  • Must-Play
I heard the hype of this game for years and years. Obviously it is regarded highly in the community, but by the time I bought a PS4 it was a bit old. I can only say that this game aged exceptionally well. It still looks great, the gameplay is fun and engaging, but why I came to write this review is the story. HANDS DOWN, the BEST story to any game I've ever played. The characters and their personalities are just perfect. The voice acting, the mannerisms of the characters during gameplay depending on the mood, the cut scenes. They are all just brilliantly done. If for no other reason, buy this game just for the story. For the price it's at now, it's a steal. This is a game you HAVE to experience. I've never felt so strongly toward the characters of a game. It was more along the lines of reading a book or watching a movie. I urge you to give this game a play through, you won't regret it. ... show more

  • Solid but man... minor annoyances
Overall, great game, great story, impossible to go wrong for $20 or less. You'll remember this for a long time. There's just a list of minor annoyances that exist: -The 'realistic audio' is cool and all, meaning voices are muffled if you aren't within a decent line of sight from a character, but this means you'll be plowing ahead of Ellie and she'll be talking behind a rock, and you won't understand a word she's saying. This requires subtitles. Subtitles ruin the experience for me because I read far faster than most games talk. You could also walk really slowly to stay next to Ellie at all times. But who wants to do that? -The combat is the usual Naughty Dog style where it varies from extremely trivial to incredibly hard, and in some cases a fight that was hard for you on the first playthrough is easy on the second time, and the other way around -Speaking of the combat, you can skip past most of the encounters by sneaking -...until the game suddenly decides sneaking doesn't work and you have to fight 8 enemies at once -So many enemies 1 hit KO you on any difficulty -The hardest difficulty isn't very hard when you realize the game will always provide you with resources when you run low -Why is Summer longer than Fall/Winter combined? -The Playstation trophies are garbage I've told many people I truly think this game is best experienced on the easiest difficulty and pretend it's a very long interactive book, and they've largely agreed. There isn't quite an experience like this game that I can think of, maybe God of War gets close but for slightly different reasons, so it's impossible to say this game isn't great and near a masterpiece. I just wish it didn't have the usual Naughty Dog flavor of frustrations and odd combat design ... show more
