  • The One Light Smart Piano
Color: Onyx Black
I am confused there are so many that complain about this item! I’ve seen complaints about having to pay for good songs in the music part of the one app? There are free ones, but they are mostly classical & Christmas music. That being said? May I point out? I’m a 57 year old female. I took piano lessons a year at age 15 & my mother paid $15.00, for one song of sheet music! So $3.99 is a deal! I’ve also read people complain about there only being 61 keys! Really? You know that before you buy! You rarely, ever play 61 keys, if you are a beginner. You won’t need all the octtives on a piano, unless you plan to play at Carnigue Hall ! I’ve also seen complaints of being limited by playing the songs for the lighted keys at the one app. Also people complain the keys are not weighed, but fail to mention this keyboard does have touch response keys and compared to unweighted keys? I sent my first one back, with unweighted keys and no touch response, simply because I have arthritis and I couldn’t push down so hard. So! All this said? Let me start my review. I am a 57 year old female. I took piano a year at 15. I’m not really talented at musical instruments. However! I love this keyboard. I am sick & disabled I’m home every day. I get really tired of television I just wanted something that would give me a change of routine, be fun, and stimulate my mind. This is not going to be a $1000.00 keyboard. But it has a great feel being touch response, meaning it changed sound and pops up faster! It has a great feel to me for the price! It has Only 3 buttons and a few different tones, several you can change it too. I didn’t want one with a lot of instrument buttons. I don’t know how to use all of them. Useless to me. If you connect your I-pad to the one app and play either their free or paid music. You do not need to know music notation. The keys will light up and turn red , as long as you are playing songs in the one app. library . There are 4,000 songs, so to me , not very limited. Now, I just wanted to play music as something new to do and to have fun and challenge my mind. As far as the one keyboard light goes? People that say this is limited by the songs in the one App Library are just do wrong about that! If you just want to play this keyboard without knowing how to read music? If you want to connect your I-pad and connect your keyboard at the one app and play their songs the keys light up and turn red. But, to me(even though you don’t have to read music to use the keyboard as I explained above) if you really want to broaden your horizons? You can learn real music notation with the app “Simply Piano.” This app is not free. They have a yearly plan & a quarterly plan! Then this keyboard will also connect to the Simply Piano app and it will recognize your keyboard! Please note? The keys will NOT light up if you use apps other than the one piano app for this keyboard. They do however allow the one keyboard to work with simply piano, garage band and possibly more. Very versitle keyboard as there are several ways to learn with it! I love simply piano! They teach music notation through song! So much fun & you can go over lessons you have already did if you want to go back and this app won many awards for teaching for real The sound is excellent with two 10 watt speakers! Also you can use headphones for the keys. Lastly! Not a $1000.00 keyboard? But for all it does, all the ways you can use it, lights up with the one app! Don’t light up with other apps, but does connect to multiple apps, simply piano, garage band, etc. You can buy stand and other accessories. Portable with batteries and power adaptor for plug in. Not a grand piano feel, but to me, touch response is a pretty good feel! Feels fine for me as a beginner! I love this keyboard! It allows me to do so much! Great quality, good sound, highly recvomnended product! ... show more

  • An Adult's Review
Color: Golden White
Something I noticed while reading the reviews of this is that almost nobody bought it for themselves. Either it was a gift for a kid, or someone's mom or dad bought it, or whatever. I mean, that's awesome, but there are another group of people like me-- adults that are getting into piano and aren't interested in buying lessons. This review is for that purpose, to illustrate to any other adults out there if this is merely a child's toy or if it can be a functional adult keyboard. So, does it work as a functional keyboard? Keep in mind my family has owned multiple pianos, including white grands, traditional pianos, and electric keyboards. I'm an avid listener of piano music, and have done extensive research of this topic. I took years of piano lessons when I was a kid, but I'm ADD, so I HATED it. I got so bored with the endless practice and struggled to read all the music, so eventually I quit. The answer to my original question (an adult) is YES, this works! I'll go over each part that I found notable. First, the important part-- the keys. The keys themselves were a bit of a disappointment. They're non-weighted, which I knew from the start, but I didn't expect them to feel quite so light. It feels more like a toy than the other keyboards I've played on. They have a funky feeling to them. I'm not a huge fan of them. If I play too vigorously, I might break it. It's immediately obvious that it's not a traditional keyboard. I got used to the unusual feel after about fifteen minutes of tooling around, and now it doesn't bother me. Second, the frame-- how does it look? How does it feel? Compared to other electric keyboards like this, it looks rather professional and nice. It's on par with others that I've come across as far as quality, but it looks more modern as far as aesthetics. It looks like something a music student would have instead of just something a parent bought for their kid to play with instead of a babysitter. I found the music stand to work very well for holding my device of choice (Iphone Six) while playing. Third, connectivity. They have their own app. True to their word, they have a ton of music available! Annoyingly, it doesn't remove songs that require an 88 key piano from the search results. I think it's a sales ploy to slowly convince people to buy the much more expensive full piano. At least they tell you before you buy something that it won't be compatible. I've read a couple of other people complaining about this as well, but I tried a few that required the full piano (such as the hard version of Scott Joplin's the Entertainer). Although a message warning about compatibility--you CAN play a lot of the full keyboard songs on it. Sure, there might be a note in there somewhere that requires a higher or lower octave, but it's quite possible to learn a full keyboard song on the shorter one. It'll still illuminate the notes in the right order and right location. If you want to see what I mean, look up Scott Joplin's the Entertainer and play it (the hard one, not the easy one). Another interesting thing is that when you plug your device into the keyboard, it actually charges it. Pretty handy. The speakers. They're pretty good, but I honestly expected more. I have a 7.2 surround sound in my house, and I plugged it into that and it sounds loads better. A brief note about this-- the manual led me astray. The keyboard has a aux out port and my stereo an aux in port, but you don't connect them. If you do, nothing will play out of your speakers of the stereo except static and the keyboard will still make all the sound. To test, I plugged my phone into the stereo and it worked fine. Something is wrong with my keyboard. The only way I was able to do it was to plug my aux cord into the headphone port and then into the aux input of my stereo, effectively tricking it. A notable drawback-- this thing's charger is tiny. I have a short desk that I play it on, and the charger barely goes across the desk. It's my biggest complaint, hands down. Make sure that your station will be near an outlet, or that you have batteries. I haven't tried it without the power cord, but I heard that you can use it with batteries. Can't vouch for that. How do the lights work? Excellently. It's an unbelievably handy feature. It feels like a game. How accurately and quickly can you press the keys? I felt a huge amount of pride, and in a funny way, it's much more supportive than a piano teacher. It doesn't lose patience if you don't get it right, and you can go as slowly as you want. Like I say, I've tried lessons. This is my preference. If you're terrible at first, you don't feel cringy or embarrassed. It's just you and it! Can this be used as a child's toy or learning tool? Of course. I'm sure it can. But does it fit the standards of an adult with musical experience? Absolutely. I can happily recommend it. It's also a heck of a lot less expensive than trying to pay a teacher, and you don't need to learn to read music. You can memorize the songs and you'll be fine if you want to. I'm sure that I will find a cheap piano on Craigslist somewhere to play because the speakers aren't that awesome, but in the meantime, I will learn on it. I think the most effective way to use this, at least from my experience, is to learn on it and transfer that knowledge to a traditional keyboard with better sound quality and a larger number of keys. I'm not (repeat, not) returning it, so don't mishear me. This isn't an accident, or a bad purchase. I'm not trying to replace it with another piano. This is an invaluable tool, and in the long and short run, you will not regret your purchase. It'll reignite that spark in you to learn and play either for the first time or as a continuation of your playing. Either way, awesome tool, awesome purchase. If you look into a teacher, you'll looking at $150 a month easily (not to mention driving time and gas). It's a simple equation-- buy this and have a near limitless amount of hours of teaching for years if you take good care of it, or have two months of traditional teaching and have to find a keyboard somewhere. It's your choice. For me, it's clear. I'll take the ONE Light Keyboard. Play it wherever and whenever. How many piano teachers can you call when you're bored at 1 am to come help you learn? I'd recommend buying it, but if you do or you don't, you're here for a reason. You want to further your career at playing this amazing instrument. Just for this, you're amazing. I've tried to help you by telling you my thoughts. Find what you love. Find the keyboard and setting you love. In the end, all that matters it that you're comfortable. Don't give up. Don't get frustrated. If one thing doesn't work for you, switch. Don't just give up like I did. Trust me, in the end you'll regret it. I wish you all the best of luck. Music is one of the most personal and beautiful things in this world. You CAN do it. It doesn't matter how good you are. What matters is that you are happy. This piano has reinvigorated this dream in me. For this, I cannot thank the ONE Music Group enough. Stay focused. Don't let anyone tell you no. That's it. That's the end of my review. I hope it helped someone. I'm going to go play here in a minute. Mysterious reader, best of luck. :) ... show more

  • I really want this keyboard. Fix the hissing
Color: Onyx Black
I am a fan of The One Light. I am learning to play and was looking for something more than my 44 key Casio. Setup was easy. I was able to connect my iPad Air without issue. Speakers on the unit sound good. I have two complaints. One is pretty major(in my mind). I hear a hiss in my headphones when they are connected to the 3.5mm headphone jack on the front. It happens when the unit is on, no matter the volume(even if it all the way down to zero). I know the headphones work as I tested them using my other keyboard, as well as directly in my iPad, iPhone and computer. I also tested other headsets. All performed the same way. Imagine air being let out of a tire or basketball, that is the sound that is always in the background. I can still hear the keyboard sounds, its just the annoying hiss is always in the background. There is no way i would use headphones with that sound in the background. Not good. I am hoping I have a defective unit. I already opened a support request with The One Music group site. I was not able to find a phone number to call. I am still waiting for a response. My second less important complaint is when I was running through the tutorial, the app seemed to think I had pedals connected (I do not). It would give me option to use the left play to replay or right pedal to move forward. My only option was to touch the iPad screen to replay or advance. It would be nice if the app would allow us users without the pedals to advance the screen using one of the keyboard keys. I realize this review sounds negative. I do not intend it to be. The headphone hissing causes me to give this a 3 stars as I will be using my headphones the majority of the time. ... show more
