  • An amazing RPG that every fan of the genre must play.
Style: Single
I discovered the Trails series, created by NIhon Falcom, thanks to the decline of Square Enix quality, which forced me to search for different RPG developers, and since then it became my favorite RPG series of all time, far superior than the Final Fantasy that got me into RPGs. This game specializes in world building through a great story, wonderful characters and well written dialogues. Each Trails Game includes the same amount of text as the entire Harry Potter book collection, which means there's a lot for you to read and discover. The turn base gameplay in this games is also fantastic, requiring you to use good strategies in order to win your fights... in the higher difficulties many boss battles can get really demanding, so maybe the normal difficulty is the one I'd recommend to newcomers. The Graphics of the first two Trails of Cold Steel games are from the PS3 era, but remastered, and they look cool. The world they present to us is created with care, and it's beautiful discover it while exploring it. In closing, if you like RPGs and enjoy reading, the Trails Series will be a well deserved gift for you and your loved ones. You'll immerse in an amazing narrative which you'll come to love. PS: The Trails series has 12 game releases in english, at this moment, and the story of all of them is connected. Even though, Trails of Cold Steel 1&2 are great entry point into the series, given that they start a new arch based in Erebonia (a country withing the Trails world), and they really don't spoil anything relevant from the previous games... even though, if you played the previous games, you'll connect more with several side topics that are mentioned during these games. ... show more

  • I’m hooked!
Style: Single
I did not expect to enjoy this game as much as I am. I'm out of town half the time, and I am finding myself yearning to come home to play this game. I haven't felt that way about video games in general in a long time! This is my first introduction playing any of the Trails games and I'm hooked! It's well worth the value because I've put almost 80 hours into the game already and I think I still got a ways to go. If you are familiar with the Tales games, I find this to be very similar in gameplay, so similar in fact that I was shocked that they aren't related in any way. I'm really into the characters and storyline and am looking forward to getting to the rest of the games in the series. ... show more

  • Very detailed characters and plot.
Style: Single
Overall, this is a very good game for fans of Jrpgs. Well thought out characters with detailed backgrounds, and the battle system was easy to learn. I did like that you could link character attacks together to perform more damaging attacks. The only reason I gave this game 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the detailed background of characters. I did like that all the main characters have a good background story, and it was nice that even "minor" characters also had a good background to them. The thing I didn't like is that there was so much background given to everybody that the gameplay sometimes resulted in watching seemingly endless dialogue. There were times I was just sitting with my controller down in my lap not interacting with the game. You would have your characters sit in a meeting and the "gameplay" would be: Watch character talk, press x, watch next character talk, press x, watch next character talk, press x....30 minutes later...watch next character talk, press x....and just when you think you're finally done with a long talking scene, a different character would walk into the room and....watch character talk, press x.... There was one time I was playing and I actually fell asleep with my controller down in my lap! Again, it's a good game overall, and when you're actually involved in the game, it's a fun, enjoyable game. ... show more

  • One of if not the best RPG series on PS4.
Style: Single
This is one of if not the best series of RPGs on PS4 and this is the one that started it all. Not only is the story interesting but the gameplay mechanics are spot on. If there is any complaint, it is only that all the side mission stuff can drag a bit at times but the game is really fun and enjoyable overall. Pick it up if you've never played it and don't forget to get the other III. Especially part II which picks up right from the ending of the first. ... show more

  • Amazing game

This was an amazing game and the startup of an amazing series. I'm currently playing trails 3. I forgot to leave a review but its such a good jrpg. My friend told me its boring and slow so I avoided playing it for years. I'm so glad I decided to try it for myself because I was so immersed by the story and characters that I didnt find it slow or boring. I definitely recommend this game. ... show more

  • Runs great
Style: Single
I was worried because this is not a USA region version. I think it is a European region version. Anyway, it runs great. I am deep into the game (well into chapter 5) and haven't had any issues with how the game runs. I am a big fan of the series, and this is my third or fourth play through for game one. Interestingly, this version came with a bunch of free DLC that includes a lot of rare cooking ingredients along with some high powered healing items. Lastly, I am playing this on the PS5, and it runs flawlessly. ... show more
