    • Can poetry be a Masterpiece?

I purchased this years ago and forgot to write a review. I often reread this to feel something or when I’m feeling too much. It’s like talking to a friend who is a twin flame who finally gets you bc they also have scattered thoughts and random rants and 10 side stories before they get to the point all while questioning life and identity and second guessing everything and nothing all at once and sifting between deep worry and detachment. This poetry book is proof that Lana is a writer before anything else and proves why her lyrics resonate. I’ll never get over it. Nowadays I let the audio version play on YouTube bc it’s such a comfort. “SportCruiser” is my ultimate favorite, brings me to tears. Followed closely by Salamander, My Bedroom is a Sacred Place Now, and LA Who Am I.. ... show more

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. I am a fan of Lana’s older albums but have fallen off the bandwagon on some of the newer music because it felt too “trying too hard to relate to (young) millennials going to Coachella with flower crowns on their head.” I’m around the same age as Lana so I relate to the conundrum of being in your early-ish 30s, too old to go out every night but young enough to still think or write about it. And I felt her newer music was inauthentic to her age or sort of stuck in the past. But I actually think she lives in a state of past and a state of dreams through her writing. All that to say — Violet Bent Backwards did not disappoint! She is a true poet. It’s undeniable as you follow her thoughts in this book. Some may think the content is recycled but to me it felt very authentic. I truly believe the work reflects her state of mind in the moments she was creating it. It spoke to me and felt relatable. I bought this for my daughter for Christmas this year, and I'm so excited to give it to her! This book is really cool. I wouldn't expect anything less from ol' Lana! The text is cool, because it looks like it was typed up on an old typewriter. There's also cool pics throughout the book. Towards the back of the book, there's a small section where on one page is a cool pic. On the page next to it is a blank page with lines. I'm assuming so you can write your own poetry or whatever. That's pretty cool I think. My only complaint is there's a scratch on the cover. But that's not Lana's fault! ... show more
