  • Tiniest print I have ever seen
The size of the print in this book is just too small. See my photo - it's only a little bigger than the point of a #2 pencil. I like that it gives a brief definition plus synonyms, antonyms and related words. That would be a great resource for my kids doing homework but the text is so small it makes using this unpleasant. I'm off to go look for a better version at the store so I can see it in person first. ... show more

  • This book in NOT a Thesaurus
I had bought this book thinking it was a thesaurus to replace my old one from 1990. I am very disappointed to find it is a dictionary and NOT a thesaurus as advertised. Though there are a few suggestions of interchangeable words they are very few. I really wanted an up to date thesaurus for my writing assignments but I'll stick to my old Websters New World Thesaurus, as at least it is a real thesaurus. Yes, there is the internet but I like having a book bedside me that I can just pick up for a quick reference while I'm writing. Unless you need a dictionary, I would look elsewhere for a thesaurus. ... show more

  • If You Know How To Use Every Word, You Don't Need This, But For The Rest Of Us......
Before I start to write, I always make sure I have 5 books lined up next to my computer, and The Merriam-Webster Thesaurus is one of them. I know and use many words and phrases, but I still wear the cover off of this book. Why? Because, as a writer you never want to get zoned in on using the same words over and over. Your readers will pick up on that, and do the last thing you ever want them to do.........get bored and stop turning the pages. But, yes there is always a "but", a thesaurus is just another tool for a writer to use, and you should take every advantage of it. YOU, as the writer, must sit down and WRITE. It always comes down to that.......you must write, and re-write. Take a good look at all the Merriam-Webster Thesaurus has in it, you may even find a few surprises. ... show more

  • Don't waste your money.
Print incredibly small. I don't even use it. Sticking with my old Warner Books edition, 1982 (Original c 1961) Same with Webster's New College Dictionary, Fifth Edition, Updated. Incredibly small print and some new words not even in it. Sticking with my American College Dictionary, Fourth Edition, 2002. Easier to read and seems as "updated" as the newer Webster's. ... show more

  • Smaller print than I can read
This is NOT a full-sized thesaurus at all. It is only about a fourth of the size a regular dictionary is. I need a magnifying glass to be able to read anything in it because the print is sooo small. I thought I was buying a newer version on the dictionary I already own. I didn't read that it is a thesaurus at all. I just read "The Mirriam-Webster" and didn't go beyond that since I was looking for a dictionary. Duh Barb! ... show more

  • Not a thesaurus
This is more a dictionary than a thesaurus. Almost useless considering I also bought a dictionary.

  • A wonderful reference book
I bought this book for my sister Sonya and she loves it.It's helping her to find various words, that she didn't even know existed and what they mean as well. Also what's great is all you have to do is open to a random page and you find a word. It's not a book you have to read page by page.My sister doesn't read often,so the Thesaurus is prefect for her in many ways.I highly recommed getting the Thesaurus you will be glad you did. ... show more

  • A few minor issues
As a writer, there are a couple of books I always keep on hand, with a thesaurus being one of them. While this thesaurus fits most of my needs, there are a few things I don’t like about this edition. First, the font size is tiny, no, make that microscopic, which makes it difficult to use. Second, most entries direct you to lookup a different word rather than giving the synonyms and antonyms. For example, if you look up outcry, the thesaurus redirects you to clamor. I understand this is done to save space, but it makes using this thesaurus frustrating. ... show more
