  • The Walker - Woody Harrelson
This is a very under-rated movie. Harrelson is a tour de force in this role as the escort to Washington's wives of the famous. All of the actors play their roles well - jaded and with more than two faces - trying to find ways of filling endless amounts of free time. Absent big wig husbands, on the take... wives constantly redecorating their posh but empty homes. The seedy seamy underbelly of Washington has been well known from the beginning, but today's players run the game even more ruthlessly and murder is not at all uncommon. Gay men have always played into these themes on the sidelines as "walkers" - in and out of D.C. But in D.C. the player must be wise to the machinations of false politics, deception, and pretension. A great movie if you really look at it. ... show more

  • Note to filmmakers: Wait for the right guy
When you have a role that is perfect for Philip Seymour Hoffman, do not go forward with your project until he is available. This film is tragically compromised by a mistake in casting. Woody Harrelson is not only miscast, he is hopelessly outclassed by the women surrounding him. Mr. Harrelson goes though his role as if he is afraid his makeup will crack -- his face is expressionless from first frame to last. Or perhaps his wig is too tight. As for script and direction -- dull, duller, dullest. At no point did I feel drawn in to the story. Avoid this huge disappointment of a film. ... show more

  • Woody Harrelson's picture
I disliked the obligatory left wing Hollywood BS aspects of this movie BUT Woody Harrelson does an outstanding job as Car, the insider who knows he is the quintessntial outsider. Harrelson portrays an attractive, sophisticated gay man who is dignified, loyal, and amusing to the people around him. He is unfailingly polite and in one telling moment describes his unrelenting good manners as a response to chaos. Harrelson does not camp up the role and is entirely believable as an individual at war with himself over his sexuality even while acknowledging it. When placed in a crisis situation he remains true to his own sense of morality and does not give up the friend who betrays him in order to save herself. He also does not give in to self-pity as his so-called friends desert him in order to avoid asssociation with scandal. Instead he relies on himself to discover the truth and extricate himself from the effort of others, including his liberal associates, to frame him for murder. It was interesting to see Lily Tomlin and Lauren Bacall,in their small parts as powerful DC matrons but Kristin Scott Thomas, was a little bit too much of a drip to have inspired such loyalty from a smart man who is not in love with her. That said, Harrelson's subtle and intelligent portrayal is worth the price of the movie - and worth re-watching for his performance alone. ... show more

  • Another view of government nonsense.
The Walker--Woody Harrelson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Lauren Bacall, Ned Beatty---great group of stars. One of Mr, Harrelson's opportunities to act as he is capable. Story of the superficial trappings of the life of the political crowd. Marvelous company of stars, good script and a job well done to provide you with decent entertainment that has dialogue worth listening to. Good movie. ... show more

  • Just didn't do anything for me
The storyline was sleep inducing. In fact, everything was boring to me. Anytime l want to sleep, forget the sheep, just watch this instead, this or pro golf, or the movie Clue. All 3 have been proven to work and no side fx.

  • I wanted to watch it because of the cast...all my faves. But, it actually had an ok story line, also.
Nobody seems to take the 'walkers' in Washington, DC too seriously. He'll take the ladies to the opera or the ballett and the husbands appreciate that. But, no kudos for that. One routine day, after the girls have a game or two of bridge, Woody Harrelson drops Kristen Scott Thomas off at a friend's place and as soon as she went in, she turned and came back out. Pale and not too steady, she tells Harrelson her friend has been murdered. Once the police are brought in, they seem to like Harrelson for the crime. It's an accepted way of life to believe a woman's version of finding the body if her husband has power in Washington. But, Kristen Scott Thomas is more surprised to find that Woody is covering for her and put up with the police leaning on him. ... show more

  • Woody The Walker
Excellent story on the Washington cesspool of pedaled influences and personality types. The viewpoint is seen the from the stance of the blue haired society set. Lauren Bacall appears in possibly her last film appearance. Somewhat diminished, but still delivering her glorious acid wit and sarcasm which have been her trademark. The subject of the film.... Woody Harrelson plays a ladies companion who happens to be gay. You get the impression that he has had experiences on both sides of the fence, so to speak, but his preference is made known by a relationship with a lover....There is a scene in which he gives his lover a peck on the mouth, and it's convincingly done. WELL DONE WOODY. The film's suspense element is intense and is a player in the film.....no spoilers here....Get the dvd while you can. It's getting old so it may drop off the list soon..... ... show more
