I used the previous version of this case for nearly 7 years. It was, hands down, the best laptop bag I'd ever owned. After it finally wore out, I went through a whole rotation of other brands trying to find something comparable — spoiler: nothing came close. So here I am, back where I started. This appears to be an updated version, and I happened to stumble across it right when I was in the market for a new case. Perfect timing. Shipping was fast, as expected, and the design has clearly been refined — it looks noticeably more polished than the older model. As for protection? My 7 years with the previous version already answered that question. I use it primarily with my MacBook M1 Pro and an iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard, and whether I'm carrying each, the fit is spot on. Everything sits securely without feeling cramped. This Tomtoc travel soft case is well built and padded comfortably with reinforced shock absorbing corners. It fit my MacBook Pro perfectly. It has an appropriately sized pocket in the front pouch for the 140-watt magsafe charger and cable and another pocket for my external drive with more room to spare for an HDMI cable and adapters. I suppose, if I had a hard shell protection case on the MacBook Pro, it might add just enough height and length by a few millimeters that it might not fit properly and still zip without stretching the corners a bit. I suspect this is what was behind some complaints that it didn’t fit well. The fit is fairly precise. It’s easy to use with quality zippers and the price is a good value given the construction. I ended up buying two types from Tomtoc for the 16” MacBook Pro: horizontal for me and vertical with a cross-shoulder strap and top handle for my partner to keep it hands-free and close to the body without it swinging around. I used this with a 13.6” MacBook Air (M4), and while it’s not a bad product, it wasn’t what I was looking for. The main thing to understand is that this is not really a snug sleeve. It feels more like a compact carrying case with padding and storage. Because of that, the laptop sits inside with some extra space rather than being held tightly in place. If you’re expecting a form-fitting sleeve, this will likely feel loose. The build on my unit also wasn’t as clean as expected. The outer material showed some wrinkling, and the overall structure felt soft. The corners have padding, but they don’t feel like true reinforcement — more like added material rather than engineered protection. On the plus side, it does offer storage and basic protection, so it may work well for someone who wants a lightweight case to carry accessories along with the laptop. For me, I was looking for a tighter, more controlled fit, and this design leans more toward versatility than precision. Bottom line: decent as a small padded case, but not ideal if you want a snug, form-fitting sleeve. ... show more
