  • Quality dog food
Flavor Name: Beef Size: 2 lb
This food is excellent. I don't serve this outright as a full meal but instead use it as a premix base with my homemade food. While The Honest Kitchen does have a premix option, there are times where this is cheaper than the premix. When using this as a base, I don't add much to it considering the ingredient list. What I added was some seasonings, beef kidney, beef liver, more ground beef, beef tripe, salmon oil and a small bag of mixed vegetables. The texture ended up looking a bit like thinned out oatmeal but I'm fine with that. Like the premix, this has been good to my girl. Her skin and coat has been shiney without shedding. She hasn't been itchy. She's highly energetic. Her breath isn't bad and her bowels are smaller without being overtly offensive. I'm all for the purchase of this food as a complete meal. Even without the additional meats and grains I still trust The Honest Kitchen. It actually looks like beef. I recently purchased Three Bears from Grandma Lucy's only to be disappointed. For a food to have beef, you'd think it was a light brown color but no. This food for sure doesn't lie about their meat content and it smells pretty darn good. It taste good too. I've tasted all the meals not kibble I've presented my girl to date. If I didn't know better I may consider eating her food. Overally, these dehydrated mixes is worth the purchase. My family loves them. I highly recommend all of the ones I've purchased from The Honest Kitchen to date. ... show more

  • No fuss, no cans, no mess --- and I know every ingredient is humanely/sustainably sourced
Flavor Name: Turkey Size: 10 lb (makes 40 lb)
We have been feeding our dogs Honest Kitchen dehydrated food for quite some time now and it's great when you have dogs who have to take regular medication and can't be coaxed into swallowing pills (no matter what you try to hide them in). You can crush pills or pierce capsules and pour the liquid into this food, add water, stir and wait 3 minutes and the dogs eat it up. I find my dogs like the beef and fish flavors the best, and yes, it looks like oatmeal when it is ready. I top it with some kibble so they have the crunch as well as the stew. It's nice that you know every ingredient that is in your dog's food and that it is humanely and sustainably sourced. My dogs love it and get barky when the box is opened. Also, you don't have to deal with all the cans that come with wet food! ... show more

  • Senior dog approved!
Flavor Name: Chicken Size: 4 lb
Perfect food for my senior dog. He loves the flavor and consistency. I love the ease of preparation and the healthy ingredients. So much better than canned dog food that you have to refrigerate and reheat.

  • My fur babies LOVE this food!!
Flavor Name: Beef Size: 4 lb (makes 16 lb)
For the past few months I've been extensively researching for a better food for my 3 small dogs, one is a schnauzer and the other two, yorkies since the the regular dry store bought kibble hadn't been doing my little ones any favors, especially in the weight department. After giving up trying to find something better at the big box stores, I figured I'd have better luck on Amazon. I came across this product while looking at the Sojos brand of freeze dry dog food and figured I'd try this one first since it's cheaper and would probably be better for weight loss and maintenance. One thing I always check is the ingredients and the nutrition panel when comparing different brands and flavors. With this particular food, I noticed that the ingredients on the list were fantastic with all of them free of nasty, harmful GMOs, and many of them being organic which is what I feed the human members of my family. Also worth mentioning, the ingredients are also human grade which is very reassuring so you know it's higher quality and doesn't contain questionable chemicals or ingredients like euthanized shelter animals (crude protein in many cheap-o brands of dog food, seriously. Look it up, it's a real and tragic thing folks). On to the nutrition; If you have a puppy or active dog, this is probably not the best formula, and this company has many to choose from. I would say it's best suited for the less active mature/senior dogs like mine. That said, since they have been eating this food, they've actually had more energy and want to play much more than they used to! The fat content in this particular food is very low in comparison to most other dog foods, the protein content is mostly from the beef and comes in at a moderate, but healthy percentage for omnivores (which I'm sure you know that dogs are omnis and not carnivores such as cats). Dogs absolutely need protein, however, too much protein can burden the liver. This formula also includes a nice panel of vitamins and minerals added in addition to the naturally occurring nutrients from the food's wholesome ingredients. Out of the bag, it's a super green powdery texture with small pieces of what appears to be fruit, oats and veggies. I have to say the first time I measured it out and examined it, I was concerned, especially when I added the hot water. However, once reconstituted and cooled, the product has a lovely thick texture and smell, which is easy for my dogs to eat and digest. For the preparation; Super easy! I just use a large Pyrex jug, fill it will purified water, microwave for a couple minutes then add in the correct amount of measured dry food from the package (which is a plastic resealable bag in a snug cardboard box). I let the food sit to fully absorb the liquid and to cool down, then feed to my anxiously waiting fur babies who are ready to gobble every last drop!! Tip; I personally like to add in some organic Turmeric into the hot water and create a lovely tea base full of antioxidants before adding in the dry mix to add more health promoting benefits. Using hot water creates a much better texture/reconstitution than if you were to add cold or cool water. The best part besides the fact my dogs love the taste and don't waste, feeding time is easy, much more controlled since I am using this to help my dogs achieve a healthier weight, and this seems to last a long time. And, since the box is smaller, it is easier to store than a large bag of dry kibble, or many, many cans of moist dog food. So far the improvements I have seen in all three dogs has been: more energy, weight control/management, better health as per vet checkup since the last. They overall seem to be happier and, as long as this product stays on Amazons subscribe and save program which makes it more cost effective, I'll continue to purchase because the quality I get from this is far better that's what seems to be out there, as for right now. Hope this helps! ... show more

  • Made my dog sick - can't tolerate it.
Flavor Name: Chicken Size: 2 lb
Got roped in with the good reviews as I was looking for alternatives to wet food. Introduced to my 11yo terrier mix very slowly. This was always planned as a supplement to mix in with his dry food. He wasn't liking the taste so like many others, I moistened with chicken and beef broth (low sodium). He did eat it but as last bite and didn't seem to enjoy it. I thought he would eventually adapt but not 2 weeks later he developed diarrhea. I wasn't sure this food might be the culprit so I removed it from his diet and he resolved the diarrhea within a day or 2. A few days later I started the slow re-introduction again, and by day 3 the diarrhea came back. I stopped feeding this altogether and he has been fine since. Clearly this was caused by the food (this was the ONLY new change in his feeding plan). The broths I had used to moisten he tolerates with no issues whatsoever. I bought both the beef and chicken variety and am now stuck with unusable food that I don't even feel comfortable donating. Many others have complained about their dogs getting sick as well. I regret trying this and would not recommend it. ... show more
