  • A handsome watch with good durability and features for the price
Color: Tan/Green
I have been very impressed with this handsome little timepiece. I have been buying Timex watches on and off since the mid-1990s, and quality looks to have stayed the same in the intervening decades. The watch has a matte brass case with a stainless steel back piece (of the snap-off variety, convenient when you need a battery change), with 100 meter water resistance, which is quite good in this price range. The 12mm thickness is a bit on the bulky side, but not too bad. The watch has a nice heft/weight to it, and feels quite solid. The leather strap is thick and has a nice softly-sueded feel to it. The chronograph is only adequate as it only goes up to 30 minutes. However, due to the smaller second hand, you don’t get the annoying ticking sound of Timex’s non-Chronograph offerings. At 42mm diameter (with a 52mm lug-to-lug length), the watch is right at the upper limit for my 6.25ish inch wrist. What saves it from looking too large is that it has a somewhat thicker bezel and the dial itself is only about 35mm, so it doesn’t take up the whole surface of the wrist. It’s a tool watch anyway, so it’s permissable to wear them larger. If you want a smaller watch, look at the Weekender Chronograph. Aesthetics-wise, I chose the green/tan colorway and love the forest green dial in combination with the tan strap, which has a bit more of an orange undertone. It has an outdoorsy look without sacrificing elegance. My one complaint would be the readability could be improved. A chronograph dial is already somewhat busy, but the words “EXPEDITION” and “CHRONOGRAPH” are the same color and roughly same size as the hands and easy to confuse with the hands upon first look. There is also no lume on the hands at all. Sure you have the Indiglo feature, but the Expedition Chronograph Field version of this watch has lume. I would say the Weekender Chronograph has a more readable face overall, but not enough to be a dealbreaker if you like the Expedition Scout. I had no issues setting the watch, although the lack of a clear “click” in the crown makes it feel a bit janky when you’re pulling it out to set the minute hand. It almost feels like you have to pull it out too far to the point of breaking it. Some people are reporting their chronograph hands didn’t line up exactly. Mine thankfully zeroed perfectly. ... show more

  • A few minor niggles, but for the cost a solid watch
Color: Tan/Green
I bought this watch because I thought I lost my Timex Weekender Chrono (found it in an unexpected place). I missed the other watch too much, so I ordered this one overnight (the weekend had a delivery date of 1 week out). From the photos, it looked like the buttons might be better than on the weekender (they are better). The seconds hand start at 2 for the chronograph. The face is slightly larger and it looks huge on my arm, even though its only 2mm larger. I am not excited about the band either...the band that came on the Weekender is much better for my smaller wrist. However....I love the color of the seconds hand (orange), it really stands out against the darker green face as do the hour & minute hands. In fact, the whole dial face has a better contrast than the Weekender and is much easier to read. This is the watch I would choose if I was playing dress up. I could see this watch be in my collection longer than the Weekender. ... show more

  • 3 Year Review.
Color: Tan/Green
I purchased the Timex Expedition chronograph in 2018 and have worn it every day to work and most of the weekend. Overall the watch has been great and still looks sharp. Working in television I have house clocks that are synced across the country as well as internationally. Once a week I compare my Timex to our house clocks and it's dead on, to the second. At the end of the day, a watch is a tool to tell time and is useless of it can't. This watch has performed fabulously. The indiglo function has worked very well with no issues as well as the chronograph function. It's fun to see all three dials sweep across the face to line back up, kids love it. The leather strap is comfortable and has worn well over the past 3 years. I've worn it in all types of weather and temperatures and haven't had an issue. The green on brown and overall package has yielded me many compliments over the years. However, it's not without it's shortcomings. The second hand (6 o'clock chronograph dial) lands slightly off of the marks and the chronograph second hand could move over a millimeter to be in perfect alignment. It comes with a movable and sewn-in strap keep that one has fallen off and the other is splitting. Outside of that the strap as been fine. At this rate, the crystal is in great shape, there's some patina on the case and it keeps excellent time - I see myself keeping this watch for a while. Also it's on the same battery from when new. Overall I feel that I get a great value for the money and a proud American brand. ... show more
