I used my old North Face Slingshot backpack for nearly 18 years, so it was time to upgrade. I always liked the design of the Recon and chose to purchase this backpack. I've never seen the navy backpack in person, but since it's my favorite color, I pulled the trigger. When I received it, I was surprised by how nice and sleek it looked. All the compartments were thoughtfully designed and are practical. The soft material they used for the interior of the front compartment is perfect for phones, glasses, and other things you want to keep safe. The backpack was bigger than expected, and is more than adequate to carry my everyday work items. The straps are comfortable and sturdy. The external fleece-lined pocket is a huge upgrade from my old Slingshot strings that could only carry clothes. I don't use the buckle straps, so it does look a little sloppy at times. However, you can adjust them so they're not in your way. The bottom of the backpack looks durable and it's very unlikely any holes will form in the future. Since my old backpack lasted so long, I'm confident this one will last longer. Overall, I think it's a quality backpack and I'm getting more than I paid for. ... show more

Great bag! I bought this bag for my son, who’s in the Navy, in 2024. He traveled the world with it, until it was unfortunately stolen recently while he was at work 😑 I will be purchasing another one for him this week, because he really did love it. I couldn’t be happier with my North Face Recon backpack. I use it daily for work and travel, and it’s hands-down one of the best backpacks I’ve owned. The laptop compartment is well-padded and fits my 15” laptop perfectly. There’s also plenty of space in the main compartment for books, clothes, or gear, plus a ton of smartly placed pockets to keep everything organized. The front pocket is great for quick-access items, and the fleece-lined pocket is perfect for sunglasses or a phone. The best part? It’s incredibly comfortable to wear, even when fully loaded. The padded straps and back panel provide great support, and the sternum strap helps with weight distribution. It also feels super durable—classic North Face quality. This backpack overall is very good quality. It is made of a very durable material and you can feel how strong the material is. The main panels are also somewhat waterproof, and I have never had any problems walking in the rain with it. The back is well padded and very comfortable to walk with, but the top straps may be a bit narrow for some people. My only problem with this is that there is basically one compartment and all the other pockets (laptop, admin, front smaller pocket) are like bags that stick into the main compartment, limiting the space in there. So, any larger items have to be stuffed into the bottom and can be very hard to remove if there are items in the admin pocket. Overall, this is a very good backpack, but could be better if access to the bottom of the bag was made easier, possibly by making each pocket a separate compartment instead of a bag that sticks into the main compartment. ... show more

I use this bag every day. Holds my 15 in MacBook Air in the laptop compartment, is durable (bought this to replace a 17 year old NF backpack), has compartments for nearly everything, two cup holders. My only complaint is it is not very big. My old north face backpack I could literally take two Europe on vacation for two weeks. This one I cannot do that, but for my every day normal use, it works fantastically. ... show more

This backpack is amazing and I really enjoy using it for classes! It distributes the weight evenly making for a great commuter backpack. Despite the price, it’s an amazing value. It’s very sleek and stylish and the zippers have held up well. A very functional purchase!

Fantastic bag. Initially purchased cheaper backpack for my high schooler in August. By end of September it was ripping at the shoulder straps and zipper. Purchased this bag and it has held up to major abuse. Overstuffed clothes, heavy text books and a laptop AND bulky clothes, getting tossed on the ground, etc. Not one string has come undone. I expected the shoulder straps to fray like the first bag, but five months later and the seams look like they did the day it arrived. You get what you pay for! ... show more
