  • Very informative!
Format: Flexibound
This book is very comprehensive and detailed. I am considering my first boat purchase and know absolutely nothing about boating. This book has given me a lot of information and insight. I have purchased 4 different books about boats & boating and this one is by far the best.

  • Good Information
Format: Kindle
The book had good information. There is a lot of repetition however. I would say it’s worth a read to those that are relatively new to boating. There is quite a bit on maintenance and upkeep. I was really looking for more information on boating and use but this information is very useful and will be applied at some point. ... show more

  • Good info
Format: Flexibound
Good for boating; not for a mariner, but it is a start-up.

  • Not a manual at all, just tips.
Format: Flexibound
Very misleading title. This wasn't a total boating manual. It wasn't even a partial boating manual. It was something like 300 boating tips stacked into very thick shiny pages with lots of pictures. I'm more inclined to call this a picture book. Unfortunately, the important "manual-type" tips were portrayed in small, vague paragraphs while non-essential information took up a whole page. For example, one very important bit of information is to understand your light signals (different color combinations refer to different boat statuses). This book spends about a paragraph merely telling the reader to "know your lights." There's no information about the light combos or what they mean, just tells you to go off somewhere other than the "Total Boating Manual" to figure it out. One paragraph on that, but they spent a whole page on how to add a shower to your stern. Really? How is new construction even a part of this manual. On a positive note, the layout of the book itself was very nice and the pictures were beautiful. But this is not the book to get if you are trying to learn boating. ... show more
