  • Safely elevate microphone rigs 13-14 feet in the air
Audio folks, why let video shooters have all the fun?! I suspend a three microphone Decca tree about 10 feet in the air above the conductor's head for choral and orchestral recording. A recent challenge was to suspend the rig slightly from the side to keep the center aisle clear. This 12 foot jib has worked very well, a very steady and surprisingly unobtrusive solution. I highly recommend to audio colleagues as a boom stand on steroids. The tripod base is a heavy speaker stand rated for at least a 100 pound load. Pinning the center adjustable shaft at the fourth hole (out of five) lifts the jib to just under 6 feet (depending on how wide the legs are positioned). The jib fulcrum is set back at 2.5 feet, leaving 9.5 feet to be arced into the air. This provides 13 to 14 feet of total height, plenty for my needs. It takes 35 pounds of weight plates (not included) to balance the unloaded jib and 85 pounds to balance the maximum 10 pound load. The 30 pound jib + 85 pounds of weight plates + a 10 pound load = 125 pounds total weight on the tripod stand. This has been safe and steady for me. I made three modifications. First, the bar that holds the weights is a 6 inch 3/8 inch threaded bolt; I replaced with a 12 inch 1/2 inch jag bolt to beef up the rigidity and provide more weight plate elbow room. The fulcrum pin was only a 1/4 inch threaded bolt, which seems a little thin for a 125 pound load, so I replaced with another 1/2 inch jag bolt. Finally, I installed a tilt brake (ProAm tilt brake, ~$20 from Amazon) to gently hold the balanced jib in place once elevated. And, yep, you'll need a bag to transport. Tripod and jib are all aluminum, bolts are steel. Wobble and stability from movement are not really a concern as I set and forget, I don’t pan and tilt on the fly like video folks. Lifting the mics from the side keeps the rig away from center aisle foot traffic, a definite safety advantage. For about $250, this jib is a great addition to my audio kit. ... show more

  • My first "Sport Touring" tire
First I must be fair and say I am a Dunlop guy through and through. I had Dunlops for 27,000 miles on my last bike and Michelins for ~500 before totaling it. That said, I just got a "new to me" 1995 FZR1000. I use it for commuting 80 miles a day. So far, this tire is EXCELLENT. I hit the road at 5:30am and even cold the tires grip well. I could feel the previous Bridgestone BT-016's slip in the same corners at slower speeds. They track well on the freeway, even with water grooves, and held their own very well the couple times I got caught in the rain on them. I have a little over 1000 miles on them now and they dont seem to show much wear. I will update how well they last. Edit (06/12/12): I now have over 6000 miles on the tires and they don't show any major signs of wear. I have no idea how long these tires will last but I would have already killed 1.5 Bridgestones. They grip well enough to allow me to have no "chicken stripes" on my tires and are so predictable that an intersection I go through daily while "just" catching the green (left turn) I can roll on the power while leaned over and spin/slide the tire through the exit. hahaha. LOVE THEM!! Edit (02/19/13) I have about 17,000 miles on them and still going strong. A little flat in the center for but thats to be expected with that kind of straight up riding. I can't wait for them to wear so I can buy another set. ... show more

  • This rug is a win-win, you will be satisfied with it!
I am in the process of changing my home decor to the farmhouse style. This rug works very well with my new, emerging style! I ordered this rug because it was slightly larger than the others, mainly if there is any shrinkage when I launder the rugs, it will still be a generous size. The quality and durability appears to be superior for this this type of rug. The rug cannot be considered thin, but it does not have anything to prevent slipping or tripping. I ended up purchasing a rubber mat that has a layer of felt on the top side. The felt portion is very rough and has a gritty feel, so it grabs the rug really well and keeps it in place. This rug is a win-win, you will be very satisfied with it! ... show more

  • Just what I needed and ordered
We recently upgraded campers from one running on 30 AMP service to one on 50 AMP, so I needed a way to plug the new camper into 110 at the house to run the lights and fridge as we pack for trips. This product is exactly what I needed. The only issue I run into is that once it is plugged into the outlet on the side of the house the combination of the weight of the female side of this adapter and the male side and power cord are too heavy to keep it from unplugging itself. It was an easy fix by connecting a string through the handle on the adapter and a hook on the side of the house. My only suggestion for proline would be to make a version of this where the cord hangs at 90 degrees down from the 110 plug. Other than that, this is a great product. ... show more

  • The photos do not do these dice justice.
I’ve been attending DnD sessions every 2 weeks for the past few years and I’ve built a decent collection. These dice were the first I’ve ordered that came with both a carrying pouch and tin case (the dice were also individually wrapped in small bags that prevented any possible damage while they shipped). Now, about the dice. Great weight, great look, and great feel. The rustic, copper is by far the coolest medieval looking device I’ve ever owned or seen. I’ll be rolling crit 20’s with these good, good boys for a very long time. Back to the headline, the photos of these dice caught my eye when I saw them on the site but when I got and unwrapped them I was more than satisfied! 10/10 will buy more dice from Iron Age in the future! ... show more
