    • Great comedy from a legend
Buster Keaton is a legend in comedy, and these movies do NOT disappoint. The General is amazing considering the fact that Buster did his own stunts. Green-screen was not invented so what you see was actually filmed. Extremely funny in parts.

The DVD arrived on time and in good shape. The General was a marvel for the time. Buster Keaton was a mastermind, way ahead of his time!!

Bought this DVD because this film was on a list for ten best ever silent films, and it certainly is that. Of course, Mr. Keaton had a genius for comedy & was a remarkable athlete. I understand he was also fascinated with mechanical devices -- choreographing chase scenes between locomotives is quite a feat. Background scenes were quite beautiful -- filmed in the Pacific Northwest. Fantastic musical score featuring popular tunes from the Civil War era, as well as a Snidley Whiplash-type motif, which is great fun. Great attention to authenticity in the costumes, which I think is rather unusual for the time. Any silent film lover -- or film lover in general -- is guaranteed to love it. ... show more

Kino/Lorber/Lobster always do a great job with their digital restorations of silent films, and this package is no exception. I like that they provide not one, but TWO different film scores to go with this film. The previous version I had was accompanied only with random ragtime piano music. Music that fits the action adds SO much to the experience! It is too bad The General was an expensive flop at the box office, since it robbed Keaton of his artistic freedom, but it still ranks as his masterpiece. ... show more

An outstanding feature film by Buster Keaton! The train sequences are thrilling! This filmmaker cuts no corners as witnessed by the fate of the General. Really engaging silent film by a master comedian and filmmaker.

A gem of a movie that needs to be watched over and over again to appreciate the brilliance in it. Excellent digital processing to increase the quality of picture and sound. Bluray is a win every time compared to a DVD.
