  • Very good for what they are
Size: 13 Color: Black
These boots are comfortable. They fit nicely and feel good under foot. The insoles aren't the best but can be switched out easily if needed. Another plus is that they look pretty nice. I currently have the black ones. I used to have wheat ones but I sadly left them in a hotel room on a business trip. I liked the wheat better, but bought black replacements because I didn't have any black boots and wanted a little variety. They do a nice job keeping my feet warm when it's cold. That isn't to say that they aren't good to wear in warm weather too, but they are especially nice in the cold. They are very nice to walk in, wearing more like a sneaker than other boots I own and wear regularly (Thorogood, Irish Setter, Rockrooster, etc). I find that when I'm going for a casual walk or a short hike, these are the shoes I most often reach for. The outsole is sturdy enough with a good lug pattern that digs in nicely to whatever terrain you find yourself trudging through. There are a couple of things I don't like. First, the outsole is cemented on rather than welted so once the sole is worn out they are pretty much trash. However they do seem to be cemented well as the sole really holds on well. Still, cemented construction isn't my favorite but that's not the end of the world at this price point. The leather quality seems okay, but definitely not anything amazing. Still, there is a good amount of leather on these boots and for the money it's better than most. All in all, I am rating these as 5 star boots. To qualify, I am not comparing them to my Thorogood boots or Irish Setter boots. They are in a different category altogether for me. I'm putting them up against tennis shoes and mid range hiking boots. They are very good in that space. They are similar and on par with some Keens and Ariats I have worn in the past, but are a little less expensive. I'd say they are easily worth the $80 to $100 most people will pay but I wouldn't pay much more than that. They have the feel of a $100 to $120 boot so for less than $100 they are a pretty good value. I would certainly buy these again but next time I'm going back to the wheat color because I did prefer those. The Nubuck leather they are made with seems to be a little higher quality too. ... show more

  • Great Boots !!
Size: 11 Wide Color: Dark Brown
I am Very surprised and pleased with this pair of boots. I needed waterproof boots for rain and snow. I live on a dirt road and just walking the dogs is 5 miles per day. In bad weather that is miserable to say the least. I did break them in slowly and did use mink oil when they were new and maybe a quick touch up every couple weeks. First real test was a week ago in POURING rain on top of snow that was already on the ground. Much better traction on ice than expected without wearing “Yak tracks.” Zero problems or leaks, soaked on the outside dry on the inside, just what waterproof means ! I can’t address “real” hiking going up and down Etc. however for mostly flat, snow, or muddy fields no problems. The only (minor) ding I have is I need to double knot the laces because the seem to always “untie” for some reason. RECOMMENDED !! ... show more

  • Good lightweight half-boot for the price...
Size: 10 Wide Color: Wheat
The purchase was made in "wheat" color. I am beyond my working man years (retired), but this was a good purchase for my intents. The color almost makes me feel kinda 'hip' (Amusing to me; there have been compliments - or, better still - comments. When you get old, it's a pleasure when anyone notices anything you do...something to ponder). I have owned several pair of work boots through my life. The best-of-the-best have been those in which the uppers were married to the soles by stitching. This boot is not that, but in a true work environment, you may get a couple of years of use; for the price...good enough. The only complaint that I may voice, is that padding around the ankle is a bit much. It will take a while to break-in to my satisfaction. The designers could have gone with half the thickness. But, you may not find that in the reviews...may be that it's just me. Good product...I'm pleased. ... show more

  • Great Comfort Out Of The Box
Size: 9 Color: Dark Brown
While I've only had these boots a few weeks now, I can already tell that they are the right fit for me. Out of the box, the comfort was unbelievable as they fit true and weren't too rigid. The break-in time on these has been very minimal. I've worn them daily since they've arrived and given them a decent walk each day at work and around home. They're still "new" though but I imagine by the time I hit the trails, I won't have any issues but do plan on revisiting this in 5-6 months. They are true to size, as I wear a 9, ordered a 9 and they fit perfectly. Possibly a tad snug, but that is alright for me, just know that if you want to allow for a thicker sock or adding an insole that may be bigger, you might want to go up a size. I was recommended these as a first hiking boot by a co-worker and I couldn't be more pleased. They've kept my feet warm during a brief cold spell and dry during a few days of rain that we've had, which included me having to walk through some holes of water to get in the house. Hopefully that will continue to remain true. I bought them on sale and feel that $70 price is definitely a sweet spot for these boots, so if they fit your budget, I'd recommend the purchase. ... show more
