Description

Prior to his death in 1993, Vincent Price was collaborating with Mr. Joel Eisner (author of the over 100,000 copy bestselling Official Batman Batbook concerning the ‘60’s Adam West Batman television series) to construct a definitive, official biography of his life and career in films. This is that book. Sanctioned by the Vincent Price Estate and daughter Victoria, THE PRICE OF FEAR is not only told through journalist Eisner’s personal interviews with Price himself but with the cooperation, direct interviews and quotes from many of those with whom Price worked with throughout his illustrious career. Before he passed away, all Vincent saw of this book was his fellow actor Peter Cushing’s heartfelt foreword. Introducing the true story of a man born within a moderately wealthy family of candy manufacturers in 1911 St. Louis, Missouri, whose interest in theatre during the Great Depression led him into eventually becoming, arguably, the most universally iconic personification of the horror genre in the entire encompassment of the 20st Century. That man was Vincent Leonard Price, Jr. What you now hold in your hands is the only authorized, official biography about Vincent Price’s entire life in films ever published in history with his direct participation and approval, in his own words. Never before has the story of Vincent’s life been told, how he rose from dramatic theatre and stage to joining the ranks of the early cultured Hollywood elite fresh from where motion pictures were first spawned to eventually spend his life behind horrifying makeup and horror genre movie roles at the sacrifice of a greater passion for fine art and comedy. For nearly a century, we’ve known the name. We’ve heard the voice. We’ve seen the many faces. At last, with The Price of Fear: The Film Career of Vincent Price, in His Own Words, we can know the man, directly from the legend himself, in this never-before-published highly entertaining and inspirational masterpiece. • Must have for a Price fan
This book is very interesting and informative and provides some little known facts about Vincent Price. There are interviews I’ve never seen before, which offer incredible insight into this wonderful actor. That being said - this book NEEDS and editor. Even autocorrect would have been an improvement over the errors allowed in this book. Constant misuse ( or disuse) of punctuation and capitalization. A few sentences that were obviously in the middle of a rewrite but never completed. Very sloppy editing of a very good book. ... show more

  • Great Vincent Price book
Well-written book about Vincent Price and his film career in his own words. I bought it as a gift for my son, a real Price fan. He loved it!

  • Not as good as it could have been
This was originally to be a films of with a bio intro, much like the authorized Lucy Chase Williams book that also got printed, but when Vincent Price died, there were stalls and complications. There is some bio stuff taken from an interview, and a lot is covered. There is no index, I had to make my own that highlights titles, as he has been in a lot of stuff, even the TVM What's a Nice Girl Like You is covered, and there are a number of never was projects listed, among them The Gold Bug, Altinai which was to co star Caroline Munro as a female werewolf, Count Dracula (he was to have played Van Helsing), Curse of the Crimson Altar, When the Sleeper Awakes, Forever Amber, The Mysterious Traveler, The Great Man Votes, The Naked Eye, The Storm, Sweethearts and Horrors, That Certain Age, and Topaz with Jane Russell. Not bad, but not as good as other books, I was a tad torn between a 3 or a 4 star rating, as there are better books on Vincent Price. If you are picky, keep that in mind. ... show more

I thought the book was excellent and gave an intimate insight into the life of Vincent Price. I met his daughter Victoria Price at the Poe Film festival in Richmond just last week and had her autograph my copy.

  • Good Review of a Great Film Career
A good review of a great film career. Focuses more on the film career than the entire life, but that's what is the most interesting.
