I was looking at Matts from $200-$800. I did not want to spend $800, not even $500, this was $300 and I wanted a good matt that would last and have a good feel. This item had great reviews and have this Brand before at Resort Golf course though I am just a Muni Dude. I got the 3X5 and was glad I did. 5x5 was more than twice as much $$ and is not needed. 4X4 would be a waste of $$ in my opinion. I am 6'2", plenty of room on this matt for all shots. You could even turn it to the 3' side and hit shots there as well. A little tight but I was doing it fine. I guess just wanted to know for my own benefit long term....could I use the other side of the Matt 10 years from now if a I wear the 5' side out. Answer is yes you can with your irons...Driver maybe not so much depending on how deep of stance you take but could do it. It is nice and heavy but one person can move it around ok. I already had a 4X6 Rubber matt to go under it...the kind you get for a large piece of exercise equipment. I think that helps it from moving much at all. Can hit 50 balls and Matt maybe moves 1/2". Of course it is not grass...but close as you will get on artificial. Balls feel great coming off and it will grab your club letting you know shot is fat. Very comfy to hit off of for your feet. I usually hit with bare feet or house slippers!

I've hit a lot of balls at the range with a variety of different mats. I reviewed and thought a lot about the various ones that are out there. It seemed to me that there are 2 different types of material that was popular - polyethelyne (sp?) and nylon. The consensus was that nylon was the better material in terms of durability. I was also concerned with the impact to my elbows and wrists. This mat is better than anything at the driving range and is easy on my joints. I can tell if I hit it fat but it's not jarring. I considered spending less for a similar product that wasn't nylon but I'm happy with my choice and would definitely buy it again.

Purchase this for my husband for his birthday. With a proper installation, this is an absolutely exceptional golf mat. We ended up measuring and digging out a square of sod in our backyard, laying down some gravel and leveling it, and then placing the mat on top. Not that you need to do this, we just did it so that it was incredibly solid and stable. I swear it's like having the range in the backyard. Now he goes out every day and hits balls over the top of the house and into the front yard.. and sometimes across the street and into the neighbors yard. He's having a blast!
