Description

The Thermacell Lookout Mosquito Repellent Camp Lantern repels bothersome mosquitoes, allowing any outdoor gathering or experience to be more enjoyable. This item was recommended to me by my son-in-law. I was skeptical because I usually use the citronella candles, but I purchased this to try it out. I am a mosquito attraction! I am also allergic to their bites and they itch horribly, swell up then stay for days. I read the directions and set it up 15 minutes before I actually went out to enjoy my patio. It works!! Not one bite. The only negative thing is; when you click the start the *orange glow" is not very visible in lighted areas. I wasn't really sure it was lighted untill I felt the warmth from the top. I would definitely recommend this item for keeping an area free from mosquitoes. Oh! Let's not forget that this is also a very bright lantern that can be on with or without the repellent. There is no scent unless you get very close. This lantern can be placed on a picnic table or hung above the table with the attached handle.     • Keeps the Mosquitoes Away
I have serious allergy reactions to mossie bites , unlike some, huge swelling and the itching is TORTURE , takes weeks to just get rid of one bite sometimes. Now i don't have to live in bug spray and can chill out in the garden peacefully

I've used the lantern for about 2 to 3 hours, once a week, every Sunday night, for about 6 weeks now and I'm still on the first fuel cell and second repellant mat. I turn it on right about sunset, so it's had time to warm up by dusk, and then typically don't need it anymore by a couple hours after dark. I keep it on or sometimes under the patio table, but across from me, so maybe 5 feet away from where I'm sitting, so I can't speak to it's efficacy at greater range, but at that distance I've had excellent results. I think some people see 15 feet and think that means they can be 15 feet away from it, and that's just not how it works. It's 15 feet diameter, so it's really only meant to be used from within 7.5 feet of the device. The mosquitos have been really bad in our area this year, and I've been taking a lot of measures to try to decrease the habitability of my yard for them, but even with all my efforts, it's been the worst summer for mosquitoes in the 4 years I've lived here, but once I turn on the thermacel and let it run for 10 or 15 minutes, I don't get bit again. ... show more

I was skeptical but it seemed like it actually worked. I got the butane version and we used it for a couple hours for two nights. Had to replace the pad after the first night but the butane was still going after the second night. We could see mosquitoes flying around but not close to us. And my wife is usually a mosquito magnet. I will add that I don't think this will work if there is a breeze or wind. We had basically no wind in the woods so it was perfect. ... show more

I have 2 other Thermacells, one personal/small one, and another table top. Those work fine, they are very hard to see that they are lit but they work. I bought this one for a family member while visiting their house out of state and it took until our last day of a weeks' worth of travel to show up, When it did, it was a complete disappointment, the bottom battery door can't stay closed and requires tape to keep the batteries inside the unit. The construction of the lantern feels very cheap and fragile, not at all happy with this model. The on/off switch on the top feels like it is going to fall apart and is brand new, I would never trust this to be used on a camping or hunting trip, much less carefully sitting in a backyard porch, it is not going to be rugged enough to last one season, guaranteed. Very disappointed in Thermacell for putting out this shoddy version of their products. I would have returned it already but this was a gift to my inlaws who do not have a computer or printer and cannot easily process a return. Now they're stuck with it until it finally falls apart completely. ... show more

    • Thermoelectric lantern doesn’t always keep mosquitos away
In the past, I had handheld portable Thermocell units which worked as described, but the manufacturer changed all models that now don’t do the job of keeping mosquitos away (not even inches away from the unit much less than the 15 feet claimed). Even without a wind, this unit and the new handheld portable units did not keep them away. They were operating properly with the glow and the pads turned white when used up, but the repellent did nothing to the mosquitos. The manufacturer needs to go back to the old style that worked, or did I miss the new environmental law that put mosquitos on the endangered species list by the WOK crowd.
