  • Absolutely a must for LGA 1700 socket!
Color: Black
After reading and spending more time on research, I realized that there's been reports that using Intel's stock ILM may cause CPU to be bent or caused deformation over time which lead thermal paste to be spread widely, and thus the cooler has trouble making direct contact to the IHS. As a result, it caused CPU temp to spike up like crazy over time, thus making the CPU itself run so hot, no matter which cooler you've installed. Thankfully, I was fortunate that I have finally purchased Bending Correct Frame aka Contact Frame which was very easy & simple to install onto my ASUS Apex Encore Z790 Motherboard and fits no problem with Intel Core i9-14900KS. Yes, you must keep your CPU onto the socket to prevent damaging the pins, but also vital to keep your original ILM screws to be installed as well as the backplate which needs to sit behind the motherboard. It's important to remember to never overtighten the screws to prevent not only damaging the pins but also the PCB. Once it's done, you simply apply thermal paste, install the cooler like NH-D15 G2, and you're good to go! As a result, CPU temp went down significantly for about 5-10 Celsisus on average, depending on the app you run with. I've experienced zero crash, no artifacts, nothing! It was very easy and simple to install the contact frame, compared to 1mm Shim Washer which is very difficult to install onto the Z790 Motherboard since the ILM screws itself was too short, otherwise buy contact frame. It's cheaper and inexpensive. All in all, I highly recommend buying contact frame to not only prevent CPU bent deformation but also you give you much better direct contact between IHS and heatsink in order to disperse as much heat as possible! ... show more

  • What a nice tool! Great job Thermalright!
Color: Black
Sadly I do not have any before/after numbers to share as I installed the frame before the first boot. However, what I can say is that the temps on my 12900K are absolutely phenomenal. Setup: Sitting in a 74F room, cooled by a H100i Capellix XT set as top exhaust inside a Corsair 4000D Airflow with 3x 120mm fans up front. Motherboard is a Strix Z690-E. Load temps were measured using Apex Legends. My idle temps on both the P and E cores average around 18-25C. Load temps under gaming with Windows 11 power plan set to High performance, the max temp I have recorded is around 72C which was very obviously a spike when launching the game. Minus the spike the game hovers in the high 50's to mid 60's temp range. Phenomenal cooling as my old 9900K would average easily in the mid 70's. I have no doubt the contact frame is attributing to the better temps as the 12900K is a very hot running chip. Other small things to praise, the contact frame is built super well. Very refined and smooth edges and a seamless installation (please watch Gamers Nexus video on installation). Thermalright also provides a tube of thermal paste, which I find to be a nice gesture. Overall, this is basically a must have for any 12th and 13th gen owners. No reason at all to get the Thermal Grizzly for like double the price. Great work Thermalright, you guys are winners! ... show more

  • Easy Install and Seems to Work
Color: Black
I'll start off with stating I didn't try to see how hot it would get without installing the frame. After watching a few of the videos about the potential issue with the 12900k I didn't want to take any chances. I originally was going to go with a more expensive brand, but after I watched a Gamers Nexus video about this frame I decided to give it a shot. It cost well below the more expensive one and seemed like it would do the trick. The processor I replaced was a 9900k I'd had for a few years. I had bought a NZXT Kraken X73 I'd used with the 9900k and had to wait on the mounting bracket for the LGA 1700. Since I was waiting on the bracket I decided to order the frame. Bottom line is if you follow the Gamers Nexus video you will have no problem installing this frame properly and shouldn't have any issues with the processor getting too hot. I added tick marks to the screws and turned them in 90 degree increments until it was tightened. So my current build is a i9-12900k with a MSI Z690 MPG Edge Wifi DDR4 with a NZXT Kraken X73 in a Fractal Design Meshify 2 case. I have the radiator at the front and three CM120 exhaust fans at the top and a 140mm rear exhaust. The current stock idle temps are between 25C-30C. This was run at stock settings and as you can see in the very limited run of Cinebench, and the temps it was getting, the 12900k is capable of working at decent temps. I did play some World of Warcraft and didn't notice any temps to be concerned with. Again, I've not tested it without the frame, and seeing the issues others have had, this seemed like a cheap preventive fix. I highly recommend this option if you are concerned with the potential heat issues with this CPU. My only complaint with this product is that it looks very good and is completely hidden under your cooler. I went with the black one since it wouldn't be seen. ... show more
