  • Makes a great little portable Sword!
Bigger than I imagined, and the back-light is awesome!! When I first received it I was disappointed that the back-light shut off after 30 seconds, but after playing around with it I figured it out. After you turn on the bible, turn the backlight on and then off. Then you can use function + backlight to keep it on (kinda weird, I know, but it works!). I did not find this in the help section, had to figure it out myself. I've already put 4-5 hours reading in the dark with the backlight and the 2 AAA batteries are still good. It's been a week with close to10 total hours, and the first batteries are still good. I call this bible my little electric "sword" (Sword of the Spirit is the word of God). When the kids go to bed I sit in the dark and read all the wonderful nuggets about my King! Praise God! The Lord Jesus Christ is coming soon! I really like being able to cross-reference the two versions by just hitting the KJV or NIV buttons, and the Holmes Dictionary is very descriptive. Last Saturday morning I was reading the book of Acts (book of action!) to my 16 year old son and we came to the word "Sanhedrin". He asked, "who are they?". So I hit the "DICT" button, typed it in, and it gave a detailed explanation of who they were. COOL!!! I highly recommend this little "Sword". Portable and very good battery life (even with the light on). I've had my older Franklin KJV electric bible since the late 90's and it still works great, but I wanted something with a bigger screen and backlight. And this little gem did not disappoint. ... show more

  • Quality problems
This is 6 stars product that gets 1 star because of manufacturing quality problems. First unit had problems with up/down/right/left key. It was ncessary to use force to make this key working, and usually it was necessary to press it many times to have the effect. I returned this unit the same day I got it and saked for replacement Second unit had problems with screen backlit - light was flashing for about a second and vanishing. Moreover, there was something wrong with processor - sometimes it was going into "search forever" mode and the only remedy was to do hard reset. Unit was returned the same day and I asked for refund. This WOULD be very good product - both versions of Bible, it is possible to switch between them while reading to see both version of the same verse. It is also possible to switch back and forth between Bible and Dictionary, and to find word highlighted in Bilbe directly in the dictionaty. Screen is large with good contrast, and backlit is very helpful. Nice look, looks like a small prayer book. Unfortunately, with problems as above I will not risk other try. I am a bit astonished, since I own 5 other products from Franklin, some 20 years old, and I have never had smallest problem. Maybe this is just poor manufacturing batch with quality problems. I will try again after 6 month ... show more

  • Not too user-friendly!
I am disappointed with this item. The overall size is quite small and a bit hard to use. The instructions are complicated and the Holman Bible dictionary is especially difficult to use. It is more of a concordance than a dictionary as I have yet to find a definition for any word I've searched. The King James Version is good, easy to read and has adjustable size type. I will never know how the NIV portion works as I have researched that translation and it's liberal/homosexual origins and refuse to use it. I would MUCH rather the manufacturer had omitted it altogether from this device and replaced it with something useful and beneficial to a Christian life. The instruction guide is a bit complicated and very lengthy. It is written in a fold-out format and once you unfold it, forget about getting it back together right. A booklet would have been much more user-friendly and it would have been nice as well had there been a carrying case included as is standard for most similar devices. If you can stick with it long enough to learn how it works, it might be OK, but I've about had it and am considering giving it away as a gift. Not impressed! ... show more

  • Is this a real need?
Being a Catholic with poor memory; I wanted something with a concordance to use at our prayer meeting as I have trouble to remember the address of the verse that I would like to use on occasion and I was hoping that this would fit the bill. It is some help, but by the time I get what I am looking for, the meeting is almost over. This is NOT very practical as it is very sensitive to moisture and damage, unlike a book. If you use it for an organizer, you could lose any info when you change the batteries (company too cheap to supply them for you) or have any type of battery damage. I would NOT give this to young people, only because they live in an electronic world and they should be learning to live with real books. They are losing so much in this world, such a shame!! For the price of this item, you could buy many compact bibles which would be so much better to carry around and as a niece of my wife was reading her bible, a co-worker started to mock her; but after a few moments of talking; she gave him her bible as he was starving for help in his life; now, would she or any of you give someone this electronic bible? Didn't think so!! If you think that you want one of these, search on Amazon for the best price. ... show more
