Description

James Bond... Solid Snake... Ethan Hunt... Based on their recent games, all these so-called superspies could stand to take a few lessons from newcomer Sam Fisher. His name isn't important; the important thing is that his game, Splinter Cell, comes from Tom Clancy's game studio and offers up the kind of sophistication and control you'd expect from the studio that brought gamers Rainbow Six. It's all about the details. When Sam enters a dark area, he's got two options, thermal and night vision. Thermal lets him see the body heat of an enemy soldier, even through walls and doors. Shoot through cover with a high-powered weapon, and you can watch as the heat fades from the body. Not dark yet? Shoot out the lights. Need a distraction? Pick up and toss a tin can. Come up to a door too thick to pass thermal readings? Sneak up to it, slip a fiber-optic lead under the door frame, and peek at what's beyond. When you're ready, open the door--just a little bit at a time. While Splinter Cell lacks a famous hero in the lead role, it does sport the famous technical military thriller author Tom Clancy in the title. And you can see the evidence of his expertise in every facet of the game. Who needs the baggage of Metal Gear Solid 2 when Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell brings you better weapons, better controls, better graphics, better spy toys, and a coherent story?

  • A great game that still works for today's technology
Platform For Display: PC Download
I was feeling a bit nostalgic, and I really wanted to play this game without having to find it and reconnect my ps2. I wasn't sure if this game would still work on Windows 7, but after doing a little research to see if it still works on Windows 7, I decided to give it a shot. The game still works and I haven't found any bugs with it yet. I've played from start to finish - including the three bonus missions after the main missions - without one problem. The only thing I felt a little disappointed was the resolution for the game's videos, but apparently Ubisoft intended to dull down the resolution anyway. Even though I haven't done it, I read a few forums online saying you can change the resolution yourself by editing one of the files (at your own risk, of course). Anyway, if you're feeling a little bit of nostalgia, buy this game; I know it works up to Windows 7. ... show more

  • it's ok

I wanted to try it out before buying the latest Splinter Cell game, but I maybe should have bought one of the later games instead. This game did give an idea of how it plays, but the newer game may not play quite the same, maybe better and easier to understand.

  • Original Still Great!
Platform For Display: PC
Fun! Not as good as Chaos Theory, but still fun. This game is not designed for Windows 7, but still runs great. It will still allow you to play if you have Windows 7. A few disadvantages in the gameplay is you can't whistle, your pistol can't disable electronics, and whenever you are carrying a body, you have to put it down before opening a door. I bought mine from "BPSHOPZONE", and game came in perfect condition (factory sealed). ... show more

  • Good stealth game, goes back to the roots
Platform For Display: PC Download
I played this game purely because I am a fan of the Splinter Cell series. That said,I dislike the new turn Sam has taken since Conviction. I miss that feel of being the black-clad spy who deftly dodges guards, cameras and laser trips whilst silently advancing to his objective. That was the Sam I loved. And I'd hoped this game would take me back to him.Needless to say, it did: that too in a back-then-Sam-was-like-this kind of way. SC maybe not be as good as Chaos Theory (especially since CT is armed with Amon Tobin's music) but it definitely brings out the stealthy spy in you. P.S.: I hope you'll enjoy the CIA level and the Presidential Palace. Both are tough and complement each other in stealth tactics. Lastly, expect a cool bit of cinematic style gameplay with Sam.Today's games that stumble over each other to ape that celluloid feel could take a leaf from this game. Not once did I feel that I was not playing a game; yet the cinematic edge was always apparent (and appreciated). ... show more

  • Major Mark in Gaming History

The first Splintercell this seemed like an unreal game for me when I first got it. They had Micheal Ironside as Sam Fisher who I recognized from movie. The graphics couldn't be compared to any other game. To me it had a great plot and some minor flaws but the game was enjoyable none the less.

  • Can't get past training
Platform For Display: PC Download
On a PC with a keyboard this game is in fact broke and useless. Do not waste your money. It may work with a controller on the PC but with keyboard (my setup), you are unable to climb the first wall in the training mission. Ah well. At least it was on sale. If there was a less than 1 star I would give it. ... show more

  • Talk about suspenseful
Platform For Display: PC Download
I only rate it 4 stars because I expected a bit more action, but I realize that is probably my fault for not investigating more on the game, I mean, the description does say "Stealth Action Redefined" *sigh*, anyway, The game is good, the weapons are simple, the missions though, wow, they're a freaking spiderweb, you can pretty much take 2 or 3 different routes to complete mission, which is hard at first. I had to play it a couple of times on easy to get it, hehehehehe. I mean that whole make-a-wrong-move-and-set-off-the-alarm deal all throughout the game, dang! Had me by the seat of my pants! If you like stealth, this game is it, If you like all out shoot-em-all-dead games, then no, get something else. =) ... show more
