Handy knitting reference book
Format: Spiral-bound
Nice book to add to my reference knitting books. Been knitting 30 yrs, have some very handy reference books, this is one of them so when I'm getting ready to make a new sweater shape, it's a go-to.

So Many Choices!
Format: Spiral-bound
I bought this for my mother. She has knitted for as long as I can remember. She had been looking for a book of sweater patterns and was so impressed with this. It's easy to read (she's in her 80's), and she went on and on about all the styles and size choices! She was also impressed with the layout of the book...you can take parts from different styles and put them together with other parts to create your own design. I call this Frankensweater! HA! The spiral bound option is perfect! The book stays open and lays flat for easy viewing. She has referred to this as the bible of sweater knitting. Given her experience, I'd say you will be impressed! ... show more

Good for the experienced knitter
Format: Spiral-bound
If you've never knitted a sweater before, pause before choosing this. While it is a goldmine of patterns and choices, you need a comfortable understanding of the dynamics of knitted garment construction. As a knitter for over 65 years, I have enjoyed using this book and have made three sweaters from it, so far. ... show more

This Book Will Get You In A Sweater Fast
Format: Spiral-bound
Ann Budd’s Knitter’s Handy Book of Sweaters has directions for making a basic sweater in six different types of sweater styles. She has the instructions so you can make any of those sweaters with any size needles and yarn and in any garment size from infants to adult chest size 54”. There are also “Copy Cat” patterns at the end of each section with directions to construct a lovely sweater designed by a well-known, respected designer who created that pattern using the formula for that sweater style given in that chapter. It’s a great book that gives the knitter a blank canvas with the hardest part of sweater design, developing the numbers for the pattern in the size you want to knit, so all you have to do is have fun choosing the yarn, colors and tweaking the details to make the sweater truly yours! I have all her books and I use them! I can’t recommend this book highly enough! ... show more

Not a Bad Introduction To Using Knitting Patterns, But Not A One Size Fits All.
Format: Spiral-bound
I was excited to get this book as I like to design my own patterns. I followed one of the patterns and the sweater I made ended up rather big. I think there are some mathematic assumptions made in the master patterns that are generally correct, but may need some readjusting as the knitting happens. For example, in the pattern for a set-in-sleeves sweater (cardigan version), the width at the top of the sleeves is very deep, and the length is way too long. This is more of a tailoring issue, but that should be addressed in the book more. In other words, it would be great if there was a chapter about 'how to customize patterns to fit your particular shape). It doesn't really address (well, at least) how to adjust patterns to fit different body types, or where typically those adjustments are made on the sweater. What DOES work well is that the patterns DO make sense. They are a bit complex to follow (you'll have to leaf through about 10-12 pages as you're working the different parts of the sweater). Also, the math works (I did end up with the proper amount of stitches that the book told me I should end up with at the end of each part.) I also found the different parts fairly easy to put together after I had blocked them. But all in all, I think planning, blocking, seaming, finishing, are all equal parts of the final design and need to be addressed. I think the book could do with expansion on these other areas. It's not a bad introduction, but I ended up more curious about pattern making, and am now starting to make my own patterns as a result. ... show more

Excellent book of Sweater Knitting Patterns
Format: Spiral-bound
If you want to make your own sweater design, this book provides great charts and references on how to go beyond the stockinette stitch. Pictures of the sweaters also complement the instructions. You can make sweaters for everyone - babies, children, men, and women. Instructions are included on how to measure gauge, calculating yarn, sweater measurements, etc. Six different types of sweaters are included - drop shoulder, modified drop shoulder, set-in sleeve, saddle shoulder, raglan and seamless yoke. Personal touches are also included such as different neck finishes. I am a beginning knitter but I know this is one book that I can use as I expand my skills. Also, adjusting body or sleeve length, adding stitch or color patterns, and adjusting for different gauges are included. A great basic reference! ... show more

A Winner! Due to become a classic.
Format: Spiral-bound
I've a;ways been the type of knitter who has felt that if it is going to look like something I got at TJ MAXX then why go through the trouble and expense of handknitting it. I want my sweaters to be unique one of a kind creations full of my personal touches. My close friend on the other hand wants her handknits to look like she got them from Lands End (of Land of Conservative I'd say). We both love this book! I think she is ordering her own copy right now after keeping mine for three weeks. Using this book we can both end up with sweaters that fit, but with our own personal touches. You need to have this book in your knitting library, whether you already have 100 books or you only have one. ... show more
