  • Ultralight comes at a price: durability.
Style: Large - 26 X 77 Inches
I do like the combination of features in this product, with one exception: the plastic feet. With all the engineering into making a mylar ripstop sheet and extremely lightweight poles and crossbeams, I am very disappointed in the durability of the feet. I feel that they could have been manufactured much stronger. The twisted double crossbeam specifically is what caused them to break, in this case. As a general rule, materials that can resist one kind of stress do not handle other kinds well. ABS plastic, which these feet seem to be made of, handled the compressive load of my body resting on the cot well, but the relatively tiny torsion stress from the twisted crossbeams compounded with me suddenly shifting my weight caused the foot to snap in two. The cracks propagated from the two holes for the crossbeams. This cot seemed to have been designed to answer the question "what is the bare minimum needed to support a sleeping body?" All well and good as an engineering problem, but it requires carefully lowering yourself onto it and a minimum of careless movement. I had assembled the cot FOUR times previously to test my ability to set it up quickly. And the foot broke on the fifth test. This product does not deal well with surge loading. At all. That aside, it is very light, very warm and easy to assemble, if somewhat tedious. But I'm willing to trade a few extra pounds for some much needed additional durability. Competing products, as far as I'm aware, don't have the same issue with parts breakage. Not only that, they are faster to assemble and can handle loads better while being cheaper and only a few pounds heavier. For the person who absolutely must have the lightest possible load, just be aware that it comes at the cost of durability. You NEED to have spare parts for this on hand. I'll be keeping this in a closet in case of emergencies, and hoping that Therm-a-Rest will put out an updated design with more durable parts. ... show more

  • A pretty good cot, with one significant flaw
Style: Large - 26 X 77 Inches
Overall, this is a pretty good little cot. It is easy to set up and tear down, and fairly comfortable (for what it is). The one flaw is the little plastic foot pieces. Now granted, I am close to the stated weight limit of this cot , but I had to be VERY careful in how I lay down onto it, how I shifted weight around while on it, and also shifting weight in getting up off the cot, because the little plastic foot pieces will break. And if one breaks, there is more weight on the remaining ones so they are more likely to break. By the end of a 10 day trip I was down to 4 useable support setups (out of starting set of 6). My advise would be if you decide to oder one to go ahead and order a repair kit with it. Cant stress enough that other than that I was quite impressed with this cot, and I am a novice camper who has always struggled to get a good comfortable sound night's sleep while camping ... show more

  • Comfortable, not durable
Style: Large - 26 X 77 Inches
I bought this because I was never comfortabke on my inflatable pad and also because that pad developed a slow leak that left me sleeping on snow. Pros: Extremely comfortable. Shape of cot makes it so you will not slip off the end or sides if the ground isn't level. Light enough to be a tolerable addition to backpacking gear. Being off the ground allows you to set up in areas that are too rough or uneven for a traditional pad, and keeps you out of the water if it happens to run through your site. Cons: Heavier than any sleeping pad. Would probably punch holes in a tent floor. Very inconvenient to assemble and dissasemble in the field. Somehow even less durable than an inflatable pad. This cot was amazing for tarp camping, right up until I ripped the fabric by putting too much pressure in one spot while getting out. I only got four outings with it, and I was already getting nervous about how chewed up the fabric was looking at the leg joints. To be fair, though, that's not where it ripped This cot is too unreliable for backpacking and too fragile for car camping. I'm just going to try and find a thick inflatable instead of replacing it. I might get another cot for motorcycle camping because they're so comfortable, but it won't be this one. ... show more

  • Light but uncomfortable and delicate
Style: Regular - 24 X 72 Inches
I have a fair amount of ultralight gear. Often to make gear ultralight some sacrifices have to be made regarding comfort or durability, that's fine. However, I set this up once and the fabric already was stretching around the holes for the supports. It appeared it would rip very easily. Like I said, I have lots of ultralight gear and I'm careful with it. This cot would not last if taken backpacking or car camping, even if you're careful. WORSE... it's not comfortable! The whole point of a cot is comfort. If I didn't need comfort I could just sleep on the ground. So comfort is a deal breaker. The issue with this cot is that the head section droops when you rest your head on it. There's no way I could sleep like that with my head subtly lower than my body. For reference, I'm 6' tall and 170 lbs. I didn't try sleeping on my side but I don't think this cot would be up to the task. COMPARED TO the Helinox Cot Lite which is only a few ounces heavier, this was: 1. Way harder to assemble (the helinox uses shock cord to keep the supports connected so you don't have to put them together each time) 2. Less comfortable by far 3. Less stable feeling. I can get on and off the Helinox without being careful or gentle. 4. Less durable. The Helinox seems bullet proof for being ultralight gear. I expect it to last forever if I'm not an idiot. 5. Louder. The material makes lots of noise when you move around on it or sit down. Helinox is quiet. 6. Maybe warmer. It seems like the fabric will reflect heat. That is a small advantage over the helinox 7. Cheaper. I think this was a little less money at the time. ... show more
