  • ... this watch for several weeks now and reading several poor reviews before I purchased I thought it was time ...
Color: Green Slip-Thru
After having this watch for several weeks now and reading several poor reviews before I purchased I thought it was time for my personal experience with this watch. So far it has been a very positive experience. I've had no trouble whatsoever with it. It keeps great time, the band is very well made and comfortable, the hardware has held up to daily wear and the Indiglo feature works great. I read in some negative reviews that the Indiglo feature stopped working after a few hours to a few days. That has not been my experience. I've beat this watch in my everyday work life and everything still works as normal. I also read several reviews that complained about the dark area in the Indiglo feature at 6 o'clock on the dial. That is normal and part of the design of the feature. It in no way interferes with the function of the Indiglo. I also read some negative comments about the strap becoming frayed at the holes and edges. I have a simple fix for that. Take a lighter and singe the holes and the edge of the band and you will not have anymore frayed edges. For the money this is a well made rugged watch. If you are on the fence it is my experience that this is a great value and no worries should be given to the negative comments you read. Besides, if there is a problem Amazon will make it right. Good luck and buy with confidence. ... show more

  • Avoid. Failed In 3 Weeeks and "Warranty Service" Somehow Isn't Free
All I was looking for here was an inexpensive watch (cheap enough that I wouldn't have to feel too bad when I broke it though abuse) that looked reasonable and kept adequately good time. This watch certainly was cheap and does look very reasonable, in fact it exceeded my expectations on this front. The face is legible and attractive, the proportions pleasant, and the backlight really superb. The nylon band is pretty grody-looking after four weeks of working construction with it on my wrist, but you'll have that. However, the timekeeping is awful. Out of the box it ran a little bit slow, maybe a minute a day. By the end of the second week it was five minutes. Three weeks in, it's in a death spiral, losing over 20 minutes yesterday. Today it has lost 5 minutes in the two hours I've been awake. I checked out the warranty service from Timex and they want $8 as a "service fee," on top of the postage cost to send them my watch. Timex, I hate to tell you this, but charging your customers for repairs is outside of the normal definition of "warranty." To me, warranty means an assurance that if there is a problem with the merchandise it will be remedied at the seller's expense. ... show more

  • I want to love it, but two in a row were defective.
Great looking watch and I wish it worked. I like the style, the band, the case, etc. It's exactly what I was looking for, however.... First watch arrived in what appeared to be used condition. While the outside shipping box was in perfect shape, the timex box inside the bigger box looked like it had been opened and the watch was not on the plastic pedestal that comes with the packaging. Upon inspection the watch date and time were already set to eastern standard time; further inspection revealed the illumination feature was broken. I assume this was returned, not inspected, and resent out to me on accident. I contacted amazon, sent the watch back, and they mailed me a new one on a rush order. Watch #2 arrived in perfect shape. It was on the pedestal and it had a little plastic guard on the stem between the crown and the case which was a promising sign! On Day 2 I noticed the date was off by one day so I assumed I set the watch up incorrectly and didn't have it on the right cycle for am/pm. Fast forward a few days later and now the watch isn't holding time. Today it is 30 mins slower than the actual time. While I am not sure when this happened I know it happened within the past 24 hours. It really makes me question if these are legitimate Timex watches or if they are knock offs? ... show more

  • Comfortable, rugged, and utilitarian.
Color: Green Slip-Thru
Timex Men's TW4B04700 Expedition Scout Green Nylon Slip-Thru Strap Watch I loved this watch to death when I got it. I was obsessed with the aesthetic, and to make things better I didn't even know there was a backlight feature to see in the dark until after I bought it! However, the reason it's rated 4 stars instead of 5 is because I had to keep readjusting the time more frequently than I would have really liked. Not noticeable at first, but the longer you have it, the quicker it becomes out of sync with the correct time. Eventually, the hands just stopped working, or would freeze for random amounts of time. In conclusion, for the time that it worked correctly (let's estimate a year or so, minus maybe a few months) it was phenomenal, it just didn't last nearly as long as I had hoped. ... show more

  • tells time real good
Color: Green Slip-Thru
First one of these plain-GI-Jane Timex's I ever bought was at the tiny, windowless commissary during basic training reception in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in June of 2000. Reception is a kind of purgatory where you're cleansed of your civilian sensibilities before beginning to be molded into a lean, mean, fighting machine. You form up and wait with no instruction besides not moving and not speaking. You will not sniffle, cough or fidget, and if you must sneeze then chances are you're going to be a mediocre soldier in the long run. Each recruit gets a little shopping list for the commissary, and I for one received my first debit card linked to an account with actual money in it! Just another odd series of events during reception and it the shopping list in hand includes things like shower shoes, a sheath for your toothbrush and a watch. There are no options as far as colors and brands, so what you see is what you get. My first Timex lasted me years! So I knew it was a good little bugger. Since then, I've purchased several iterations of this same watch, and it always dutifully tells the time. It can't really do anything else besides emit a little glow at night, but that's all I need it for. Thank you Timex, for keeping time. ... show more
