Description

THE GREEN, THE BLACK, AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA is the debut novel by writing partners Balestri & Celeste introducing Summer Kane, a 17-year-old lifeguard on Narragansett Beach, and Gabriel, a handsome young fisherman working on a fishing trawler out of Point Judith, Rhode Island, who guards a deep secret. Eight years ago, Summer Kane lost her only brother while sailing with her family in Narragansett Bay when a freak wave capsized their boat. Traumatized by the accident, she spent her childhood mostly alone, practicing the magic tricks her brother had taught her and swimming in the ocean near her house. Now a lifeguard, she meets Gabriel, who seems out of place with the rough, weathered fishermen of New England. Summer and Gabriel are instantly drawn to each other, but Summer’s father, a high-ranking government scientist, inexplicably forbids her from seeing him. Summer defies her father and sneaks off to find Gabriel. But instead she stumbles upon his shocking secret—and the terrible plan his people are on the verge of launching. In the race to stop the destruction, Summer learns something profound and unexpected about her family. And about herself. Read more

  • Fun action thriller based in a fantastical world!
Format: Kindle
Great book! I thought the character development, plot twists, and the fantastical tale were all well done and the book was effortless to read. I was lost in and enjoyed his created world/characters which is what we all want… to divert ourselves from the day to day. While he has his own distinctive style the book reminds me of Michael Crichton and Daniel Suarez. Thriller genres with scientific underpinnings! I hope he decides to write a sequel! ... show more

I enjoyed the fantasy aquatic world created by the author. The second half was a thrilling page-turner! Appreciated the positive message of being stewards of our environment for our children and future generations.

  • Delightful story telling
Format: Kindle
Fresh context for wholesome young adult reading. As the parent of teens who came of age with many choices in fantasy fiction, it's easy to think I've heard it all from wizards to vampires. But the heroine of this new sea adventure is novel, courageous and genuine. There's young love, danger, science-y drama, and true friendships. I recommend this work for readers from age 12 to adult and predict that they too will delight in this new fiction as I do! ... show more

Format: Paperback
Balestri and Celeste’s The Green, the Black, and the Deep Blue Sea is a captivating science-fiction thriller that grabs the reader’s attention immediately. The authors set up the story line perfectly to make sense of all of the exciting twists that occur throughout the novel. The short, exhilarating chapters made for a page-turning experience. I could not put the book down. If you’re a fan of the thriller-fiction writing of Dan Brown and science-fiction thriller style of Michael Crichton, then you will be drawn to The Green, the Black, and the Deep Blue Sea. ... show more

  • Not my kind of book
Format: Kindle
I read this on the recommendation of a friend. It did not appeal to me at all. Conversations were amateurish and the whole premise of an undersea world is too absurd.

Format: Kindle
Very descriptive settings of the Cape Cod region which is a good backdrop for these teens and all the inter-twinings they get into amongst themselves and also Summer's struggles with her father. I enjoy how the book doesn't hold back and lets you feel the characters' thought processes. Still reading. ... show more
