  • A brilliant bargain
Color: One Color
I need to sing the praises of this really clever tool, a great design executed extremely well. First, this thing is light. 125 grams for a multi tool including a chain breaker is really good. But that does not do it justice, because not all chain tools are equal. Most are flimsy things lacking leverage to do the job (I'm looking at you Lezyne). Here the ratchet is the lever, a vastly superior solution. Some worry that this not an 11 speed chain design. This is not as important as it sounds. The pin has not changed in diameter. The chain plates have gotten thinner and the lawyers are more nervous as a result. Use the tool to break the chain and carry a master link to join up the ends. Even Shimano has given in and uses a master link now. The chain tool is not the end of this tool's virtues. The ratchet is superb for working in small spaces. Get a bit extender if the short bits are not long enough to reach. Note that the butt end of the ratchet also accepts bits, making it into a handy screw driver. Add the bit extender to the end of the ratchet and you've got a tool with almost shop level amounts of leverage, for say, loosening a pedal, a task beyond most any other multi tool. Note that most pedals now take an 8mm hex. This tool does not have an 8mm hex bit you may point out. That is where the true brilliance of this tool shines. You are not stuck with the bits they provide. You can mix and match according to your own needs. 3T now irritatingly makes stems using a Torx 30 bolt, rendering most existing multi tools useless. But not this one, just get the new bit and you're back in business. ... show more

  • Best bicycle tool i've ever seen.
Color: One Color
This is probably the best bike tool ive ever had or seen, and it has other uses aswell, i could nearly take apart my entire bicycle with this, all i need is a extra wrench for the brakes, and a pedal wrench, plairs would be helpful, and i could probably do a complete dissasembly This thing is tough, i tested it thougroughly because i need to rely on my tools and i hurt my hand before i hurt the tool, its top notch, the chain breaker works great. i love that i can put a bit into the long end to use as a screwdriver for adjusting my Derailleurs if something gets hit out of place. I almost want to buy another one just to keep in my truck or home tool box when working on my computers or needing to adjust a Fuel cable. absoloutly amazing tool. it comes with a case to put this into thats got a rubber face, it attaches snuggly, no rattle, not cheap brittle rubber, will resist almost any rain, and it will strap right onto your frame, or just toss it in a bike bag or a pocket, the ratchet itself is about as long as a finger so if you wanted to minimize this kit for maximum weight saving you could very easily theres some bits my bicycle doesent need so i could personally swap some out for other things. The only thing i dont like is that this tool is so great that i wish i had just a little bit more room in the box for my brake wrench and a few tire patches and everything in life would be complete. although i do beleive the topeak survival box has that stuff in it if you need more or go long distances. but i mean its not even a big deal just a personal thing. ... show more

  • Not As Good As Expected
Color: One Color
Given all the other very positive reviews here I had high expectations for this tool. When it arrived I was disappointed. First, it is very much made to be stored in a plastic box (with a rubber front cover) that either fixes to the frame in place of a water bottle, or attaches to the seat stem. The tyre levers (which include a spanner cutout) are stored inside this box separate from the rest of the tool (I had assumed they somehow clipped on to the main body). If you don't want to use the tool in this way (and the box makes it significantly larger to store in a bag) then the tyre levers become small, separate, pieces that will be soon lost. Second, those tyre levers are metal, so will scratch / mark alloy rims (it even comes with a warning saying not to use them!). So maybe the problem above is a feature - the levers are not part of the tool because they should be replaced anyway?! Third, the bits are not held in "soft" plastic as with most bit sets. Instead, the bit box is hard plastic with a lid. You can see this lid in the photo of course, but I had no idea it would be critical - when the lid breaks (and it will, it's just plastic) all the bits will fall out. Fourth, the ratchet appears very delicate. I've owned small ratchets before, and in my experience the best don't look anything like a large ratchet - it's better to simplify the design and make it stronger. Instead, this looks like a "shrunk" ratchet from a shop, and while it's very cute, it seems like it's not going to last. Compare to the better folding tools, it's easier to use, but feels like it won't last as long. ... show more

  • Fantastic Bike Tool!
Color: One Color
I started riding again about 10 years ago, and now spend a great deal of time riding mountain bikes and road bikes with my kids. Throughout these years, I've used several different "bicycle multi-tools". They've all had shortcomings. The best of them (a tool by Specialized) was a little too compact, and therefore didn't provide the leverage often needed. Recently, the main tool I carry broke, so I was looking for a replacement. Enter the Topeak Ratchet Rocket: I ordered this and have used it on a few rides now...it is GREAT...by far the best tool I've used. It has the leverage needed to make confident adjustments/repairs, more versatility than I could have envisioned, and the compactness to take along. I'm not sure how durable the case is, but I really don't plan on using it. I'll just slip the tool into an undersaddle bag, along with a tube, patch kit, tire levers and a patch kit. Absolutely Fantastic! UPDATE (July 22, 2015): It is nearing the 4 year mark since I purchased this tool. It has been fantastic. The ratchet has been totally reliable. I've bought a number of Rocket Ratchets (various versions) for gifts since them. Most all of my cycling friends now use one. This has truly been "money well spent"! ... show more
