I’ve never been a North Face guy. In my younger days it was Burton and Da Kine only. Now that I’m not chasing the pro-snowboarder look, my taste has shifted to clean and high quality. This jacket nails it. It’s a 2-piece system. The outer shell zips off, and the inner layer is a slick puff-style jacket that looks classy and minimal but still runs hot in the best way. Reattaching is easy with the inner zipper and a few simple attachment points. Together they feel ready for real cold, and the inner piece on its own is great for everyday wear. Build quality is excellent. Zippers feel solid, stitching is clean, and the whole package just sits right on the body. I put it on once and immediately got why people swear by North Face for mountain trips and winter travel. If you already know the brand, none of this is surprising. Let me start by saying, I've never before bought or tried on this particular brand or style of jacket before so I had no clue what to expect. My husband usually wears Carhartt coats so wasn't even sure if he'd be willing to try this one, haha. This jacket definitely exceeded all my expectations and for the price you literally get THREE different wearable jackets which I did not expect. 1 wind/rain jacket,1 lite puffer jacket, and 1 combined jacket for colder weather. My husband is 6'2" 200 lbs and has long arms, sometimes has issues with long sleeves not being long enough and the XL fit him perfectly. There are 2 zipper pockets on the outside of the coat and one zipper inside pocket. This jacket is also super adjustable, the hood can be cinched and tightened to make the hood smaller, it can also be cinched around the face, and also at the bottom of the jacket if you don't like it to be as loose at the bottom. Judging by the quality of the zippers and the jacket it looks like it's built to last. It feels pretty lite and comfortable but also keeps you very warm in cold or wet weather conditions. This jacket can be easily packed in a duffle bag or suitcase as well because it is not big and bulky like most jackets. I'd definitely recommend this tri-climate jacket, especially because you're getting 3 jackets for the price! This jacket is the real deal. It feels like the kind of coat that quietly takes on winter without making a big fuss about it. The outer shell keeps the wet stuff out while the insulated inner layer brings the warmth in a way that does not feel bulky or stiff. The recycled materials are a nice bonus too. The shell and insulation are both made from recycled polyester and the inner jacket uses wind resistant fabric that blocks cold gusts like a champ. You can wear the layers together for full protection or split them up when the weather cannot make up its mind. Fit is regular and comfortable which makes it easy to move around and easy to layer. I'm 6'1" ~210lb and the XL fits perfect. The hood adjusts, the cuffs tighten up, and the zip pockets keep your stuff from escaping when you bend over to pick up something you instantly regret dropping. For starters, the quality, comfort, and styling of this jacket is exactly what one would expect from this brand. It is lightweight yet keeps me warm, it looks great, and it is comfortable. It is a great jacket. My only complaint is the price. I acknowledge that one should expect to pay more for a well-constructed, name-brand jacket. This is easily the best coat I have ever worn. After testing it out on a cold, windy night, I was completely comfortable and barely felt the chill. It is surprisingly lightweight, incredibly warm, and completely stops the wind, living up to The North Face reputation. The Triclimate system allows you to adapt to any weather condition by wearing the shell alone for rain and mild wind, the zip-in fleece liner for cool, dry days, or combining them for serious winter warmth. The fit (mine was standard/big) was accurate and allowed for comfortable layering underneath without feeling bulky. There is a reason why you see weather professionals wearing this brand - it is fantastic.
