  • Best synthesizer for the money, period.
Size: 88-Key Configuration: Standalone
Well made, feature rich, seamless integration with my DAW, and tons of pre loaded professional sounds which are easy to modify to get just the right sound you need. Best purchase I've made in decades!

  • So many features but getting productive is fast
Size: 88-Key Configuration: Standalone
Update: As I said, you can sit and instantly play. I included a photo to show my home brewed sound system. I STILL have trouble getting the ModX to connect to my Cubabse Ai DAW, but I have made some progress. I cut my teeth on Sonar/Cakewalk and miss it dearly! The manuals tell you what something is, but you must go to Youtube and other tutorials to really learn hos to use it fully. But to play and layer a few sounds together is a piece of cake. These modern synths are incredible music engines. It does so much it can be overwhelming. The best thing they did was package up the flagship Montage into a portable superb looking system. Even with the huge array of very hard to understand features, you can sit and play instantly. It comes with the Cubase AI DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) which I installed but can't begin to figure out as a bonus. I am very smart and have good musical talent, by the way, but I am NOT a pianist by any stretch. I say this to say that I am practicing every day, I have a nice mixing sound system and monitors, this is my 3rd Yamaha synth and I am 63 years old! This is to encourage others to develop their hobbies and interests. I am an amateur songwriter and will use this to make my songs come to life. ... show more

  • Yamaha makes the best!
Size: 88-Key Configuration: Standalone
I have always liked the sound of a Yamaha baby grand piano! Years ago, I purchased Yamaha’s Motif ES8 and it was and still is a great instrument. The only trouble is that it weighs a ton and I would often have to get another person to help me with getting it in and out of the car. Well, the MODX8 is very light as the articles and videos I looked at before making the decision to buy the instrument. Also, the touch and feel of the keys are great. I wanted a Yamaha baby grand but I get so much more with this keyboard. It is easy to use and there are tons of Youtube videos to describe and help you learn how to navigate the instrument. You will also get plenty of videos from Yamaha when you go on the website and enter your purchase with the Model and serial number. Lots of downloads from Yamaha. You will be get tired of this instrument. Amazon did a great job in making sure that the instrument was secure; I had to sign for the delivery. Take my word and get this keyboard if you are a professional or beginning musician. You will not be disappointed! ... show more

  • NOT an expert review, but I like this synth.
Size: 88-Key Configuration: Standalone
This is my first synth/workstation so I don't have any significant, comparative insights. I have had a quality electric piano that has a great feel to the keybed and very good, classic piano sounds. This MODX is a little behind in both of those things to the Kawai ES3, but I don't believe you can get the best of everything at this price point. There is definitely a learning curve (which I'm still on!) to getting into sound modification. That's the reason I rated 'Easy to use' at 3 stars. To be fair, some of my struggle could be that I wasn't familiar with the language of the synth world :) I found that youtube tutorials are more helpful than the manual. There are a lot of things on it that I'll never use because I bought it mainly for the relatively simple layering of sounds ('performances') (used for contemporary Christian worship) and editing the primary parameters like reverb, delay, chorus, attack, release, EQ, etc. It seems REALLY impressive, and does some complicated things for people who want to go deeper into sound modification. The 'performances' (sounds) that are on it are really varied, and a lot of fun to play with just as they are...including the quick variations of the sounds using the 'assign' buttons, mod wheel, and Super Knob. Before I bought it, I read that it was the best choice for the price, and after shopping around, and then having this one for about 6 weeks, I think that's true. ... show more

  • Great keyboard and value for money
Size: 88-Key Configuration: Standalone
This keyboard is an absolute gem. I have it about 1 month month and I can seem to stop when I start playing it. My favorite tone is "S700 for montage," which is a crisp, but sweet piano. Word of advice: this keyboard doesn't come with speakers but a good near field studio monitor (like Iloud) is ideal for this board. I don't find the download able sounds from the Yamaha website too appealing, and despite it has the rhythm pattern button, getting a personalized drum Grove is still difficult. I also wish I know how to get midi files to play through it like the arranger keyboard. But acoustic piano enthusiasts will find this product pure heaven. I loved the MOXF8 and now I love this board with a passion. The price is also good. ... show more

  • This thing is bad ass!!!
Size: 61-Key Configuration: Standalone
I've had Roland FA06, Krome 61 and Nord Electro....But this board offers the most updated and modern sound I've heard....I don't have a Kronos Budget so this was perfect...Onboard sequencer kinda blows but I use a DAW anyway...this is used for on board sounds and live performances. As usual the organs are meh, but EPs, Pianos and synth stuff is off the charts. Multiple arps are fantastic. Wish it had more rock drum sets (5) than the million hip hop kits..but again live use mostly...Light weight...great for bread and butter sounds atop by Nord Electro 5D ... show more

  • Really Fun To Play!
Size: 61-Key Configuration: Standalone
The MODX6 is so fun to play, I jam on it for hours. Love it! Using the Yamaha FC5 pedal for sustain, and the SanDisk SDCZ33-032G-A46 USB flash drive to save new patches when I make changes to the presets. The Yamaha soft case fits really well and I like the shoulder straps. The hard case was too big for me. For dust the Gator Cases GKC-1540 Stretchy Keyboard Dust Cover I liked the best. Playing through the stereo aux input of an Ampeg BA-108 bass combo amp. Sounds really good with amplification that can support the lower frequencies. Portability was the reason to choose the 61 keyboard. Yamaha music soft has downloads for everything. Also tried Soundmondo.com online social sound sharing community that was cool. Lot of people putting MODX patches on there. I use the AmazonBasics USB 2.0 Cable A-Male to B-Male to connect to the computer. ... show more
