  • Much more than just a recipe book
What a brilliant find! Whether you are new or experienced when it comes to making homemade dog food, you will be able to find valuable tips. In addition to recipes, this book equips you with the foundational knowledge to understand dog nutrition. It is as much a guide as it is a recipe book. It covers a variety of topics such as why dog nutrition matters, the pros and cons of kibble vs home cooked food, how to transition your dog to homemade, foods to feed your dog and foods to avoid, portion sizing, and more. All the recipes are super easy to follow, and complete with nutrient and calorie information. This book has quickly become my number one guide for cooking my dog’s meals! ... show more

  • A wealth of information and detailed explanation to follow.
I absolutely love this book! You can tell the author is extremely passionate with helping our doggies live a healthy and long life. She goes into detail on what everything means as far as what certain vitamins, proteins contribute. She provides a chart on weight and what amount to feed is recommended depending on activity level, from puppies to seniors. The recipes are amazing and easy to follow and most items are things that I usually buy for us humans🤭. The book goes into detail on reading labels on kibble food if that is the route you go. I have been making homemade food for my dogs for a few months and my poor fur baby is still so itchy. Now that I know what he has a food intolerance to, I can do better. There are so many recipes in this book that have the ingredients that he can have. The author has mentioned the “food carousel”. That’s what I feel like I have been on for a few months. I am jumping off that carousel and making these recipes. Best wishes to you and your fur babies. ... show more

  • Great Guide/Info
I really love how this book is non-threatening. Meaning, if anyone has done any research, there are those who are against kibble and those who are against raw or gently cooked. Ava explains all the realms of beliefs and the pros and cons in this book. She gives factual information so you can decide what suits you and your fur baby the best. This book is also an easy read, it's not too technical, it has a lightness about it. I especially like it because it's not 400 pages worth of scientific stuff to filter through. Through. It's actionable items with short and precise details. This one truly is an easy reference guide. The recipes that are included seem to have ingredients that are fairly easy to source, and the instructions are clear. I have purchased many books on how to feed dogs properly, and I will put this one at the top! ... show more

  • easy read
very easy informative read. I have a small dog and the receipts are for too much food. I need to make 1/2 of the amount. The dog enjoys them a lot.

  • The Science Behind Bow-Wow Chow
This comprehensive book about preapring home cooked meals for dogs offers PhD level information, in a very readable format. The level of detail about canine nutritional needs – from amino acids to their digestive processes -- is impressive, and the result of intensive and extensive study. There’s a lot to be learned here, with some fascinating nuggets and recipes. Bet most people owned by dogs don’t already know that ground up organic egg shells can be a healthy meal enhancement to strengthen bones and teeth…green beans can be a perfect low-cal, high-fiber snack, but never give your dogs macadamia nuts, as well as alcohol or caffeine.. Then there are the numerous, creative recipes for healthy gourmet meals such as such as salmon and beef; turkey and pumpkin; beef and sweet potato; catfish, sardines, and oats; and so much more. The author is clearly concerned about preparing the best possible food for her dogs…and for yours. ... show more

  • Good information for learning how to cook healthy meals for your dog.
The first part of this book is packed with information on the nutritional needs of dogs and how to meet those needs when cooking homemade food for them. I am new to this so I appreciated the information, as there is a lot to learn. The second part is recipes created using Balance It nutritional supplements that you add to the food. I am not currently using Balance It so I can't review the recipes, but I think if you use those particular supplements, the recipes would be helpful. Either way, the information in the first part of the book was worth my time to read, and if we decide to use the supplements I will revise my review to include the recipes. ... show more

  • Absolutely loved this guide, so thorough! :)
The media could not be loaded. So happy with the purchase of this book which is all about how to make homemade and importantly healthy food for your dogs. One of the things I liked best about it, was just how thorough it was throughout the entire book. You can tell the author has a lot of passion and knowledge about dogs and has taken the time to put together a really high quality read. This is really going to change up my game when it comes to feeding time for my dog with the ton of detailed recipes that were included. Also, can't help but commenting on the look of the book (it looks amazing!) and also it feel really high quality printing/paper which is always good to see! ... show more
