Description

In the tradition of international bestsellers, Future Shock and Megatrends, Michael J. Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy, brings The Mobile Wave, a ground- breaking analysis of the impact of mobile intelligence - the fifth wave of computer technology. The Mobile Wave argues that the changes brought by mobile computing are so big and widespread that it’s impossible for us to see it all, even though we are all immersed in it. Saylor explains that the current generation of mobile smart phones and tablet computers has set the stage to become the universal computing platform for the world. In the hands of billions of people and accessible anywhere and anytime, mobile computers are poised to become an appendage of the human being and an essential tool for modern life. With the perspective of a historian, the precision of a technologist, and the pragmatism of a CEO, Saylor provides a panoramic view of the future mobile world. He describes how: A Harvard education will be available to anyone with the touch of a screen. Cash will become virtual software and crime proof. Cars, homes, fruit, animals, and more will be “tagged” so they can tell you about themselves. Buying an item will be as easy as pointing our mobile device to scan and pay. Land and capital will become more of a liability than an asset. Social mobile media will push all businesses to think and act like software companies. Employment will shift as more service-oriented jobs are automated by mobile software. Products, businesses, industries, economies, and even society will be altered forever as the Mobile wave washes over us and changes the landscape. With so much change, The Mobile Wave is a guidebook for individuals, business leaders, and public figures who must navigate the new terrain as mobile intelligence changes everything. Read more

  • Let's Ride the Mobile Wave!
I found the Mobile Wave to be an excellent and informative analysis of the various technological threads that have evolved at a remarkable pace in recent decades to give us the wondrous world of mobile technology that we enjoy today, and which, once woven together, point to an even more remarkable and interconnected future. The book is written in such a way that both the digitally-challenged and more techno-savvy reader will find it easy and enjoyable to follow the author as he recounts the various intertwined innovations and inventions across sectors that have led us up to our experience-on-demand mobile lifestyle. I had originally read this book with the expectation that it would simply be a business-minded discussion of the mobile phone and tablet marketplace. However, at it's core throughout, the Mobile Wave is a much more comprehensive analysis on how technology has fundamentally altered and accelerated the way we all communicate and interact, in all facets of our lives. Even if one is aware of the various components of technology in their day-to-day existence, the Mobile Wave, which is aptly named, gives one pause, and provides an informative grounding to contemplate the mobile technology tsunami which we are all surfing, and which is casting us headlong towards an uncharted but fantastic digital horizon. ... show more

  • The Mobile Wave
This is a significant book to read. I am disappointed that the author choose to sell it for $12, he would have reached a broader audience at $2.99. This book needs a broader audience to read it. Very few people know what is happening to their world and why, this book explains what is happening with mobile technology and why. His chapter on education is a must read for everyone in education. I would also like to ask Kindle and authors to add an email to the author so the reader can be more involved in the reading process. It is so fun to find an author who understands what is happening and can explain it to his audience. NOW LOWER THE PRICE SO MORE PEOPLE CAN BUY IT. ... show more

  • Good Ideas about where Mobile Information will take us!
Format: Kindle
This is written by the CEO of MicroStrategy. It was a pleasure to read this book. The forecast he does are credible. It takes its time to explain the different phases of the evolution of computer, which I enjoyed. Then, Saylor goes into the actual mobile wave and a series of statistics explaining that indeed we have entered in the mobile wave. There is a very interesting account about the history of information. Information Revolution is one of the cornerstones of Saylor’s argument. Later on, Saylors goes to explain the following industries and areas where the mobile wave will have an impact: Entertainment: bye bye DVD, Books and TV. Wallet: basically you will replace your wallet with your phone: credit cards, coupons, IDs and of course money. Medicine: We will be able to remove a lot of wasteful processes in hospital and clinics for benefit of the consumers. We will be able to consolidate our medical history into one central location. We will be able to get consultation from an expert remotely through our mobile devices, this will in turn make the hospitals and clinics less expensive while still giving the patient the highest quality of service. Education: We will be able to obtain a Harvard education without the fees from the comfort of our house. Developing World: With deficient electricity supply, clean water or roads, the third world is posed to rip the benefits of the mobile wave by removing the middle man from many areas of the economy. Purchasing vegetables or fish directly from the farmers or fishermen will reduce cost and waste. The third world will use the mobile wave to get better education as well as medicine. The main idea is that the pervasive use of mobile devices will provide everyone with the latest information. And with the latest information, service industries like real estate agents, banks, financial brokers, etc, will not be needed because the main job of the service industries is to handle information (where is the best house, who will provide the best interest rate, which is the best performing stock). And so the technology will improve efficiency and allocate people to other higher level activities for the benefit of all. I liked this book! ... show more

  • Ahead of his time
Format: Paperback
Michael Saylor is brilliant and his writing style is so easy to understand. He explains innovation and technology in a way that makes you think, "well, of course that's how it's going to evolve, it makes so much sense!!". He is truly a visionary and trail blazer and we can all learn from him. I highly recommend the book and I definitely recommend following him on YouTube and Twitter. ... show more

  • Mobile Waving not drowning
This is a great take on where we may well be travelling as a global community, based on what has gone before. It's steady and easy to read; a history lesson, educational and informative; I learnt stuff!. NB: As I wrote this review on my smartphone in my lunch break in a city food mall here in Sydney I can see the evidence to support Michaels contentions all around me..The vast majority of fellow office workers are juggling eating with one hand and interacting and consuming mobile content simultaneously. ... show more
