so being seen and heard clearly is imperative to my business success and its continued financial growth, and the offer of this package that Toucan made available in the form of its combination system does not disappoint in the least and was well worth the purchase. I have used it for both conferencing and streaming since getting it. The camera is easy to detach and mount, and there was very little time consumption in the set up. I could stand all the way on the other side of my office, way back behind my bookcase even, and was clearly heard, and so the speaker provides loud and clear sound quality. Its “plug and play” also, and that means that-which if you are like me-and generally tend to be running things solo around the home office and can’t get a technician easily, having a simple means of plugging a device in, with the most basic option to play, is extremely ideal. It has been very useful as a device, in terms of my capacity to save time, and also sustain a level of professionalism that is necessary when hosting the kinds of group meetings that I do. Though I’m still working at home, it is often still at the level of suit and tie. There is not any software that you have to install, which I think is a huge bonus. Warning, see follow up paragraph.. Computer was trashed by this device. First review: Easy setup, seemed plug and play. Video worked well with Camera, MS Teams and Zoom. Audio was a complete fail on my Win 11, Lenovo laptop. The audio system was clashing with the Realtek speaker/mic native application and could not resolve the connection...both the laptop and the device audio systems were totally unusable. Toucan Support was unable to suggest a solution. Lot of money for an out-of-box fail. Returned the item immediately. Follow up: completely wrecked the laptop audio system. Toucan registry remanents could not be found but device persisted in Sound Devices. Could not be removed or disabled. Finally resorted to rolling back to a restore point. ... show more

I've finally accepted the reality that the prevalence of the 'video call' isn't going to fade even though the COVID pandemic is pretty much in the rear view mirror. Since no one will accept my shabby excuses for not looking professional on video calls I've decided to set up my own 'Zoom Room'. This way I'll have a professional setting for the call, have all of the necessary tech devices set up and ready to go and will only have to worry about being semi-coherent and looking somewhat human. I've got all of the equipment I need for my dedicated video calling/conferencing setup except the most important one--a camera. I've got a decent webcam on my PC so I thought about using that. Ultimately, I figured that I should get a camera designed specifically for conference calls with multiple participants. There might be times when I have two or three people with me in the 'Zoom Room' and should that occur there are dedicated cameras that handle it better than even the best webcam. This evening, I tested out conference room style webcams. I tested a half dozen different conference room style cams and evaluated as many of the features that would be relevant to an actual video call as possible. Ultimately, this camera fared well in terms of quality and performance. It was also by far the most versatile camera. It also had the best audio and was right at the top of best video quality. With the video, I tested several different apps and light levels. I also tested it on my desktop and laptop PCs running Ubuntu. I give the video features high marks--I looked good in every video setting, with the camera performing particularly well in low light. It had a wide field of vision--important for a conference call setting--and all of the associates I brought in for testing were able to fit on screen (actually, I brought three cats into my office to play the role of co-workers). Colors were good, I didn't look washed out and you could see the fur markings on all three cats very clearly. The audio was excellent--not surprising since the camera is sitting on a big speaker. The speaker delivered excellent sound quality and the microphone had me coming in loud and clear no matter where I moved in my office. It wasn't as easy to set up as some of the other cameras, but for a good reason--it offers so many different configuration possibilities and connection options that you have to figure out what will work best for your specific needs. Once you figure it out, set up is easy and the camera worked great on my Ubuntu based PCs. It also has a dedicated power cord--not all cameras in this price range do. In terms of aesthetics, it lapped the field--it's a great looking unit that is arguably the best looking camera of this type on the market (at least in this price range). One complaint--I wish there was a lens cap or some other protective option included. I'm sure I can find something aftermarket, but protecting the lens is pretty essential. A travel case would have also been great--particularly since there are so many connection options and cords to deal with. Unlike most cameras of this type, the camera can be detached from the speaker/base and used separately. This is a nice feature, but I can also envision losing the camera at some point in transit. Those are very minor gripes for what is essentially a very good camera. It is extremely versatile, very well made and creates quality output. Plus it looks really cool sitting on your desk!
