Mama's Family, the delightfully offbeat TV comedy whose successful run spanned from 1983 to 1990, originally began as a skit on the legendary Carol Burnett Show. From the first time the wildly-popular sketch "The Family" aired on "The Carol Burnett Show" in 1974, Vicki Lawrence has been followed by a buxom, blue-haired, purse-lipped, 65-year-old widow. This is, of course, Thelma Mae Crowley Harper, Lawrence's indelible, abrasive and smart alecky alter ego who would eventually be spun-off into her own delightfully offbeat sitcom "Mama's Family," which debuted on NBC on January 22, 1983 and ran for six seasons. Set in the fictional city of Raytown, MAMA'S FAMILY revolves around the eye- opening escapades of the Harper clan, headed by formidable matriarch, Mama Harper, a fiery-tempered no-nonsense woman who does not suffer fools gladly. In fact, she makes everybody suffer a little with her patented snappy retorts that truly put the "diss" in dysfunction. Across 130 episodes viewers were treated to family comedy of the highest degree.     • Love Mama's Family! Can't wait for the remaining 4 seasons!
I've loved Mama's Family ever since growing up in the 80s! And I think Vicki Lawrence is such a talent - love to watch her! And I love it when there is a great value: getting two DVD sets (two seasons) in one go! I already knew that when they re-released season 1, pretty much uncut, it was going to be a great product. Of course it's 100 times better than the first issuing! Love the extras too: The extras on season 2 are phenomenal, especially the Vicki and Carol interview!!! I really hope that the remaining 4 seasons will be released individually and soon! Buying the Time-Life complete series would be more expensive for me because they do not ship internationally and I'd have to bug someone in the states to worry about s+h to Finland :-/ So, as long as the remaining 4 seasons will be available individually (why wouldn't they???) I don't mind waiting! ... show more

I have been SOOOOOO waiting to get the first 3 complete seasons. I bought, what I thought, was the complete set of Mama's Family some years ago from Star Vista. When I realized that the first 3 seasons were just the "Mama's Favorite ", I was very upset. Then I saw that this seller had the complete seasons for sale. I absolutely love, love, love this show!!! Did I say LOVE! The whole cast plays off one another to create knee slapping, belly aching laughs over and over again. What TALENT!! What COMEDIANS!! I will collect all of MAMAS FAMILY!

Comedy the way it should be. I can imagine the present generation being offended by this show but I appreciate the honest reflection of how life happens. It was made before political correction and cancel culture ever became a thing. The past where people's sense of self wasn't so fragile. I enjoy sitting back and just laughing. I bought these for my elderly mother who is unable to stream. I love the episodes that include Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman. Well worth the price.
